  1. Not absent. Just harder to get to. Think page number and date of discussion/issue/transaction. I got called a troll and was accused of having an anti-SEC bias(AUburn alum)just because I said he sucked. People on here just don’t want their fantasies disturbed. Everything always is a good idea. Which doesn’t really make sense if the team is 3-21 in the 2nd half of the last 3 seasons. Ignoring the possibility of mistakes is what got the Panthers where they are. But you’re one of the very few who realizes that.
  2. Now take into account the huge positional salary difference, and the fact that one is good and the other just had an awful season. There’s more to it than guaranteed money. Shaq at 18M next year should be sweet. Or 12M to cut.
  3. Exactly. Just a number with no context as to how it came to be that way. OTC is the more consistently accurate of the two. The Matt Kalil contract was a complete mess on Sportrac. But the guy writing for OTC wanted to pay Kalil 7M more so I question his knowledge as well. Now that they have every scenario mapped out, it’s fairly easy to judge any move for yourself.
  4. I think I’ve been above board at all times with my feelings about the Panthers. I have no reason to dislike them. I was told to make sure I was here when Teddy led the Panthers to the playoffs last year. So I hung around and this seems to upset people as well. “I told you so” goes both ways. I’ve been here 6 years and am now being called a troll by the same people(not you) who agreed with me for the majority of them. Those tender ears and agendas tend to shift quickly.
  5. Not what I’m discussing. I was told that “basic math could justify picking up his option and guaranteed 19M. Still haven’t seen it. I don’t care either way. Just common sense thinking.
  6. Not to even mention the potential 100M or more in salary that Darnold will make the next 5 years as opposed to a real rookie QB like Fields. Which makes exercising that 5th year option having no upside and all risk. Any comparison has to assume they play at a similar level. The initial trade was a little much but not too bad. But guaranteeing another 19M for no reason is. It’s Darnold/Horn - Fields/ Moton/Moore new deals. I’m having a hard time using basic math to make on any of that logical financial sense. Maybe you will have better luck
  7. Whatever helps all crazy eight(or more)of you get through the day. And for the record, I never said Rhule lied. He gave a standard answer that he would have given under many scenarios. All coaches lie. All GMs lie.
  8. Not that you would know from being here only a couple weeks(on this alt) but I was one of the very few fans that actually wanted Rhule before he was hired. Unlike 99% of the posters who wanted McDaniels, McCarthey, etc...... The real question is did you, Chuck, create an alt to argue with yourself? Again? Sit down child and get a grip.
  9. Why zero reason? There are many different options that could have happened where Rhule lied. If they took Fields, do you really think Rhule would have went out there and said “Tepper made us take him?” Rhule could have had complete control, or Fitt could have. And the statement from Rhule would have been the same. Isn’t the draft about players?
  10. And Teddy was signed to be a starter. What’s that mean? But I don’t expect you to understand simple facts or common sense. The Panthers has their franchise QB long ago with Kyle Allen. According to you. You’re almost a mathematical impossibility with how everything you say turns out wrong. I’ll pay for the trip to Vegas if you will just say what you think will happen. Easiest money ever.
  11. And the Panthers invested 24M and have one year to turn Darnold around. Trash will cost 5M total over 4 years. Track busts and they will barely notice. Darnold stays the same and the Panthers are back in the Teddy Vortex of having 19M guaranteed to an ineffective QB.
  12. That’s the choice part. Never said it was easy. And Horn has never played a down. He could also bust. So it a chance on a QB that has been average on his best days, and a rookie who could be anything. The other is a rookie who could be anything, and a top available CB who has proven himself. Or a LT. or anything 90M buys. So how is it half. Actually, I forgot to include Horn’s salary which is very relevant and bigger than Fields. That makes it even worse Current tally, next 4 years. Darnold/Horn: about 130 Fields/???-110M. Reckon that would get an OL or two?
  13. I grew up in Pittsburgh in the 1970s. It’s definitely not the same. Then 1978. And they changed the rules in 2003 as well. And being able to just throw the ball away for the QB should get more attention as a factor.
