I think there’s options but the NHL is trying to minimize the excuses in my opinion. The NHL isn’t responsible for who gets Covid so they can essentially say “sorry, but the games have to go on”. If they start tampering with the schedule and rules there will be push back from teams. Not every team we’ll agree to the changes which is what they would need.

Agreed, except I have Howell in front of Pickett because I’m unsure if Pickett truly had a Burrow type progression or if he took advantage of a horrible ACC. His previous years leave a lot to be desired.

For what it’s worth, I like Howell as well. Like Willis, Howell played behind statistically one of the top 10 worst OL’s in all of college football. Howell for me has some of the same cons as Willis, he sometimes makes poor decisions when he’s failed by his OL. I also don’t think Howell’s deep ball progressed from last year like I thought it would but that could be due to losing Brown and Newsome. Where I really like Howell is in the intermediate routes (unlike Willis).

It’s not easy to say… it’s an actual fact. It’s not just a bad OL, it’s a horrible OL. Liberty gave up 52 sacks this year (the second most in all of college football). Unless he’s selected by the Panthers he won’t see that type of OL play. So you couple the fact that he lost his #1 receiver before the season started with the fact that he played behind the second worst OL in all of college football.. I think that makes what he accomplished pretty impressive. I’m putting it out there right now that if he improves his passing game in the intermediate routes then he’ll be a very good player. He simply played hero ball (which resulted in poor mistakes) out of necessity, not because he’s a poor thinker or bad at reading routes.

I’ll also mention, the senior bowl will be huge for him. If he performs well then he’s a first round pick… if he doesn’t then he might be a third round guy like you said.

When you don’t have time to throw and you are your teams offense then there are going to be bad habits. There’s only maybe one (and that’s a big maybe) other NFL player on Liberty’s entire offensive unit (DeMario Douglas), I think he can be coached out of playing hero ball.

It’s not as bad as people make it out to be. Liberty’s OL has a lot to do with his bad habits. Like I said, with the right coaching he’ll succeed. Watch his progress from Auburn to Liberty. Three years ago he couldn’t even complete passes in Auburn’s spring game… now he’s being projected as a first round pick. He’s only gotten better with time and I think he will continue to succeed based off of what I’ve seen.

This is a bad take. Liberty’s OL is worse than UNC’s which has been the constant excuse for Howell.. with that in mind, of course Willis will struggle when playing SEC teams. When Willis has time he throws a very impressive deep ball, it’s the inconsistency in the intermediate passing game that he needs to work on. For all the people clamoring about Zach Wilson last year, Wilson lost to the Coastal Carolina team that Willis single handily beat.

Having seen Malik Willis play live multiple times, he’d be the guy I go with (assuming we have a new coaching staff). I’ll echo the sentiment that he has an extremely high ceiling with an extremely low floor. However, with the right coaching I think he’ll be a very good NFL player. He’s been working with Sean McEvoy and Quincy Avery to refine his craft. McEvoy, who has worked with both Willis and Lance, stated that Willis has the better arm strength between the two which is absolutely crazy to think about. I personally think he’ll be a great player, he arguably has the best deep ball in all of college football and he’s put up solid numbers through the air and on the ground behind one of the worst (if not the worst) OL in all of college football. If a coach can work on his mechanics a little bit so that he’s more consistent on his intermediate throws then he could be an absolute freak on the football field. His Houdini acts and presence in the run game speaks for itself. Not to mention, the guy is a great leader and very humble. If we traded down and picked up an early pick in the second round then I’d target Willis.

The NHL is backed into a corner here because teams don’t own the arena’s that they play in. If they continue to push games out then they’ll eventually run into the issue of overlapping dates with concerts and other future events hosted by the venues that their teams play in. It sucks but either all the teams need to push through or they just need to cancel the season. As for this game, it’s a lose-lose for the Canes. If they lose it’s embarrassing, if they win it’s because they were supposed to. Hopefully there’s no rust.

Rozier is on a different level right now. Always tough to win on the road, good win.

Team Canada Update Canada throttled Austria 11-2 to move to 2-0. Nearly everyone on Team Canada had a point and Seeley was no exception. He picked up a secondary and primary assist while playing on the first paring with Buffalo prospect, Owen Power. What makes this impressive is that Seeley was a seventh round draft pick. Eh, it’s not really the same in my opinion. The college all-star teams had very little time to practice together and it wasn’t the best players, it was the best seniors. For all intents and purposes, those games were more or less just another preseason game for the the NFL team. Not to mention, it was college aged seniors who had never played together against the previous years NFL champion. I’m looking for a specific example where college aged kids were a part of an actual team that practiced together, played together, and took on a team full of professional players with something at stake. It would be even more helpful if it was a good college team against a poor professional team to really gauge the outcome. I don’t think that’s ever happened in any sport and the game I mentioned was the closest I could think of to meet those parameters.

Playing devils advocate, the closest thing that we’ve seen to this was when a bunch of children from the USA beat arguably the best hockey team of all time (USSR). So while it’s unlikely that we’d lose, there’s always the chance. And while yes the sports are different, the premise is still the same. The USSR was bigger, faster, and had more experience… but for that one game it didn’t matter. I still think that we’d beat Bama by 35+ points 99/100 times.

Team USA Update The USA is having to forfeit their game against Switzerland today, the US falls to 1-1 and we still haven’t seen Morrow yet.

Team Sweden Update Sweden defeated Slovakia 3-0 yesterday to improve to 2-0 in the tournament. While Nybeck still hasn’t found his game yet, Nystrom has become a little more active. He had a nice hit early in the game which unfortunately was incorrectly whistled for tripping. He’s already getting the shaft so he should fit in well with the Canes. Nystrom also had a nice assist off the boards to Sjoberg who finished off the breakaway.
