Pros for each:
HINES: Hands, best blocking WR in the game, route running, possession receiver
SMITTY: Hands, speed, agility, route running, possession receiver
Really the only area that Smitty is better than Hines is at the "big play" ability, which is really speed + hands combined.
I view Hines as the better overall due to his blocking ability. It's fact that he is the best blocking receiver ever.
Thoughts?
And please, no dick riding.

Ward wishes he could have Smith's ability. Smitty has put a couple linemen on their asses a few times over, he is no push over in run blocking.

I did not say he was. But, ask anyone. Any analyst, any commentator, any fan. You'll get a universal answer that Hines is the best blocking receiver ever.
They actually are not 2 different types of player. They are actually very similar.
Also, Smitty has 25 career fumbles to Hines' 12.

that's what i was thinking...
smith blocks and at times hits just as hard or harder than harris, davis, and beason. i'm sure someone can dig up video of him taking linemen off their feet.
my vote is for smith...not for homerism, but because smith produces more jaw dropping highlight material and imo is a bigger gamebreaker than ward.

That's not a good argument. People say Chris Johnson is the fastest RB in the league, that doesn't mean DeAngelo is slow and nowhere near Johnson. Hines is not THAT far ahead of Smith when it comes to blocking. They're both great.
At the moment Smith is better IMO. Smith brings big play potential, and is one of the most dangerous players in the league with the ball in his hands. Hines Ward brings consistency, but just doesn't have the same play-making ability. Also: Hines has Holmes to take attention away from him. Smith has no one near the talent level of Holmes.
With that said, I think Smith is going to end up taking a Hines-style role when he starts losing his speed(a possession/blocking receiver.)

I'm not, in any way, saying Smitty is bad blocking. At all. But Ward is the elite here. Not many come close, but even those that do are still a bit off.
The main argument here for Smitty is that he has bigger upside for the big play. He undoubtedly does, but, that is not everything. I break it down to each individual skill. Some Ward has the edge on, some Smith. I just feel that when you package them all, the end result is Ward >
