Wilks/McAdoo being back as a combo is just waving the white flag and admitting you don't plan on ever improving. I can stomach Wilks to an extent but not McAdoo.

Of the candidates available, he probably has the best connections for building a staff. I think he is more likely to be able to attract coaches than Payton and any of the younger candidates.

I don't think Young wouldn't fit with Reich. He is the best pure QB of the bunch.

He was in my top three post-Johnson dropping out. I think if he can round out a good staff it is a step in the right direction. Not 100% sure he is the guy to lead us to the promised land but I am willing to let it play out.

This does lend some credence to the rumor that Steichen didn't interview well. That might be common among all the younger guys.

I think there is so much chaff being thrown out that it's hard to tell the real information from the garbage. Whether than is intentional or accidental is a mystery.

I am only okay with that if that is who Wilks wants. I keep beating this horse but if you constantly have to force coaches on your HC, that isn't the right HC.

I'd probably prefer Reich just because I want to finally break the streak of overly conservative, defensive head coaches. Very curious to see what happens and also to hear some of the behind the scenes rumors as to why we didn't prefer some of the other available options.

Yeah, the modern era of media is the rush to be first, regardless of the facts. So every unsubstantiated rumor or intentional information operation is just passed along with haste.

The truth is we the public don't know the full dynamics. I am still willing to give him an offseason with the full control that he has now. If it looks pretty similar to some of the previous offseasons....I am probably off his bandwagon forever.

I sincerely hope that isn't us. That much I know. If it is....that is a very bad sign.

I am guessing the following aren't FA available: Brady, Rodgers, Jones, Jackson, Tannehill Carr and Garoppolo will definitely be available. Lance is a maybe. Houston goes rookie. Colts are very hard to say without a coach. I tend to think rookie. Raiders will try Brady and see if that happens. I think they opt for a veteran. Falcons strike me as a rookie or veteran FA.

I am not sure there is anything clear about our direction at the moment.

Yeah if we want him and he wants to be here, it will be done before he is out of the playoffs. Like you said, it doesn't have to be official.

I don't think it will ever work by forcing coaches on a new HC. If you don't like any of their plans on filling out a staff, then that is clearly not your guy.

If we can't get Steichen....I mean....I really wouldn't be opposed to McCarthy. Sad how that turned around post-Rhule.

We had some guys pop when Rhule got canned and they got more burn but I don't think we had any real "revelation" type guys that just came in and clearly proved they should have been getting a bunch of PT. We will see what happens with the next staff. Like I said, I don't think there is anyone on this roster outside Moore that any quality starter in the league is going to look at and say to themselves, "Man, I really want to go play with this guy."

I think it may not happen the way we think. I think it may be that the teams involved just move on with their searches while Payton and his agent keep chumming the water with all this BS to try and drive up interest that may not be there. But, it might also work. Rhule snagged Tepper on some similar BS and the Giants balked at Rhule when he tried to get more.

I suspect that it doesn't actually "settle" itself until Arizona, Denver and Carolina all announce their head coaches. Then I think all the media speculation about Payton will be over. It's too juicy of a story for them not to keep egging it on.

There have been a bunch of leaks but none of them seemed particularly easy to verify. The closest we got was probably the Ben Johnson one.
