starting to get interested here.... The Jaguars will continue the string of teams declining fifth-year options on off-ball linebackers. As the NFL’s option formula still groups all linebackers together, Devin Lloyd will become the latest ILB to see his not exercised. Lloyd is now in a contract year, ESPN.com’s Jeremy Fowler confirms. He would have been due a fully guaranteed $14.75MM had the Jaguars’ new regime signed off on his 2026 option. Lloyd is extension-eligible, so he could factor into the Jags’ long-term plans. No team has exercised a fifth-year option for an off-ball LB since the Buccaneers picked up Devin White‘s in 2022. That decision did not turn out well, as the All-Pro’s value cratered soon after. Over the past three offseasons, Patrick Queen, Kenneth Murray, Isaiah Simmons, Jordyn Brooks and Jamin Davis had seen their options declined. The Cardinals passed on Zaven Collins‘, despite moving him to the edge, and it should be expected the Packers will decline Quay Walker‘s ($14.75MM) by Thursday’s deadline. This wrinkle reminds of the guard market, as the price of franchise-tagging a player at that position is complicated due to all O-linemen being grouped together under this formula as well. Guards and ILBs have easier paths to free agency as a result, and Lloyd could end up as a key piece on next year’s market because of the Jags’ Wednesday decision. The Jags did pick up Travon Walker‘s fifth-year option, but the former No. 1 overall pick serves as an edge player. Lloyd has been a locked-in starter since his rookie year, but Trent Baalke‘s second pick since the Urban Meyer firing moved him to the top of the franchise’s personnel pyramid could use a quality contract year to display his value to both the Jags and other teams. Jacksonville traded up from No. 33 (via Tampa Bay) to acquire Lloyd at No. 27 overall. He has been a consistent producer despite the Jaguars continuing to change defensive coordinators. Lloyd, 26, has missed just three career games. He has made at least 113 tackles in each of his three seasons, working as a regular under Mike Caldwell and Ryan Nielsen. After making just two tackles for loss during his first two seasons combined, Lloyd — a former 27 overall pick out of Utah — made seven last season. The Jags hired Anthony Campanile to run their defense this year. Lloyd will undoubtedly be a key piece. Pro Football Focus has graded Lloyd as a top-15 linebacker in each of the past two seasons. https://www.profootballrumors.com/2025/04/jaguars-to-decline-lb-devin-lloyds-fifth-year-option all that said, I don't believe Dan and Dave will do this. I think they are content on building with what we have, and letting young guys like Trevin grow. kinda crazy to not trade an udfa for a 1st rounder who has performed.

I mean he's getting better and learning the MLB spot, right? Plus given the jags are out of the playoff picture, he rarly played the last game. I added 10 tackles.........(call the NFL cops!!!!) 2 sacks last year and 2 in my projections..... He had 8 and 7 PDs, I added 2 for 10. So I bumped some numbers a couple % and you feel that's crazy/insane thinking?? You know how bad posting a 0 is on the laws, besides we are using a rookie yr as well. How about we both agree on his 17 average listed and Ill let the 0s break the averages? That average line would 100% beat whatever coker is able to fight and claw for in the deeeeeeeep WR room. You know thats right. What are your projections for Coker or lloyd in Panthers Uniforms, lets compare them!!
-
No thanks. Chances all of our WRs make it through the season healthy is slim. Thielen is one year older missed some time last year. Renfrow literally didn't think he was going to play football again. One injury and what was looked at as a "strength" of this team no longer is if we deal away assets. Off ball LB is the RB of the defense. That position just doesnt offer as much value anymore
-
Coker just had terrible luck. He came out in a deep WR rookie class and had injuries that killed his stock. If he had a healthy year and came out in 2025- I am fairly sure he'd been a solid 3rd and no later than mid 4th. Jags drafted two LB this past draft and have Muma former 3rd on the roster and Miller former 4th both are still in their rookies deals. They did not exercise his 5th, that's normally a sign that you are not part of their future plans. I knew going against cokeheads would be hard.....
-
I would be interested in Lloyd but I don't think we have to part with Coker and I do not want to either way given our depth in the past and also our struggles with getting real talented receivers with promise. Regardless. We couldn't resolve everything in a single offseason and I don't think we are in a "one move away" mindset. And we shouldn't be anyways as it has only bitten us in the ass time and time again in the past. I'm fine just letting things play out naturally as this is a development year anyways.

