Darnold performed well in 2022 when he was supported by a run-first offense and wasn't asked to win games by himself. He could be a very good QB on a team like Minnesota that will put a lot of talent around him. But if Kevin O'Connell is going to try to throw the ball 70% of the game, Darnold is going to look like he always has.

It’s the same thing I kept saying all offseason last year. When I watched Bryce and specifically his game against Texas in 2022, I saw a QB who could not handle pressure. There are many reasons for this but the biggest factor is his height. He cannot see over his lineman if he steps up in the pocket to evade pressure. This was evident during his entire rookie season. We routinely saw Young scrambling out of the pocket when facing pressure or just getting sacked frequently. Albeit, the guard play was atrocious so that was a big factor. But I would like to see how he performs if that improves. Regardless, due to his stature he requires deep drops to scan the whole field. He needs excellent guard play, and receivers who run crisp routes and create yards after the catch to be successful. He honestly needs the Saints offense of the late 2000s and early 2010s. He needs a coach who can scheme around his physical limitations and yes, lack of arm strength. Young was not a #1 overall talent and I saw it in college. I have no idea how this got missed so thoroughly by the NFL at large because I’m just some dipshit loser who has never worked in football in any professional capacity.

What would go in a package for Burns/Higgins swap?
hepcat replied to RumHam's topic in Carolina Panthers
Just goes to show how badly the Panthers have been managed. DJ Moore was an above average WR on a reasonable contract and they traded him away before drafting a rookie QB. I have no doubt that Bryce Young would have had a better season with a WR of Moore’s talent level on the team. -

BURNS FOR HIGGINS AND A 1ST MAKE IT HAPPEN DAN MORGAN -
No brainer re-signing Hill with Jackson out the door. Probably had Hill all lined up before Jackson's release. Can see a low level vet signing for the other corner spot.

Ryan Leaf says Caleb Williams needs work, should sit for a year
hepcat replied to HardcoreHokie's topic in Carolina Panthers
It’s amazing that Cam Newton, a former NFL MVP who played in a Super Bowl, catches more flack for his comments on NFL QB’s than Ryan Leaf, one of the biggest and most memorable busts in NFL history. -
Are we low-key tanking? Donnelly thinks we're half-tanking.

Would keeping Burns require another big D-line addition?
hepcat replied to Donald LaFell's topic in Carolina Panthers
Burns walks next year probably. They're renting him hoping someone trades for him. His value tanked last season. -
Nicole Tepper on the proudest moment since owning the team….

Came here to say the same thing. Garbage team gonna make bad decisions time after time -
There is actually a chance the panthers sign him because of the canales and Morgan connection which is wild. I don’t hate it in case young turns out to be the bust

Patriots move up to #1 to get Caleb Williams and sign Mike Evans ooo wee mayne

Texas got a couple transfers, one from Alabama. Isaiah Bond who was decent last year. If he stays healthy I think Ewers shows out and has a Heisman caliber season next year. Injuries are going to be a big factor for him.

The job doesn’t seem difficult to me. The problem is these roles require a large amount of boot licking and good ol boy networking to get. If you didn’t play football or weren’t football adjacent you will not be considered. They only allow guys like that to work with the monies.

There would be worse decisions than trading for a WR of his caliber.
