  1. Henny Youngman's been gone for a while now On a sad note, I won't be surprised if Fitterer mentions Ted Thompson at some point tomorrow. Thompson held the title that Fitterer most recently held in Seattle when Fitterer first got there. They were colleagues for his first few years with the Seahawks before Thompson eventually moved on to become GM of the Packers. Thompson passed away today.
  2. Bit of sad news... Thompson was Vice President of Football Operations in Seattle when Scott Fitterer arrived there as a scout. Fitterer ultimately ascended to that same title before becoming GM of the Panthers.
  3. Not sure, but I do notice the theme that Jacksonville seems to be building around with their latest hires is "enemies of Jim Harbaugh".
  4. "Pretty damn high" would also potentially be a description of our salary cap.
  5. You know my first reaction looking at that scoreboard pic? It really is a new day for this team. Jerry's gone, Marty's gone, so now maybe we can finally get off the hamster wheel and hit the ground running. Feels good
  6. Highlighted this part in another thread, how he got here... The Panthers were double-digit interviews into their general manager search when Nagy reached out to good friend Patrick Stewart, Carolina’s director of player personnel, and suggested Fitterer. A virtual interview was conducted two Sundays ago, followed by an in-person interview three days later. Fitterer was hired the next day. “I told Pat, ‘Fit’s a great guy. I’m sure you don’t know him well, but he’ll be a great fit,’" Nagy said. “That’s a great group moving forward on the football side.’’
  7. Thinking back to last week, I still can't believe the radio guys and others were going apesh-t over the whole "wait, we just offered" thing. They weren't going to announce it if it wasn't happening.
  8. Guessing we get a contract signing picture shortly.
  9. His rookie season...Damn. You can see that other shoulder is basically dead.
  10. Hurney still isn't official yet, but Baalke is... From here on out, Urban Meyer will be referred to as "Larry".
  11. I definitely don't see us as just a quarterback and a couple of good players away. We spent years complaining because despite the fact we had Cam Newton, he didn't have a good enough team around him. I'm not a fan of seeing us go back into that position. (and I don't really think Watson would be either)
  12. This would be the fourth year of a five year deal, but I was thinking more along the lines of if they let him go. Definitely couldn't see trading for that contract.
  13. I'd have to say using it to pick our own franchise quarterback without having to give away a bunch of other stuff that we can use to rebuild the team would be superior. Granted, it's also a huge risk.
  14. Despite my "not a big fan" status, even I think Stafford is better than Bridgewater.
  15. That's kind of a hard sell to fans that spent years cheering for Thomas Davis.
  16. A little more from David Newton... So apparently, we have two people to thank for Scott Fitterer getting an interview. One of them is Jim Nagy who made a call to someone in the Panthers front office to suggest it. The other is, surprisingly, the guy he called. Pat Stewart. Why is that surprising? Because Stewart was a candidate for the job himself. In suggesting another interview, Stewart was potentially doing damage to his own chances. But he did it anyway... The Panthers were double-digit interviews into their general manager search when Nagy reached out to good friend Patrick Stewart, Carolina’s director of player personnel, and suggested Fitterer. 17. Gruden was playing QB roulette in Tampa for a while.
  18. Like a billionaire who sticks other people with the lunch check?
