not sure if any of this is news, but a good summary of our situation heading into training camp. It's sure gonna be good getting Derrick back. After missing virtually all of the 2024 season, Panthers defensive tackle Derrick Brown is aiming for a full return to the field during training camp later this summer, per Joseph Person of The Athletic. Brown tore his meniscus in Week 1 and underwent season-ending surgery that has kept him limited through spring practices, though he did participate in “walk-throughs and light side work” during mandatory minicamp, according to Person. Brown originally stated a desire to be ready for the 2025 regular season, but his timeline appears to have moved up. Brown’s injury was particularly disappointing after a career-best 2023 season. He led all defensive linemen with 103 total tackles and was named to his first Pro Bowl, earning him a four-year, $96MM extension from the Panthers in April 2024. While he has never been a prolific pass rusher, Brown’s size and power has consistently commanded double-teams and created opportunities for his teammates. His impact was evident last season, as Carolina’s run defense ranked dead-last in his absence. The Panthers spent significant resources this offseason on defensive line depth, which should allow them to manage Brown’s usage more carefully coming off a major injury. He played a whopping 940 defensive snaps in 2023 (89% of the team’s total) and was on the field for almost every play before his injury last year. With new teammates Tershawn Wharton, Bobby Brown III, and Cam Jackson ready to share the load, Derrick Brown can take a lower snap share to stay fresh and healthy for the entire season. Here are a few updates on other Panthers returning from injuries: https://www.profootballrumors.com/2025/06/panthers-injury-updates-brown-tremble-barno-wallace

Bryce among the 7 players Mark Ross of NFL.com guarantees will get better this season. Today, I am identifying seven players who I guarantee will improve on their 2024 output in the 2025 season. Young took tremendous strides in 2024 after returning to the starting lineup in Week 8 following his benching. He looked far more comfortable in his return and produced with consistency, as he threw for 2,104 yards with 15 TDs and six INTs in the final 10 contests. Most important perhaps is Young's confidence grew immensely down the stretch, leading Carolina to either a game-tying or game-winning drive in six of those games. Now he enters his second season in Dave Canales' system with his best supporting cast to date. The Panthers drafted wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan eighth overall to pair with Adam Thielen and Xavier Legette, who I also believe is poised for a breakout campaign this fall. The 18th-ranked rushing attack from a year ago added Rico Dowdle to complement Chuba Hubbard, giving the team a pair of 1,000-yard rushers. The Panthers have taken the necessary steps to ensure Young's third season will be the best of his career, and now it's up to him to not only continue to grow as a player but prove why he was worthy of being taken No. 1 overall in 2023. I believe that's what he will do. https://www.nfl.com/news/which-nfl-players-will-improve-in-2025-c-j-stroud-deebo-samuel-among-guaranteed-risers

Joe Person @josephperson · 2h Andy Dalton with a nice across his body throw on a scramble play to Hunter Renfrow, who got behind the secondary. Mike Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 2h Third-string OT Brandon Walton and OLB Thomas Incoom both got physical after a Dalton toss to Etienne for a TD in 11 on 11. Incoom made contact with Walton’s facemask. Chippy #Panthers minicamp. Mike Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 2h Princely Umanmielen with a “sack” on Jack Plummer. He’s having a nice minicamp. #Panthers Mike Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 2h Ethan Garbers, after a fumbled snap and a sack, hurls a nice ball to Dan Chisena for a 20 yard gain. He then gets tripped on a roll out. This third-string unit isn’t having the most fun week. Joe Person @josephperson · 2h Derrick Brown said the goal is to be ready for the start of training camp. “I hope so.” Mike Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 2h Derrick Brown (knee) hopes to be back in drills by training camp with “load management.” #Panthers Mike Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 2h Instead of a JUGS machine, Chuba Hubbard is getting thrown to by Jack Plummer while he runs routes after practice. Nice to change things up. #Panthers Alex Zietlow @alexzietlow05 · 1h #Panthers head coach Dave Canales said a version of this during rookie minicamp, and then was equally effusive today: This rookie class is “one of the best groups I’ve been around.” He explains what has impressed him after minicamp concluded. Joe Person @josephperson · 1h That’s a wrap on minicamp. Panthers appeared to avoid any serious injuries. Defense had the upper hand today after offense had a big day Wednesday. See everybody in late July. Alex Zietlow @alexzietlow05 · 1h #Panthers rookie running back Trevor Etienne was asked what he’s learned up until this point in the offseason program. His first response, with a smile: “I learned I didn’t know as much about football as I thought I did.” just read there were multiple scuffles today

