Which side of the ball needs more help?
shaqattaq replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
Right now Ickey is rehabbing a major injury while on his 5th year option. He's going to want top money next season. Walker signed a 1 year deal. He's going to want big money next year. Moton is 32 years old and cutting him after the season saves $14.5M in 2027. So he's already set to receive really really big money next year. Like you said, there's a lot of solid options in the back half of round 1 that should be in play. Hell, I had been watching Blake Miller From Clemson on day 2 as a Moton replacement in 2027. He's solid, dependable and smart. A year in a NFL weight room will do wonders for him. -
Which side of the ball needs more help?

Not counting QB!!! We're rolling with BY and KP for better or worse. Then I say Defense. We need legit starters at ILB and FS, probably DT. Our main upgrade needed on Offense is TE, and our current squad is mediocre even if not awe inspiring. That being said, I'd LOVE to add a pass-catching TE, OT and IOL after round 1. -
This is the best plan. Convince me otherwise

Believe me, I want Scott starting like I want a kick in the nuts, but who's available that's better? Kyle Dugger and Donovan Wilson are SS. Jamie Ward and Harrison Smith are 35 and 37. We could bring back Xavier Woods but that didn't go so well last time. The FA market is dry! That's why I think we actually go against our aversion this year and draft a FS on day 1 or 2. Unless they think Ransom can make the switch from SS to FS in year 2 but I don't really think that's the answer either. -
I was going to reply similarly to @MHS831. A week ago we pretty much HAD to go OT at 19, but DMo has set us up to literally work from our big board. If the right guy at OT, DT, CB, FS, ILB, TE falls, we can grab them and keep on truckin. I would argue that the only 2 starters from last year that still need upgrading (other than QB...Bryce is our guy in 2026 for better or worse - that has been discussed ad nauseum for 4 years) are Scott and a Wallace. Wharton could be on that list as well but I agree with you that Lloyd and Phillips instantly make him better. OT and CB are on the list because we need to be looking at 2027 and beyond. I do think we get a pass-catching TE an speedster WR, but not in rounds 1 or 2.

I hear ya, but... there really isn't a whole lot out there right now that is any better. At least not that I can see. Unless staff sees Ransom as being able to switch to more of a FS role, I'm pretty sure we draft a starter and Scott is the back up. Also, I see him as a solid backup. -

The more I think about it the more I like the idea. Him (Kayden McDonald), Caleb Banks, and Peter Woods all should have 1st round grades and I could see any of them being there at 19. Our 2015 D was so damned good because KK and Star were in there throwing people around like they were in a mosh pit. -
Some of the best F.A signings in Panthers history?

Off the top of my head, Greg Olsen has to be in contention for best FA ever. -
At this point its Sadiq or bust... A

THIS! IF we go offense at 19, it should be the trenches, which is no longer a pressing need with Waler's signing. 3 biggest needs in 2026, IMO, are DT, FS, ILB. We need to upgrade our starters at those positions and I expect anyone rafted at 19 to start immediately. I could rationalize OT (right or left) or CB since we're an injury away from a severe drop off AND have huge offseason concerns at both next year. Unless Bryce plays a lot better, I want to upgrade QB next year so I could get behind locking in a 2027 starter this year if the right guy is there. You COULD argue NCB and TE are positions where we need to upgrade our starters, sure, but not at 19. Both positions can still be upgraded on day 2. -
The team store should re-release Dan Morgan's jersey.

At the time, I remember thinking Luke was a great player but a luxury pick. LOL, WTF did I know. -
I was explaining this very fact to my wife Friday afternoon! She gave zero fugs.

BREAKING: Panthers re-signing Nick Scott

I'm giving that a better grade than initially now that we signed Walker and Nijman retired. Stone is a Nijman replacement not a Icky replacement, I feel better. -

Defensive Tackle: The Need that Shall Not be Named

I've been warming up to the idea of CB on day 2 (I haven't researched enough to give a name). We have our starters for 2026, so someone not ready to start day 1 is an option, I expect anyone we draft at 19 to be an immediate starter. -
I like them thicc!

Panthers signing Packers LT Rasheed Walker
shaqattaq replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I was thinking about d-line. Peter Woods is not only a beast of a man, but also my porn star name. Kayden McDonald might be a better fit as more of a natural NT. DMo has certainly set us up well for the draft. -

this is a good draft for OT, maybe not next year. He's betting on himself. -

Makes me curious about Rozeboom's plan. He is decent enough depth that was forced to start when Jewel suddenly retired. I doubt that he's getting a lot of looks as a starter with some of the names still out there and a deep ILB draft. I would love him back on the cheap as depth, but I bet we're waiting for the market to settle so we don't end up overpaying. -
That's why we nabbed Kenny!!!! -sarcasm

I just saw this and was looking for a spot to post. Whoever we get is going to get trial by fire for sure. Some big names coming our way this season.

1. Signed a 1 year, prove it deal with the QB that he helped win the Heisman. That tells me that he hopes to rekindle some of that magic an get a lucrative deal next season. I really hope it works out because that'll be another good receiver on the roster but I'm not holding my breath. The poor man has had to deal with some terrible bad luck; Leukemia, torn ACL, and worst of all, the Jets. Bless his heart. 2. I haven't completely given up on XL, but damn! Just keep your feet inbounds and know where the 1st down line is, that's football 101. 3. WR on day 3 or even another FA is a very viable option. You gotta keep churning the bottom of the roster. Good teams have good depth.
