  1. Being involved as an owner is understood. Unfortunately, if you also happen to be a dumbsh-t, it's a bad idea. Heck, there are people wanting the Panthers to fire Scott Fitterer along with Rhule and then have David Tepper be the guy who picks both head coach and GM. That's an ocean I find absolutely insane.
  2. Well some things obviously should be I mean, on the one hand we've got people thinking we're going to trade a boatload of picks to the Ravens for Lamar jackson. At the same time, we've got people thinking we're going to trade a boatload of picks to the Saints for Sean Payton. Hell, there are probably people who think we're gonna do both. They'll probably even use the Rams as justification. And while yes, the Rams got a trophy, it looks like the bills are coming due on that spending (and fast).
  3. Or just do what the Texans did. Also have to factor in that they believe in Tyler Huntley, so I doubt they'd have a problem starting Huntley while Jackson holds out.
  4. It would require a change of attitude from before. During the prior coaching search, he specifically stated that he didn't need any consultants or outside experts. Tepper believed that he, Marty Hurney and Steven Drummond could handle it. That committee netted us Matt Rhule I can certainly hope that he'd acknowledge he has no idea what he's doing in this area, but I'm not about to count on it.
  5. They have the option of using the exclusive franchise tag, which would basically mean nobody else can negotiate with him. In that scenario, they hold all the cards.
  6. I don't want a retread. I especially don't want anybody who's chosen by David Tepper.
  7. I've said it before, but Tepper for a lot of his career was basically able to just "big ball" his way through everything. I think he genuinely believed he'd come here, shake things up by doing them differently, "show em how it's done" and have the world bow down to him as the best NFL owner ever. Instead, he's in contention for a spot as one of the worst. And I'm not sure how somebody with an ego like his handles that.
  8. Pretty sure the story about him telling his players he had college options was confirmed. And granted, he comes off as kind of a narcissist. I guess my biggest question with regard to him is whether he genuinely believes his own bullsh-t or it's all just a con job.
  9. I'm not convinced the Ravens will be willing to part with him. But even if they are, the sh-tload of picks/players/whatever they'd require back would be cost prohibitive.
  10. I get the sentiment, but I honestly wouldn't care if he was throwing tantrums like a three-year-old. He needs to go, regardless...
  11. ...with the first five coming in a game against his former coach. Stefanski knew the problem in Cleveland and schemed to minimize it. When Mayfield came here, Stefanski knew exactly how to exploit it. Unfortunately, I think that first game showed other coaches how to do it too.
  12. Somewhat. Jimmy Clausen had this "flatline" trajectory to a lot of his throws that made them easier to bat down (or intercept).
  13. Fair point, but you also have to credit Sirianni for hiring Steichen. One of the things I always do a deep dive on with potential head coaches is who their potential assistants might be. It was a big reason why I was high on Nate Hackett. He had connections through himself and his dad to build a staff of super well-established coaches. Instead, he went and hired a bunch of guys who weren't anywhere near as experienced as he could have, with more than one being completely new to their role I do give him credit for hiring a coach to help with game management. That probably required him swallowing his pride, and not too many NFL coaches are big on doing that. Granted it's still early, but that's definitely not the only thing he needs to fix.
  14. I was told we did. (you know, seven year plan and all that bullsh-t) As far as Fitterer, reporting has been that while Tepper is losing trust in head coach, he still seems to have it in his GM. Fitterer has basically been given carte blanche to reshape the Panthers personnel department as he chooses. Throw in that there's been no real indication from any of our typical inside sources that his proverbial "seat" is even warm, much less hot. If, as we all suspect, Rhule is gone then Fitter and Morgan might actually get the chance to put their own stamp on things.
  15. I think the best move they made was hiring Nick Sirianni. For all the jokes about how hoofy he looked and sounded in his early pressers and the chuckles about him using rock paper scissors to test players competitiveness, he's proving the doubters wrong so far.
  16. A little more info... Early on, Ron Rivera was able to do some similar things against Drew Brees. He schemed to block Brees throwing lanes, obstruct his vision and try to bat down as many passes as possible. It worked for, ironically enough, a very short time. Sean Payton was able to make adjustments that nullified what Rivera had been trying to do. I wouldn't bet on our current coaching staff being able to accomplish that same feat.
  17. And makes moves to buy the good faith of owner Jeffrey Lurie on a pretty regular basis. (usually by making whatever moves Lurie tells him to)
  18. Fans may not be able to agree on whether we're watching the worst Panther team, season, personnel, whatever... But I doubt you'll find much of anyone who disagrees with the idea that Matt Rhule is far and away the worst head coach the Panthers have ever had.
