Kristen Balboni introduces Sam Darnold to southern foods.
Mr. Scot replied to Captain Morgan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Also, "chill". -
Height doesn't really bother me so much if a guy shows he can play. Weighing less than the average high school baseball player does give me a little bit of pause.

Former Jets scout Daniel Kelly on Trey Lance
Mr. Scot replied to mccjeff's topic in Carolina Panthers
The tone is incredibly harsh. I'm used to seeing scouts say "he does this well, this not so much, etc etc" but this? Ouch. Granted he could turn out to be right, but damn -

There's a former... Jets... head coach up in New England that's not doing too bad. This whole idea that somebody who was previously part of a bad organization is necessarily bad themselves is a really dumb concept. -
But the guaranteed, can't-miss, super franchise quarterback that'll take us to the promised land regardless of whether we protect him or not does, right?
-
So you think he's just going to ignore Fitterer's opinion? Again, I don't know whether Darnold is going to succeed or not, but what I do know is that for the first time in a long time, we have a GM who actually has a scouting background. I also know, from reading the details of the process, that they didn't just throw a dart at a dart board. Darnold's name came up right after they lost out on Matthew Stafford, and they've given him an extremely thorough look. Yeah, I know a lot of the Huddle thanks this is just a desperate backup ploy, but the facts just don't support that at all. And while I realize having people put their knee jerk / hot take reactions on hold is a lot to ask around here, that's what I'm doing right now. Darnold wasn't real high on my list either, but I am actually willing to give him a chance. (and there are a lot of indications that the team is too)
-
Not that familiar with him so I looked him up. This is Atwell.
-
You realize Scott Fitterer wasn't here last year, right?
-
I'm gonna kinda guess they disagree.

Every regular season: "Why don't we have a better offensive line? Every following offseason: "We don't really need to take a tackle in the first round." Lather, rinse, repeat...
-
Not a huge fan of them myself, but a couple of these receivers weigh less than some of my receiver teammates did in high school
-
I have no idea if Darnold will be good, but I find the people who are absolutely certain they know one way or another to be pretty funny.
-
Head coach and GM both watched his entire career on film, then chose to trade three picks for him including a second rounder, and you think they're just throwing darts at a dart board because...you don't think he's good? Come on, man.
-
You think the team believes that?
-
Sure. Then pick another in Round Two because keep swinging, right?
-
Or Darnold could be perfectly fine and Fields be awful (or vice versa) but the good one gets beaten to hell behind a sh-tty line that can't protect them. Not like we've seen that movie before, right?
-
Yeah, that's... horrible thinking when you're talking about a rebuilding team with multiple needs. By that logic, we could use our first and second picks on a quarterback or more because...hey, screw team building if we don't have a quarterback, right? And hey, it's not like a pass rusher could get past our mediocre left tackle and snap our franchise quarterback in two either, right. That never happens! Wait...Joe who? He plays where?
-
You're talking like everybody was in favor of that idea. A lot of us weren't.
-
Ideal Draft Day scenario is that one of the top quarterbacks or another really hot (non-OL) player falls to pick #8 and more than one team calls with offers. In that situation, you can leverage the two teams against each other to get the best package possible.
-
You're correct. My mistake.
-
Wrong. If the guy you used the first round pick on fails, or even if the guy you already had succeeds, then you wasted a first round pick when you could have used it to shore up a position of great need. That's a bad outcome.
-
Never hurts to ask.
-
Could be as little as one spot back with Denver. They get Fields while the Panthers still get whoever is at the top of their board at the time plus additional picks.
-
If they're looking at moving back, it's more likely because they think somebody else is "intrigued" enough by Fields to offer them a nice trade.
-
Speculation that they could conceivably trade down to 10 with the Eagles but still get one of the top two tackles (if they fell) I'd probably just go ahead and take one at 8 but I'm a cautious person.
