  1. I have been a bit of a Young hater, but with all the talk about him probably being the pick, I’ve been challenging myself to warm up to him. I think at this point I have adequately warmed up to Young being the pick and can get behind it. I’ve been concerned about arm strength and durability, but I will trust the team to make the best choice and hope Young’s pocket awareness and elusiveness results in him avoiding potential injury. As a franchise, we’ve drafted well in the first round, so I hope that continues to be true with this pick.
  2. How can we know the value or efficacy of this test as it relates to playing QB without having access to all the data points? Are there examples of QBs with scores in the 90th+ percentile that have failed in the NFL? Unless this information is available, I do not believe we can place much weight on the test. If it were as easy as just pick the QB with the highest S2 score, and the S2 score very accurately predicted success, then there probably would not be so many misses in QB selection.
  3. Both Josh McCown and Chris Simms compare Stroud to Burrow. Frank Reich is recently quoted as saying that availability is the most important ability and that Young’s size is a durability consideration. I believe we should and will select Stroud.
  4. I find the discussion of the durability of a QB of Young’s size to be fascinating and I look forward to watching Young’s career unfold as it relates to durability. I will be very impressed if he proves to be durable in the NFL beyond the rookie contract.
  5. Panthers coach Frank Reich, whose team owns the No. 1 overall pick, said durability is more of a consideration with Young than concerns that his short stature might lead to issues with batted passes. “The best ability is availability,” Reich said Tuesday during the NFC coaches breakfast at the NFL owners 'meeting.

  7. I appreciate that he admits it, but at the same time hurts his credibility that the difference between Young and Stroud for him was watching them throw side by side in summer 2022. Both Josh McCown and Chris Simms compare Stroud to Joe Burrow. I fully expect us to go with Stroud because he checks all the boxes and has the potential to be similar to Burrow. Young does not check the physical size box and I do not expect us to gamble that his historically small frame will hold up without significant injury over the years.
  8. How many NFL games have been started by QBs as small as Bryce Young? Doug Flutie is the closest size comparison I’m aware of and he started 66 games total according to my search. That is less than four seasons of regular season play alone. After watching Tua get repeatedly rag-dolled and concussed last year, it’s very hard for me to get on board with Bryce Young. I believe he will probably be a fine player when healthy, but I hope to avoid what Miami and Tua are dealing with right now. I am hoping for a QB that will be around beyond their rookie contract.
  9. I believe we will select Stroud. After watching Tua get repeatedly rag-dolled and concussed last season, it is hard for me to get on board with Bryce Young. I am too concerned about his durability to select him with the first overall pick. Durability and availability is a significant factor and for Bryce Young it’s a major red flag.
  10. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I personally do not see the Darnold/Stroud comparison and think it is forced to make a point in comparing two draft cycles. Our QB coach, McCown, compares Stroud to Burrow, and I believe McCown has more expertise and credibility on the issue of quarterbacking relative to fans. I would be thrilled to have a QB that is comparable to Burrow, so hopefully he is correct and we go in that direction. I think we should be thankful that we have, seemingly, a coaching staff that we can trust to make as sound a choice at QB as is reasonably possible.
  11. The sense I get is that today was an off day for Cam, but that, overall, Cam has had a strong training camp. Is this correct? I'm hoping for better timing with WRs compared to last year.
  12. Will be difficult to do better than Hurney in the first round of the draft. Hopefully we will do better in the other rounds though.
