  1. 19th highest salary, not counting that the only starting QBs on that list making less are on rookie deals. 19th for an average backup QB. Not a starter. 2 years and 42M to get to that OUT. How is that anything but horrible considering you could have gotten his quality of play for 3M or less? Just because someone else who doesn’t understand the salary cap says there is an OUT, doesn’t mean it isn’t an awful contract. Matt Kalil had an out. Doesn’t mean it wasn’t horrible and costly to the team. And how is 17M a value to a team trading for him?
  2. What out? To keep him it will cost the Panthers 28M in cap space. 23 this year. 5 next. A team trading for him would have to pay him 17M to be on their team this year. Who is going to pay that for a backup QB who just showed his limited ability? If anything, statements like these pretending that contract isn’t a huge obstacle is something that has been falsely portrayed on here for awhile.
  3. This year if he’s designated post June 1. You still have 5M more next year. 20M you can’t spend, ever, is the entire point. Luke is taking up 7.5M of cap space this year. Kicking it down the road doesn’t make it disappear.
  4. It would matter when stacked onto TBs cap hit of 23M. That 20M for Stafford was more than the current room you have under the cap. With one signed OL. No 1st rounder. No money for Moton. Or anyone.
  5. And wasted it all so fast that he took 5K from HBO sports to lie about taking money from Auburn. Not many people I think less of than Stanley.
  6. Shaq has no trade value to anyone. DJ has a little. They are looking for cheap players on rookie deals. Not overpriced, average OLBs and an inconsistent CB with one cheap year left.
  7. I hope that sarcasm. I’ve been pretty much Hurney’s most vocal critic for as long as I’ve been on here. Ask anyone. But I’m not blaming him for things he didn’t do. And never have.
  8. And why is it that this supposed “pounding the table for Teddy” scenario became public only AFTER Hurney was fired? It wasn’t like Brady didn’t know him as well as anyone could. One person made that decision. Didn’t matter who “screamed” for what. Blaming Hurney is just the same old story of blaming the guy who is gone for everything. Thus absolving the current coach of any mistakes. Rhule is going to be fine. But it was his mistake. He was the only one with the power to make it. Jimmy Johnson drafted Steve Walsh in the first round of the supplemental draft, just months after using the #1 overall pick on Troy Aikman. They went 1–15 and that pick would have been #1 overall the following year. People were convinced Johnson was a mistake as a NFL HC. He sort of figured it out. Herschel trade helped.
  9. That was made pretty clear when they made Stafford available. Hard to imagine a better spot for him to go to. Very good weapons. KS offense. Talented roster.
  10. So the GM on the last year of an around 1M/yr contract, “made” the HC(and his 7/63M contract a final say in every roster decision) sign a QB that he didn’t want to? Is that the story still? I’m sure he didn’t consult his new OC that had coached Teddy before. It was the final nail because the team needed a scapegoat for a horrible decision that set the franchise back a year(at least). If Rhule listened to Hurney on ANY decision, then that is a mistake on his part.
  11. I was agreeing that the only way he’s traded is to include a pick. But at 17M, it will take more than a 5th. People need to realize that just because a team has cap space doesn’t mean they should throw it away. Osweiler was 16M and it took a 2nd.
  12. The problem is the other team would have to pay 17M for him. And no team is going to want to do that.
  13. You really think it’s not Rhule job to to worry about contracts terms. Hurney threw the pitch. Rhule swung and missed. If you actually convince yourself that Hurney ever wanted him at all. I’m sure it much more convenient to believe Hurney went rogue on this single move.
  14. How is it not? “He showed him the contract and he pooped his pants like the rest of us” That means it’s final. It’s why I asked for clarification. How was that not a taake it and like it scenario?
  15. First, if he, or any GM signed a starting QB without consulting the HC, they would be fired. One makes 9M and the other about 1M. For a reason. But if it helps your imagination, have at it. Has everything you have been told from the staff been true? Let’s not pretend it has been. Nor would it be for any staff. Maybe he’s getting canned so someone could help Rhule not waste around 70M of cap room on a rebuild this time. Not going to make a numbers guy like Tepper happy doing that.
  16. Y’all are hearing many things that weren’t “reported” in a timely manner. And what did what Marty thought matter?
  17. So you believe that Hurney walked in with a signed TB contract and gave it to Rhule? Just deal with it. And you think he wouldn’t have been fired immediately? This is a perfect example of the mental gymnastics it takes to make the current coaches blameless. Not how someone with complete control has little to no accountability.
  18. Yep. There’s no way to chip through at this level of delusion. That fictional scenario is ridiculous. And you believing that contract isn’t a big deal is absolutely proof you don’t understand the mistake that was made, much less who was responsible. You roll with your sources. What’s my motivation here? It’s well-known I think Hurney is awful. But I predicted this exact scenario before any roster decisions were made. I did wait and toss an remark in a thread only hours after he was fired. Yet somehow, not one mention anywhere before? You’re seeing what you want. I’m seeing what I predicted unfold.
  19. I’m just trying to understand how Rhule can do all these other moves, but being the SOLE decision maker he can somehow be not “the main culprit” in this particular one. What happened? Did Marty hold his breath and force Rhule to sign him for that amount? What magical spell did Marty weave to make Rhule consent? On just this issue?
  20. So basically, every good decision was Rhule, and every mistake was Hurney? Who kept KK? Acquired Okung? Gave Boston a deal? Who signed CMC? We’re all these on Hurney? Who drafted?
  21. You are. Completely. What he did in college means nothing. And you want to believe that somehow Hurney convinced a coach with total control to make a horrible decision. Why would Rhule even consider a lame duck GM with a subpar resume, over anything he thought. Why does Brady actually coaching TB not even factor in? That’s the definition of picking and choosing. Just to somehow justify that the current staff didn’t have a hand in it. That’s why he was fired when TB flopped. To place blame on Hurney. Exactly what I said would happen back when he was kept on in January.
  22. What lines should I be reading between? Because nothing is going to add up to that work of fiction. Rhule made every decision. Period. You can’t pick and choose which ones he doesn’t get credit/blame for. So Hurney “lobbied” for this, but that was never mentioned until he was fired? Pretty convenient PR for a horrible mistake made by the ONE person who had final say. Brady was the only coach who had ever even been around TB before he signed. Coached him an entire year in NO. But Hurney was the “voice” that made Rhule do this? LOL. OK. What other moves did Rhule follow Hurneys lead on? If a first year scout gives an opinion on a player, and Rhule acts on it, who is responsible? Rhule, the decision maker, or the scout?
  23. Rhule had been here almost 3 months. And he was GM. So what. Did he have the power to sign anyone that Rhule didn’t approve of? No he didn’t. Unless you can point me to any player Hurney signed without Rhule’s approval, it’s just blaming someone who didn’t have the power to act on any thoughts he had. Just because someone put out the “company” line almost immediately after the firing, doesn’t mean the Rhule didn’t make the final decision.
  24. Then why was this inside information only released after his firing? Why no mention when TB played well. Why not during his signing? Or the off-season. Again, what did Marty’s feelings matter? Did Rhule make the final call or not? On everything. I mentioned numerous times since Rhule was hired that Hurney was there to be a scapegoat for any first year mistakes. I didn’t wait until it was convenient to a narrative.