Mike Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 2h Christian Rozeboom broke up a pass over the middle by Bryce Young in 11 on 11. UDFA DB Isaac Gifford nearly came up with the pick. #Panthers Alex Zietlow @alexzietlow05 · 2h 11s work: #Panthers QB Bryce Young fires a pass over the middle that’s deflected by LB Christian Rozeboom. The ball flies in the air and then slips through S Isaac Gifford’s hands for a near-INT. Young follows that up with a slant to Adam Thielen that goes for a big gain. Alex Zietlow @alexzietlow05 · 2h Mike Jackson then picks off Young. Mike Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 2h James Mitchell with a catch off a Bryce throw in the seam. Then Mike Jackson picks off BY9 in the flat on a target to RB Rico Dowdle. Mike read it the whole way. #Panthers Joe Person @josephperson · 2h Mike Jackson picks off Bryce Young in the EZ. Jackson ran all the way to the other end zone. He would not have been able to do that had it been a real game. Still, nice play.

interesting Mike Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 3h We’ve only been to five open workouts but it sure seems like the #Panthers prefer Brady Christensen as an OT as opposed to an IOL at least based on the small sample size.
-
Mike Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 3h Tetairoa McMillan and Nick Scott here but not practicing, Jimmy Horn in uniform but working on adjacent field with trainer, JJ Jansen and Matthew Wright are approved absences. #Panthers Joe Person @josephperson · 3h Tetairoa McMillan gets another day. We will see him again in five weeks.

Gettleman. We were so desperate for CBs he drafted 3 that year, and missed so badly on the 5th rounder who didn't even make the team. A fifth rounder!

SiriusXM NFL Radio @SiriusXMNFL . @Panthers WR Adam Thielen says QB Bryce Young is a major reason why he chose to come back to Carolina this season.

Mike Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 14m #Panthers OLB Princely Umanmielen on what he’s trying to get out of this week and his connection to the other former Gators rookies on the roster. He says Chuba Hubbard is always an “enemy” to the defense practice. He was at least half-joking.

Alex Zietlow @alexzietlow05 · 9m Dave Canales explains what has stuck out about Bobby Brown III during these initial open workouts. Says he’s gained 7-8 pounds of lean muscle and that he’s impressed by the #Panthers’ free agent acquisition.
-
Joe Person @josephperson · 5m T-Mac kicked in the leg yesterday. Dave Canales hopes to have him back Thursday.

Joe Person @josephperson · 2m Bryce Young carving up the defense in goal line drills today. David Moore the latest to catch a touchdown. Mike Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 26m Tre’von Moehrig picks off a short toss by Bryce Young over the middle in 11 on 11. #Panthers Joe Person @josephperson · 26m Tre’von Moehrig intercepts Bryce Young early in team. Jaycee Horn reacts loudly. Alex Zietlow @alexzietlow05 · 26m Tre’von Moehrig picks off Bryce Young. Reads a middle WR screen to Hunter Renfrow perfectly, gets a great jump on it, plucks it out of the air and takes it to “the house,” if there was an opposite end zone in this 11s work. Mike Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 22m Jack Plummer with a nice throw to the sideline to Kobe Hudson who beats DB Jack Henderson on a crosser out of the slot in 11 on 11. #Panthers Mike Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 19m Chippy! Jacolby George catches a pass, Lathan Ransom knocks it loose and recovers the ball. Defense and offense have a few guys get into each others faces. #Panthers Mike Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 14m Jalen Coker looks fast today. Short tissue injury seems mostly resolved. He and Legette had a pair of nice catch and run plays in 7 on 7. #Panthers Mike Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 14m Have yourself a day, Kobe Hudson. Two nice catches in 11s and he just made a nice mid-range catch in 7s off a Dalton throw. #Panthers Joe Person @josephperson · 7m Matthew Wright was 3-5 on field goals. Missed wide left from 47. Wide right and maybe a touch short from 52.

Alex Zietlow @alexzietlow05 · 31m Here’s Tetairoa McMillan walking onto the field. No limp or anything as far as I can discern.

Darin Gantt @daringantt · 59m Josh Norman here, and caught up with Jaycee Horn during stretch. Horn looks like he’s getting a vet day/load management break.

ThePanthersWire @ThePanthersWire · 1m Panthers' Bryce Young, Jaycee Horn get into jawing match at Tuesday's mandatory minicamp It's kinda starting to feel like 2015 over in Charlotte, N.C. On Tuesday, the Carolina Panthers took the practice field for the first of three mandatory minicamp sessions. The outing featured some lively 7-on-7 action, including a jawing match between starting quarterback Bryce Young and Pro Bowl cornerback Jaycee Horn. That energy may remind Panthers fans of the infamous Cam Newton-Josh Norman fight at training camp 10 years ago. The two got physical after Norman picked off and stiff-armed Newton in the face, prompting quite a scuffle and—in what's become franchise lore—the team's run to Super Bowl 50. Horn also spoke about Young's chatter following practice. "He talkin' trash every day," Horn said with a smile. "It's getting fun." https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/panthers/2025/06/10/panthers-mandatory-minicamp-bryce-young-jaycee-horn/84134382007/?taid=68487d6a1753370001725c2f&utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=trueanthem&utm_source=twitter

Mike Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 20m #Panthers OLB Amare Barno had a procedure to clean out his knee, per Canales. It was a similar situation to Tremble where the medical staff introduced an opportunity to help him. Unrelated but previously noted by @theobserver : Canales praises JT Sanders for coming back this offseason in great shape.
