Got to throw TMac onto the kudos list! He's been good from day 1, but looks to be getting better every game, although that could just be he and Bryce getting into rhythm, as you said. 2 TD's and I love love love watching him block! Big man ain't afraid to hit!!

We should have Stuck with Darnold another year and not traded so much for a QB in 2023.

Nic Scourton- PFF Highest Rated Rookie (Week 5)
shaqattaq replied to ProcessBlue2's topic in Carolina Panthers
I rewatched the final, game winning drive yesterday and was looking for the perfect place to post this. Starting on the 4th and 5... Horn fights through a PI to catch a beautiful pass to keep the drive alive. Next play, they bring him in motion and run Etienne behind him with TMac and Tremayne both throwing nice blocks for him (2:10 on the clock). Next play, Evans for a TD! Fitzgerald for the PAT. First play on defense, Thornton has a hellova pass breakup! ALL ROOKIES! SEVERAL UDFA'S! The future of the franchise is in good hands! Edit: Tremayne is not a rookie, he came off Washington's PS. But since he was a UFA who never played, I'm counting him. -
I heard that Greg will be calling the Dallas game!

As much as I'd like for Bryce to prove us all wrong... He has done absolutely nothing to make me think that he will. I think Teddy Bridgewater level game manager is his ceiling. Sometimes you just have to cut your loses and stop throwing good money after bad... We fugged up! Now, let Canales draft his QB next season and se how we fare.
-
Still don't think he and Bryce are a good match, BUT to give credit where credit is due, DC switched up his game plan enough to get the W! The man is learning, I hope he continues.
-
Not sure that he has the deep ball to be what I consider a "gunslinger". I do agree that the o-line getting it together and being able to lean on the run game saved his ass from a couple of BIG early mistakes. Bryce, IMO, panics or "plays scared" anytime there's a ton of pressure on him. That simple. If he can't overcome that, he'll never be a franchise QB. GPKP!!
-
They both ran the ball well, but I'm going to agree with giving Rico he slight edge - No stats, just the eyeball test. PLUS, I saw him blocking his ass off in the backfield several times, which always gives me warm fuzzies.
-
I wonder if they're trying to keep Renfrow fresh by controlling his snap count???
-
IMO, Bryce is pretty damned good as long as he's not under pressure, which he wasn't yesterday. If the opponent is able to pressure him, well...

Damn that was a longer post than I intended, Maybe I should have started a new thread.

On that TD, he sure didn't get any help from Scott at FS! While we're pointing out Blue Chips...Horn has proven to be a lock-down, (dare I say)elite CB and DB is one of the best at DT. Which brings me to a topic that has unfortunately been much on my mind lately...2026. Our important (IMO) FAs are: Rico Dowdle - As you pointed out, Etienne is developing nicely and Brooks is still untested potential, so not a big loss. Cade Mays and Brady Christensen - I think we can keep both without breaking the bank. BC tested the market this year and it was all but non-existent. He's a solid backup, but backup linemen don't get paid. Mayes is our only starter on the line who's a FA and he's technically not a starter. Corbett is a FA, but good riddance as far as I'm concerned. He stays hurt and can't snap the damn ball when he is healthy. Hunter Renfrow signed a 1 -year prove it deal, and will resign a team friendly deal again I think. He has repeatedly said that he only wants to play here and is Coker's backup anyway. DJ Wonnum - Solid mid-tier guy that I would like back, but is easily replaceable. I will not cry if he walks. Every other FA is bottom of the barrel roster fillers. As it stands now, we need (in order); QB, ILB, OL/DL depth, secondary depth. If we resign Mays, OL is in tact again and still pretty darned good. Horne, Jackson, and Smith-Wade are solid starters as are T-mac and Coker. We have some promising young WRs in Tremayne and Horn. I see us trying to get a FA Chain mover and/or resign Renfrow. RB room looks really good. TE is a conundrum, Tremble will never be a great pass catcher and Sanders will never be a great blocker. Evans is starting to show signs of life, but not enough to tell yet. This could be another spot we try to upgrade via free agency, having a proven TE could really help our rookie QB.

AZ was letting him have the checkdown to Chuba and he fugged that up, sure. BUT look at the bottom of the screen... at this point they're not even bothering to cover XL. The corner and the safety are already running AWAY from him before BY draws back. They know he's not going to make a play with the game on the line. IF Bryce could throw 35 yards ... they know it's a dropped ball. i think it comes dow to the fact that Bryce can't see the whole right side of the field!

He's better than Wallace IMO.

We Need More Pacific Islanders on this Team

I missed the date you started this thread. I thought you had lost your frikkin mind! But you obviously were right! Pie for you. -
IN THE 2ND ROUND!!!
-
A lot of us said this at the time, it's not even hindsight. We should have kept the picks and stuck with Mayfield or Darnold 1 more year, or even let them both walk and still picked up Dalton in 2023.
-
Hurts rode the pine behind Wentz most of his first season And Purdy was behind Lance and Garrapolo until they both got hurt. Hell, I don't think he was active roster until 2/3 of the way through the season. Both were drafted as developmental QB's and both were starters by the end of season 1, then never looked back. Not exactly what you meant since both did start their 1st season, but neither were supposed to and neither were 1st rounders.

Jared Feinberg's Panthers v Jaguars film review
shaqattaq replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
And Jewell was a low to mid-tier starter at best. I have no comprehension f how we spend the offseason trying to "fix" our run D without doing more at ILB, even if Jewell had stuck around. -

Both of those things happened, and XL was supposed to be on the back pylon. None of that means that Bryce doesn't tuck and at least try to leap for 1 damn yard and the 1st down. That was a stupid play. In fact, it was so stupid that it stood out in a litany of stupid plays (not solely Bryce, the whole team made stupid plays).
-
That sure looks like a catch to me!
-
This plus the PI on him that I still think he catches would have put him over 100 yards receiving.
