I get what you're saying and agree, going into next season with BY and DD is a disaster. But the bigger disaster would be in the FO. All I'm looking at is could he potentially improve the team. Potentially, yes. How big would that improvement be? Hard to say. We've seen it happen a few times in recent years with Stafford, Goff, Geno, Darnold, Baker so while improbable, it's not impossible. If he doesn't do anything of note, cut him, no harm done. But if we go into next season without addressing the elephant in the room and don't try to seriously improve the QB position, none of it matters. Like I said earlier, my biggest concern is the FO being content to go into next season with Bryce and Dalton, even if things continue as they have been. We can't be satisfied with what we're seeing from either of these guys. All that said, I don't think Jones is coming here on Dalton's salary.

Dalton is too close to starting right now. If it hadn't been for a car accident, he still would be. Switching Dalton for Jones does nothing except reduce the backup's age by a decade. One is in his NFL prime, the other is almost in his NFL grave. Not a horrible move if you're trying to improve the team. We've got to get better as a team and a lateral move like that would improve the team. The problem isn't that he's close to starting. The problem is we have a GM that signed off on BY and didn't bring in any serious QB competition for camp, a HC that said yeah, he's my guy until BY poo the bed so bad he couldn't start him, and an offense that's limited because BY can't make all the throws a normal NFL QB can. The problem isn't that Jones could be an improvement as a backup QB. The problem is he could be better than our "franchise" QB.

Here's the problem with using stats only. Without the proper context, they're worthless. Example. Bryce throws for 3000 yards and 40 touchdowns. Amazing right until you view the context. Those numbers are generated by 40 75 yard screen passes that go for TDs. Now Bryce threw for 40 air yards on all those plays combined. Was it the receiver or Bryce who was responsible for all those stats? Obviously, this is a completely impossible scenario, but it is exaggerated to illustrate the issue with judging statistics alone. The eye test is a far better qualifier of is he an NFL franchise QB. Is he seeing the field? Is he able to go through his progressions. When the pocket gets squeezed, does he bail out or step up? If the defense stacks 8 in the box to stop the run, is he able to make them pay for it? Can he make the deep throws consistently with accuracy? Right now, he looks like he might be able to be a backup QB. Unless he makes a serious improvement in his overall game, I'm still looking for another franchise QB come off season.

As a backup to replace Dalton on a 2 year deal for the right low figure price, sure. Worst case scenario, he is a low price backup that doesn't really offer a whole lot. Best case scenario, he actually competes for the starting job with Bryce while we look for the replacement for both. Either way, doesn't really move the needle much, but everything depends on the numbers.

Thank you, tho it usually happens the same for me too. The odds on this one were way too favorable to pass on. Of the 3, the 150 yards has me the most concerned. KC has a good run defense which means BY is going to have to throw it. If I pull it off, I plan to make it the trip of a lifetime.

One of my customers had a kodiak bear mounted on the wall at his house. I have a black bear (dressed at 250 lbs) and this was probably 4x that size with claws almost 4 inches long. That would be one scary mofo to have to fight.

It's not fluffing. Having people in your FO that actually have gotten it done before is huge. And every year we all say they're gonna be in cap trouble and every year they pull out some miracle ass BS and they're not. I hate the Saints but if we could switch owners and FO right now I'd do it without hesitating. Tepper is that big of a handicap.

It all depends on what you pay and why he's brought here. On a 5M per 2 year contract to fill the Andy Dalton role, that would make sense because he's a backup with the potential to push to start over Young. Should you still look for a QB1? Absofreakinlutely. If he were brought in, neither he nor BY should just expect to be handed the reins to the offense. Could he end up being a reclamation project? Sure. But don't bring him in as one and for damn sure don't pay him like he's going to be one.

Most of us that didn't want Watson had reasons that had nothing to do with the football field.

Not having competition wasn't a miss, it was intentional. The possibility of an UDFA or some late round pick outperforming our big brain QB wasn't as remotely impossible as it should be. This was Dave trying to save his image.

I've thought we could go after Hooker but I'm not sure they would trade him away. Having a QB with a. Couple of seasons on the bench learning is quite the useful thing to have. They would probably want a 2nd or 3rd based on what they spent. If we could get him for a 4th I'd jump on it and not even blink.

Sadly not much available in the FA pool. Backup level contract only to replace Dalton and I'm fine with it. None of that Carr NO contract poo. And yes, still look for better.

If you can get Jones on the cheap to replace Dalton, then that's fine. At the least he should be starter contention with BY while we look for long term QB, whoever that might be.

Could have not requested an all pro payday and let them spend some cash.
