Very good. But he's been bad most of this year. You think they're going to make a huge decision that involves nine figures because two games? The team and FO know most of the wins have been in spite of him, not because of him. I don't know why you won't just admit you think he's the guy, it's not an insane position, it's just not popular on this board. You keep saying what you think the team thinks, what do you think? Where would you rank him among NFL QBs? Would you extend his contact?

You literally did compare him to Mayfield. One is a top 10 QB, one is a bottom 10 QB. NFL teams replace crappy QBs all the time.

That's a legitimate question. I think two things here. One, I think there is a recognition it was a mistake to roll with Dalton as the only other QB. At a total minimum I am certain Dalton will be cut and a real backup brought in. Could be a vet Mariota or Winston or could be younger upside guy like Howell or Lance. But I'd bet anything that will happen. Two, the better we are the more obvious it is that we could be legit if we had a good QB. When we sucked it was easy to give Bryce a pass and let him grow as a passer. Times have changed. We could make a playoff run with just decent QB play. We will either sign Jones or throw darts to see what we get. Last, Tepper may like Bryce and want to protect his ego for drafting him, but you don't make a billion without being cold blooded when necessary. Canales and Morgan aren't dumb. They will tell Tepper at a minimum we need real competition, and he will pitch Bryce to the side if he thinks it means a shot at getting to the SB. Too many people here (not you) think that because Bryce has been protected that will go on forever. It won't.

I think you're going to be surprised by what happens this offseason then. yeah, maybe they pick up the 5th year option. But there is no way they're going to roll into 26 with only Bryce as a legitimate QB. And if he loses the job in camp or preseason, he loses it. The comparison to Mayfield is a huge stretch. Mayfield is a good QB, Bryce is not.

They are not going to poo on him in pressers during the season, but they are not stupid and they see just how much he is holding this team back.

Why do you think Bryce would beat out whoever we bring in? If you ranked the NFL QBs, where would you put him?

The crazy thing is, I agree that there is a perception that he's on a hot streak, but he actually isn't. He's had two good games out of the last six, with the rest being various levels of mid-to-poo. It's just that our expectations have gotten so beat down over the last 3 years, him looking competent feels like he's playing awesome. Dude is graded on the ultimate curve.

He starts not just games but whole seasons ice cold. Then he finishes lukewarm. Sometimes.

And the idea of regretting letting him go because he turns into Mayfield or Darnold is ridiculous. Bryce has had like five good games here. Who gaf if he has five good games over the next three years?

I can't believe how short some memories are. Guy shits bed for weeks and then has a good game and he's the man. You can't trust a guy who's good 30 percent of the time at any position and definitely not qb

Well yeah Tepper is probably not spending much time here (because he can't log back in) but I do think he's sensitive to opinions. But anyway, I'm assuming you think we should pick up the option.

I hate conspiracy thinking, but I have a hard time rejecting this idea. It's either that or Canales is the stupidest coach the NFL has seen in a long time, and while I don't know if he's a good coach, I don't think he's that stupid. Of course, like somebody else suggested he might have gone along with it for the opposite reason, to prove that Bryce can't do it so Canales can have a fair shot next year without him. Either way, it's pretty clear that Tepper is going to have to have the idea that Bryce sucks pounded in his head a hundred times.