  14. Does this mean everyone should disregard all the Nobel Peace Prize articles that were written at this time last year. I think one said he saved puppies in his sleep.
  15. The coaches and FO. If a staff feels they can get a better QB, they will do it. There is not set guidelines. If I’m going to the playoffs with Alex Smith, I’m not passing on Mahomes if I think he can be better. It pretty simple. After 2-3 years, of a staff isn’t sure about a QB, they can move on. If they get the chance because they probably got fired for choosing the wrong QB in the first place.
  16. The key being what is defined as a “hole”. Unless there is some sort of special circumstance, no team is giving up on a top draft pick after one year. It took a coaching change for Rosen, and even Haskins got a second year despite seemingly trying to fail.
  17. Even if Darnold “pans out”, he’s going to cost 19M in 2022 and about 90M for the next 3. That’s 109M for the next 4 years. Fields will cost about 20M total. That’s where the “drop in value” comes in. This guy just presents it so poorly. With equal play level, you either get Horn/Darnold. Or Fields and 20M+ each year.
  18. And Hurney could have carried a shotgun into every meeting and wouldn’t have had final say on anything. Especially not the biggest one of all. They weren’t planning for 5 years when they wasted 80M and picks to win a game or two more last year. Kk and Okung and Boston were not long term moves. So either Hurney had nothing to do with this move at all. Or he made a coach on a 7/70M contract believe in his evaluation skill that caused the job opening he just got. On a QB, that a staff member has been championing for years, and his former position coach.
  19. And I only disagreed with one very specific point. WR talent. Which was a horrible trip down memory lane. Neither was that much better to even matter. I don’t think he will be the answer. The trade was worth the shot. But passing on Fields and then guaranteeing him 19M for next is a huge risk(and mistake). It’s a tough needle to thread. It either “slows” down for him or the Panthers are in trouble.
  20. Context from people that get paid by who? You and every gullible fan who needs someone to explain stuff to them. What are their credentials? Just woke up one day and said “I know football”. Last year, many people that get paid said that the Panthers had found the answer at QB. Even went as far as proclaiming TB the best QB in the division. Why would I ever consider opinions from guys in their moms basement over my own. I don’t have to post other people’s opinions to justify mine. And I’ve never said the Jets were a good environment. Gase is awful. Team sucked. But that doesn’t erase all of his decision making issues he’s had since USC. Somehow this organization is going to make him a star? Based on what? Teddy’s performance last year?
  21. My stubbornly closed eyes? LOL The only thing that stat shows is how bad some of the backups were as well. And I don’t need depth charts and cherry-picked excuses to evaluate Darnold. Flacco looked better against NE and SD. Especially NE. I just don’t choose to discount what has ACTUALLY happened in favor of “hopeful” scenarios.
  22. So all that about the players means nothing now? It’s all about the coach? Did Mike Shula/Ron Rivera save Ted Ginns career or did Cam? And Flacco played as well, if not better, than Darnold in his limited time. Wouldn’t this also have to consider how poor the backup QBs were that took his place. Again. Context.
  23. And of course you take it to mean all stats when I clearly am talking about this specific scenario and your use of stats in it. With no context. The best WR Darnold has played with just came to Carolina and had his best season with a QB who they couldn’t get rid of fast enough. Why is that not valid. Seems much more relevant than players with different QBs. Gase also went to the playoffs with Tannehill in MIA. How many times did Darnold make it.
  24. So it’s still stats. How do you figure the QB they played with factors into those? One QB carried a WR1 that couldn’t get on the field to an MVP season and we should compare that to WRs who played with a QB that not one year ago was the subject of this nugget. “Now that we got Robbie Anderson away from Darnold, he’s gonna be great” And now, After an awful season, that same QB is the answer. Makes complete sense. The point is you can’t just use stats without context. You’re going off one year and one of the three was injured which only seems to be an excuse when convenient.
