I seen an African American woman on social media say " ya'll need to leave my Pookie alone" about Bryce. I thought that was pretty funny.

Was literally about to say exactly this. I have absolutely no problem with this if we actually bring in legit competition (either by FA or draft).

Might have more to do with three touchdowns. Gimme 3 TDs and 84 yds passing and I'm going to be okay with that. Give me 1 TD, 422 yards passing and 3 INTs... well, nah. The number of yards matters much less than where those yards were on the field.

If we assume Evero and his scheme remain in place, he'd technically be either a nose guard or a 3-4 style defensive end. Not necessarily a pass rusher, but a guy with the potential to play alongside Derrick Brown and make our defensive line a stone wall. I can get on board with this, but I'd hope we also make other offseason moves to improve our pass rush.

Lol some of you kill me. He hasn’t even played two full seasons, he’s already trusted enough to call the plays, is only 22 years old, is leading an incredibly improved defense, and some of you act like he’s garbage. We are getting great production from him and he was a 3rd round pick. Where is the understanding that players get better with time and experience? He’s doing great, especially when our first round pick is getting one catch a game.

Right now, all that means is that an option is likely to be exercised. We were keeping him for year four no matter what and we will probably keep him around for year five. Both of those years would be at what could be considered reasonable fees for a QB. What kind of QB? Where on the depth chart? Doesn't say a thing. Not one damned thing about it. And that's because we don't know what we have yet from Bryce, still. But let's be honest about a few things since Canales came along. We are actually showing the kind of progress you want from a head coach. He inherited a run down, poorly assembled team that was more used to being doormats and losers than anything else. And he elevated the squad with limited resources last year, even at one point benching the starting #1 pick QB for poor performance and keeping him from starting until another injury forced his hand. And somehow, with a historically bad defense, we managed to win some games that we had no right doing and playing a couple of other championship level teams to a near deadlock. And we moved into this season with Bryce back under center and we've had some serious ups and downs for the third year QB. And the rest of the team. We're getting better but we are far from a finished product, especially at QB. But we are sitting here with a winning record and two wins against teams where the betting line had us at 10 point underdogs. We actually have a shot at the playoffs. Last year, that would have been completely unbelievable. So, here we are looking at giving Bryce that coveted 5th year option and the money and commitment that comes with it. What does that do? Well, it gives Canales and Bryce another season to fix what is broken and to grow, which he is (in fits and starts). Can Canales coax that record setting Bryce out a bit more? He did against LA last week. Maybe there's more growing to happen there. And well, as much as we might kick the walls at that thought, it would be good for everything to finally pay out on that gamble we made. But what it doesn't do... It doesn't lock us into not drafting a QB again, possibly one on Day 2 or 3 of the draft to keep Bryce's seat warm and to groom for the future. It also doesn't prevent us from snagging a FA QB out there if the right one comes along that Canales feels more confident. And if another team with a desperate need at QB or a good team in need of a quality back up comes sniffing around, there are two years on a decent contract available for trade. There's no lose in exercising the option. There are some opportunities.

0 issue picking up the 5th year. It’s critical that we do, in case he continues to build and get better each season. It would be insane to talk extension this offseason though. Pick up the 5th year option, and if he shows consistency, do an extension after year 4. It’s as easy as that, this is not an issue of having to pay a lot more if we make a mistake, it’s all risk no reward to even think of an extension after this season based on the constancy shown through three seasons.

I've been iffy on Canales till now but this season has put me in his corner. He certainly still has areas that need improvement, but I do believe he can be "the guy". Admittedly, what I had hoped for was a chance to see Canales with a different quarterback. That particular scenario now looks to be, at the very least, a few seasons away. Gotta say also that we'd be remiss to have an offseason discussion and not reference Dan Morgan and the front office. What I see from there (especially since the addition of Brandt Tilis) is starting to look pretty positive. Here's hoping...

He is certainly durable for his size I'll give him that. Whether or not he'll actually carve out a Doug Flutie kind of career remains to be seen. He has the benefit of playing in an era of the league that many former QB's would envy let's be honest. I think it really comes down to his desire to continue to overcome adversity and work on his craft. Whatever happens to conclude this season he will certainly be here next year and my hope is that he enters the upcoming offseason highly motivated to build on any progress he's made. The last thing we need is a repeat of the last 3 offseasons.

Well we can certainly attest that regardless of Bryce and Canales highs and lows the roster as a whole does have enough talent for us to compete for the division and the playoffs. And the plus side is this is a very young team. In all honesty yes the Panthers offseasons the last couple of years have been a little too much good vibes only and sunshine and rainbows. Canales has the potential to be the Panthers head coach for the next several years. We are seeing the makings of what appears to be a culture shift but unfortunately we're walking a razor thin line between that and full on catastrophe until we can string together consistent convincing wins. I sincerely hope to see it to finish the season.

Honestly if Bryce wasn’t so bad for 2-3 quarters every game this would be a no brainer. Listening to post game commentary from players (Chuba and Ickey) they both said that Bryce was the key factor in the comeback and they all trusted and looked to him at the end of games to make a play. Kind of reminds me of another quarterback who was stuck behind Aaron Brooks in NO until we picked him up that always stepped up when the game mattered to make a play. 5-1 in one score games. The lone loss was the only game where Bryce didn’t make plays down the stretch to win it (and it was ugly). Whether you like it or not if we are within one score in the fourth then we have a chance with Bryce under center.

I think there's positions that are too valuable to a team's makeup that we have a need for and I think should weigh heavily into the pick over pure-BPA. 1. ILB (Huge need) 2. OT (Moton will not last this build, we need his heir and if we're keeping Bryce, this line needs to be the engine) 3. EDGE (Guys are showing promise but if a stud is there, go for him)

No, that's cherry picking. And it's really just a different spin on the "winning in spite of him" argument. Bottom Line: You cannot logically support the notion that everybody gets credit for wins except Bryce. Now mind you, even with acknowledging all these things, it remains possible to suggest that we should move on from Bryce (I still am) but basing the argument on this kind of thinking or hyperbole like "worst quarterback in the league" is weak.

Hahaha. I think they do want him to be successful but it's more like the Steph Curry effect. They want normal humans to think they can actually be NFL players.

You're right. I remember 2 years ago a bunch of Cowboys fans were complaining about Dak. Same with Ravens fans and Lamar. Like they legit wanted to replace them. I just sat there like... huh?!