Already looked at them, dont see him putting up the stats you listed in our D. I mean he has 2 sacks over a 3 year career, and you have him coming in and getting 3 in a new system. Never defended 10 passes, never had that many tackles, etc. Coker is worth more than he is imo, if Llyod was a undrafted rookie with years remaining on his contract I would sat yes. However he is a former first round pick that didnt get his 5th year option picked up. Coker had like 20 less yards than XL had last season on about half the targets. Dont underestimate him.
-
Those numbers are very close to his averages and he didn't play a 17th game. Here look at them for yourself and stay away from my arse...

I mean, I like the Renfrow story and all that, but he does have a history of an incurable, yet chronic autoimmune disease. Ulcerative Colitis goes into remission and can be managed with meds and lifestyle changes, but it can also flare up also. That being said, I'm still not necessarily against trading Coker for Lloyd. Not necessarily for it either. I think people must remember that Coker is still young, and probably can't anchor a WR room as good as some of you thinks that he is. He was undrafted for a reason. That being said, he's better than many suspected, and made a solid accounting of himself his rookie season. Basically, we just can't pinpoint his ceiling, but can comfortably say that he has a decent floor. It just depends upon calculating who you believe would have the most impact short and possibly long term. I think that there are still more question marks surrounding Coker.

Yep 2025. All teams have projections, join the era!! Well answer this simple question my friend- How many SNAPS&TARGETS will Jalen Coker get with Chubba, Dowdle, Etienne, JT, Tremble, Evans, AT, XL. Tmac, Hunter, Moore, and Horn in 2025?? You can add recs, and TDs if you like. compare it to Lloyd- 135 tackles, 3 sacks, 10 PD, 2 INTs, 6 TFL, 900 snaps Use your thinking skills and ponder which would help the Panthers more?
-
Im rolling with Coker, imo he should be our number 3 now or in the near future. If all three of these rookie WRs work out our offense could be deadly. I just dont see Llyod coming here and having career best stats in a lot of categories just because you pulled imaginary stats out of your ass. And he will need a new contract. Its basically giving away Coker for a one year rental.

Just what I read somewhere on Reddit, but I could be remembering wrong. Agree with it showing on the field being the most important. Just a strange situation. I guess he had to have choked, but that's not a good characteristic haha.
-
in 2025 or we thinking about the future? ANd making up stats to try to win some debate is pretty elementary
-
Stats for the upcoming season- Panthers with each player Lloyd- 135 tackles, 3 sacks, 10 PD, 2 INTs, 6 TFL, 900 snaps Coker- 27 recs, 345 yards, 0 TDs, 173 snaps Which has more value towards Panthers winning games??

For those thinking Renfrow isn't making the team...Ha!

It would be a great story and a good bet, but brother that is one long shot. So many things, good and bad, have to happen for that scenario to go down -

At +21000 it's not like I think he's actually going to win. But if he some how goes nuts and has 100 catches he has a much better story than McCaffrey who blew out his butthole for the 3rd time or whatever injury he had last -

Im trying to convince the huddle to trade Coker for Lloyd....... - Today
-
I think Hunter said it recently at his presser.
-
Devin Lloyd is the guy to continue the MLB lore for the Panthers, he's young as well. He's 10x better than some cut. Both Teams fill a weak spot with a starting level young prospect.
-
God bless if you believe that
-
Nobody "needs" targets, its called competition and the cream rises. Also we arent winning poo this year so lets keep building our team and developing our homegrown players instead of doing the quick fix method which has done us so well for the past 7 years
-
Oh, you can take things away from them, you just shouldn't take things and run away with them.
-
He told teams and GMs the only team he wanted to play for was the Panthers, he's the guy.
-
MLB Devin Lloyd for WR Jalen Coker??
Dingo_ate_Babies replied to Basbear's topic in Carolina Panthers
Giving up a young promising player in his 2nd year on a cheap contract for a guy on an expiring contract whose current team doesn’t seem to want long term is dumb idea. We could honestly give up a lot less for him if you want him so badly. -
No. Stop trying to bandaid together the best bad roster we can manage. Coker has shown good potential. We can find a serviceable LB or two on the waiver wire as other teams make cuts.
