The Case for(or Against) Drafting/Signing a TE
SmokinwithWilly replied to kungfoodude's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't know how you can say he did a good job fixing issues. He doesn't even recognize issues in game. Situational awareness is one of the things he lacks. He's probably one of the least flexible coaches I've seen. We do the same thing over and over. Defending DC offense is pretty easy. Stack the box and make Bryce beat you. Either he will or he won't. -
The Case for(or Against) Drafting/Signing a TE

I'm honestly looking beyond DC at this point. He's too green and is making too many simple mistakes. I think he's gone after next year. I think the intention in LV was to use Mayer and Bowers similar to Gronk/Hernandez in NE. That's never really struck me as Carroll's MO though after watching him for years out here in Seattle. He's talented enough and I think he just got lost behind the phenom that is Bowers because he couldn't develop in Carroll's system. I'm surprised Bowers is used as much as he is, though they really don't have anyone else. TE's don't really exist as focus receivers in Carroll's offense. I live in the PNW so I've been subjected to a lot of Seahawks football. Coaches other utilize their TEs. We should too. Tremble is OK, but he's always been a project as a receiver. Again, all this is of we could get him at the right price. I wouldn't pay a lot because we need to spend on defense. -

If possible we should look at Mayer out of Vegas. He's disappeared behind Bowers. I wouldn't spend a lot but it was rumored he was on the block earlier this year. -
Unfortunately under Tepper we've been exactly that. This is year 8 of whatever the fug this is. Maybe it gets better. Maybe it gets worse. It's hard to even remember what mediocrity felt like anymore.

The Hall of Fame case for two different NFC South quarterbacks
SmokinwithWilly replied to Verge's topic in Carolina Panthers
In order to get in, Cam has to actually retire. I don't believe he's done that yet and has no intentions of doing so any time soon waiting for an opportunity for a comeback. -
It's a concession he made to get the Tepper retirement package. 1 year minimum with Bryce to never have to work again. Sign me up too.

Pretty sure Moton wasn't healthy when we gave him that big fat extension. He had knee issues that he dismissed and said he was okay. Linemen with knee issues is never a good sign. For 44m I'd say I was ok too.

Think he would beat out XL for a spot on Sunday?

Oh Im just predicting the narratives after the games are over.

Week 16 rookie QB making his 1st start. I'd expect him to be. However, if he performs as well as or better than Bryce, then it's DC's gameplay to minimize throwing opportunities, etc etc
-
But he has severe issues with getting prepped from reports Ive heard. He relies more on athletic ability than actually watching and studying film. He's not prepared well on game days, so it's been said, and a lot of times it looks that way.

If you can only fire ONE person before 2026....

Or for being a controlling narcissistic asshat. -
I went back and looked at the opening day roster of QBs. The only ones that I would have expected to be considered starter for the entire year that have been worse than Bryce are McCarthey, Ward, Fields, Penix, Tua, and Kyler. McCarthey was basically a rookie, Ward is a rookie, Penix had only started 3 games in his NFL career. Fields, Tua and Murrey were the only 3 with as much experience as Bryce. Maybe some would argue TLaw but I think he's had a better overall season still. Of the slated temporary starters, Wilson, Rattler, Flacco, D. Jones, Jones obviously took the job and ran with it, while the other 3 got replaced for their rookie draft picks. When it comes down to it, there really hasn't been many QBs Bryce has outperformed that were slated to be year long starters with the same level of experience.

There's a reason DC wasn't getting calls to be a HC. He wasn't ready. His indecisiveness is infuriating. His lack of awareness is mystifying. He jumped at the chance to grab the David Tepper retirement plan and who can really blame him. Maybe with time he can grow into the job. But we're on year 8 of our 7 year rebuild. I think I'm gonna need a hip replacement before we get a decent HC. -

Well, you're defending the pick as being ok because they knew he was never going to be elite, he was just going to be whatever this is, or at least that's how I read it. And the 2 responsible, Tepper and Fittershits. Didn't mention Morgan because it's hard to say exactly how much he was involved in picking him, but if you've seen anything ive posted regarding his GM'ing, this draft looking positive is about the only good thing you'll find me saying. I think the way he's built this team is a hand grenade waiting to pull the pin. It's not sustainable, it never was, last year's draft was a draft was hot garbage and we would have done better letting a chicken pecking at random balls make our selection. I'm no Morgan fan and think the only reason he has the job is he's the only one who would actually take it.

Oh we knew what Bryce was. Super elite processing, low ceiling, high floor. Red flags were all over him at Alabama but we chose to ignore them. You don't trade the farm to draft an undersized unicorn at the QB position. You trade that much for the guy that can be the next Manning, Burrow, Lamar, Mahomes, Allen. We didn't just cripple to the team by giving up picks and DJ to draft him, we've also had to spend almost 75% of our assets to surround him for at best, a mediocre production. Bring that back to even between offense and defense and how do you think we end up? And we need to throw in a 40-50m AAV contract for Bryce too. But we're going to credit Tepper and Fitterer with being geniuses for bringing us Bryce. The guy with the worst record as an owner over the last 8 years and the guy that got fired the same year he drafted Bryce. And I thought I smoked some good poo.

If he was 5'9 and 180 lbs he wouldn't be a NFL tight end because he isn't capable of playing the position to its maximum potential due to physical limitations. Catching a pass is irrelevant because he is physically incapable of performing half of the position requirements.

Our offense could not score against ome of the worst teams in the NFL. They couldn't reach the average score league wide for offenses with 2 full weeks of preparation. Defense held them to 20. Better than league average. Sorry, but the offense has to be better. To win this game, our defense had to be better than the number 1 ranked scoring defense in the NFL against a rookie making his 8th start because our offense cannot score the league average. And we're supposed to be playoff contenders. Please.

I get that. He's also trying to do HC and OC this year which I think is just too much for him. I think it's hard to call plays from the sidelines. That view from up top helps them see what a defense is doing better. A few HCs can do it because they have the QBs and experience to pull it off. DC has neither. I think DC may have spread himself too thin and Bryce isn't the QB to be able to pull of his end of it either. How much they compliment each other in creating this offensive bleh, yet to be determined. Doesn't really matter because it's still awful.

Offenses this year are averaging around 22 per game. We scored 17. Defenses are averaging around 20. Exactly what we gave up. We didn't score enough points. Low scoring games with passing offense under 200 yards seems to be one thing we do fairly consistently. How much of that is DC or Bryce, who can really say. But it's way too common a thing to make me think it's just one or the other.
