  1. The Panthers history with quarterbacks is...complicated, starting at the very beginning. Story was that Bill Polian, Mike Mccormack, Dom Capers and the Panthers personnel people had a plan built around drafting Kerry Collins. But when draft day came around, the war room suddenly got word that the Houston Oilers had flipped the script and were taking Collins. Polian said everyone basically panicked because they thought their schemes were about to get ruined and they'd have to go with Plan B. Turned out to be fake though. The Oilers went in another direction and the Panthers landed Collins. Good thing, because it sure would have been lousy to have missed out on Kerry Collins and had to settle for Steve McNair instead. (whew, sure dodged that one, right?)
  2. I didn't necessarily expect us to be active in free agency either. Ya never know.
  3. Getting a quality backup is cool. It's nowhere near the same as getting a franchise quarterback though.
  4. I have positive feelings about Rhule, but I wouldn't say I'm sold on him just yet; one big reason being there's a different measure of success for him now. As a college coach, Rhule took struggling programs and built them into overachievering programs, but not championship programs. And as you mentioned, not necessarily programs that could beat more established ones. Turning a bad team into a fairly good team is enough to get you celebrated at that level, but this is the pros. Nobody gives you a trophy for overachieving in the NFL. You either win championships or you eventually lose your job. Obviously, I hope he proves to be capable of that, but we don't know just yet.
  5. I honestly think he just saw the next player on the draft board that the scouting and personnel department had put together. Heck, they didn't even play him until Drew Bledsoe got hurt. Scott Pioli was asked about it years afterward and denied that it was genius. He said something along the lines of "hell, if we were geniuses, we'd have taken him long before the sixth round." I agree wholeheartedly.
  6. Or just some extremely bad takes...
  7. This may be the dumbest thing ever written on this board.
  8. Or just get really, really lucky. I know a lot of people think getting Brady in the 6th was a sign of genius, but I don't.
  9. Newman looked like absolute garbage at the Senior Bowl and then refused to take part in Georgia's pro day.
  10. I think we already had this thread. Maybe the mods should just merge it with the other one.
  11. There's three or four (or more) posts in this thread that aren't exactly aging well.
  12. Mike Sando in The Athletic... 11. Carolina looks like the odd team out, at least for now. The Panthers have not run from the narrative that owner Daniel Tepper is determined to land a franchise quarterback by almost any means necessary. Their prospects dimmed some with the 49ers leapfrogging them. It’s still early, and the Panthers still could climb from their current No. 8 slot in the order. It just remains less how they’ll proceed.
  13. Daniel Jeremiah said he'd never seen so many "movement" throws, simulating his having to scramble to escape pressure and such.
  14. ...is now actually being discussed among credentialed NFL analysts. Sports Illustrated 7. O.K., we understand the Eagles losing that game to the Giants now I took a sledgehammer to the Eagles after their transparent season finale tank job. Why would a team risk alienating its core veterans and lose a game just to move up three spots in a deep NFL draft class? This is why. It’s hard to imagine Howie Roseman was playing 3D chess and knew of this deal the entire time, but the Eagles essentially netted an additional first-round pick by losing that game and dropping three spots.
  15. I saw the workout. That's not the only insane throw he made. There were several.
  16. The scenario requires not only that the Falcons don't take a quarterback, but they also don't trade the pick to someone who will.
  17. I don't want a hedge fund manager making football decisions.
  18. Memorable for kicking Jerramy Stevens in the balls...
  19. Mother of... For the record, there were several more crazy throws like that one. Couldn't help but think of Russell Wilson while I was watching.
  20. Regarding the Watson time frame, the NFL's investigation of Antonio Brown's single accuser last year is still ongoing. An investigation involving 24 accusers is going to take...a while.
  21. As the best path to getting Sam Howell? Sure.
  22. All right Spanish, I get it. Watching his pro day workout I've said "damn" so many times I've lost count. He's damn good.
