    because the players are just plastic pieces, don’t know what’s going on, and can’t tell when an organization has given up on them.

    you think that when they are in tank mode they are spending as much watching film, game planning, designing specialized practices, and otherwise preparing as they would on an expected deep playoff run? the product on the field is the result of the effort put into preparation, and they are 100% half assing that at all levels when in tank mode. this leads to poor preparation, lack of attention to detail, being out of position, reduced effort, and increasing risk of injury.

    when we are mathematically eliminated, i can understand sitting players to reduce risk of injury to key players. if you’re going to do that, put it in that context, and expect whoever does play to put 100% effort into it. telling players to half-ass it is actually increasing their risk of injury, and hurts their development
