Regarding the release... The Washington Commanders' release of defensive tackle Matt Ioannidis freed up necessary salary-cap room but angered his representatives, who said they were lied to about his status last month. Ioannidis' agent, Alan Herman, told ESPN that Washington senior vice president of football administration Rob Rogers told him the team wasn't going to release Ioannidis. "We don't particularly care to be lied to our face," Herman told The Associated Press. "That's not the way you conduct business in the National Football League." Washington announced it had released Ioannidis, as well as veteran guard Ereck Flowers and safety Deshazor Everett, as part of a series of moves that combined to create $18.9 million of cap space. The Commanders had tried to trade Ioannidis in the past week, a source told ESPN, but with him entering the final year of his contract, they were unsuccessful. The move surprised Herman. "When someone tells you two weeks ago that he's solid as a rock, would it take you by surprise?" Herman told ESPN. "Give us a heads-up; free agency is coming and we want to make sure the player lands on his feet. Granted, [general manager] Martin Mayhew called and apologized. I've dealt with Rob for years and this is the first time I've ever had a situation like this with him. Always professional." According to multiple sources, Washington's plans changed last week after the team acquired quarterback Carson Wentz and his $28 million cap hit for this season. One source also said his understanding was they were told Ioannidis was safe "at this time." "It just takes our player out of the market for three days, and that's the troubling part of this," Herman said. "If you're even thinking about doing it, then give us a heads-up so we can prepare." Defense wasn't as good as we made it out to be though. We had the personnel (mostly) but Snow's schemes got figured out early. Didn't take massive adjustments to blunt his approach either. Basically just go run heavy and keep extra blockers back on passing downs and you had us. Hoping Al Holcomb and Steve Wilks can help with that this season.

Well, after signing Ioannidis, if we turn around and add Lotulelei we're gonna have a defensive tackle rotation that nobody can spell.

So this is Ioannidis And this is Leonidas Someone should suggest to Ioannidis that if he gets a sack, a tackle for loss or any kind of big play, he should follow up by shouting "THIS IS CAROLINAAAAAA!!!"

It is, but it's occurred to me that there are ways to get around that. David Tepper would still have veto power over any move. So if he says "we do what Scott and Dan say" then Rhule has to accept it. That's not to say he's completely neutered, but maybe...restrained, or moderated.

Fitterer and Morgan's personnel moves this offseason really seem to be clicking. If we don't improve this year, you'd have a tough time blaming it on the roster. (quarterback issues outstanding, of course)

I mean, when Marty Hurney was fired, Tepper kinda hinted at maybe keeping him too long but mostly was just "Well, Matt's graduated and he's ready to take control". He doesn't seem all that keen on admitting to mistakes or failures.

Me too. Fighters and martial artists say if you're fighting someone large, attack the knees. There's a lot of weight sitting on them.

I genuinely don't get that. If you're trying to full on recruit the guy (and this basically was a recruiting trip) why wouldn't you bring along someone he knew and worked with before? Did you just trust Matt Rhule's college recruiting experience would be enough?
