I've seen both methods work. You have to go according to the situation: coach, prior starter, the team around them, and of course the player themselves. it's not a one-size-fits-all scenario.
-
Wasn't the big mistake of last year (and the year before) bringing in a veteran starter who wasn't very good?
-
Stafford was on a bad team. Mahomes was under Andy Reid. It's not going to be exclusively true, but it is true that the teams who draft those top ten guys tend to be bad, and generally long term bad
-
I was talking about his evaluation skills. Per what we saw of the offseason, McAdoo was leading the charge to draft Corral.
-
To really get the validity of that scenario though, you'd have to cross check whether the teams starting guys early are good teams or bad ones
-
Depends on whether McAdoo is really as good as some think.
-
Talk is that option is off the table. Granted that could change, but if they hang on to him long enough to see someone else lose a starter to injury, then they have the leverage again.
-
They did have a first round grade on him. (and no I don't think that's post draft bullsh-t) That, plus Fitterer talking about wanting to build around him (his ideal scenario) makes me think they do believe in him. Whether he can live up to that is yet to be seen.
-
No argument...
-
Don't believe it would be that bad, but pretty much every source says the sticking point is how much of Mayfield's salary they're willing to pay. The return doesn't seem to be an issue. That makes me think that our offer is quite possibly more than I would like.
-
Paying the same amount I could deal with. Us paying more of Darnold's salary than Cleveland pays of Mayfield's though would feel like we lost the staring contest.
-
I hope not. Not really liking the scenario John floated either, though...
-
After all the posturing, if we end up paying more of Darnold's salary than Cleveland does Mayfield, ugh
-
Again, not something I like hearing
-
Giants royally kicked out asses last season with a terrible head coach. Now they have Daboll.
-
Is Walker even going to make the roster this year? I'd like to hope the answer is no but then I remember who our coach is
-
Jonathan Jones says we've made Cleveland "the best offer". Not sure I like the sound of that.
-
They added a good DT, some defensive backs and a couple of linebackers. Also acquired a very good secondary coach and a defensive line coach who probably should have retired about 10 to 15 years ago. The coordinator is still a college guy whose schemes got easily figured out last year and he wasn't able to adjust. Improved? There's a chance but it's definitely not guaranteed.
-
General belief at least is that he's not all powerful anymore, though he still technically has final say. The most common description of the situation we've seen is that he's now listening to and deferring more to others, for what that's worth. I also think the addition of Dan Morgan makes a difference. How much will it mean if he thinks a decision will have an effect on his job? That's probably the operative question.
-
I really don't see any of that happening.
-
Know how I know you didn't watch the games? The defense last season was good for about three games, got exposed and then looked like dog sh-t for the rest of the year.
-
Was he? Henderson I'm pretty sure was Rhule because he wanted him last year Gilmore was likely an agreement.
-
Know how I know you didn't read the article? And please. I don't give a rats ass about "riling people up". That's just a fake narrative some people use to try and score debate points. Hell, I tend to put up posts without comment because I'd rather see what people think than say "These are my facts. Deal with it!"
-
That second in yards allowed stat means nothing to people who know what they're watching.
