  1. Jeremy Chinn had a great rookie season and should have had more consideration for defensive rookie of the year. That said, it seems like the Panthers would like to play him more in the box but they don't have much depth at either safety spot nor is there anyone reliable enough to make that move more permanent for Chinn. Juston Burris, Sam Franklin, Myles Hartsfield, and Kenny Robinson are all good role players but there are better options on the market. Bringing in another safety would be a huge help for not only Chinn but the defense as a whole.
  2. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/positions-carolina-panthers-improved-most-123522234.html The Panthers will resume their OTA workouts tomorrow, taking the next step towards the 2021 season. June 1 is a significant date on the NFL calendar for a number of reasons, so now’s a good time to reflect on where the team is heading into the summer months. For Carolina, this offseason has been all about upgrading a young roster with an eye on fundamentally changing how they can play defense. Here is a look at the three positions that the Panthers have improved most since last season. Cornerback Lost: Rasul Douglas, Corn Elder Gained: Jaycee Horn, Keith Taylor, Rashaan Melvin, A.J. Bouye Clearly, the No. 1 priority on general manager Scott Fitterer’s list was upgrading what was an unreliable cornerback room in 2020. No longer having Elder at nickel may sting, but only if they don’t use their personnel right. After investing significant resources at the position, there’s more than enough firepower to go around, here. In free agency, the Panthers picked up Bouye and Melvin – two solid veterans who may be past their prime but came on cheap, short-term deals. In the draft, Carolina added two rookies with Horn and Taylor – both long, physical, lanky Seattle type corners who can press. If the plan is to start Horn and Bouye outside and slide Donte Jackson inside to cover the slot there’s a real chance this cornerback group could go from liability to strength. Putting that group out there together should enable defensive coordinator Phil Snow to be far more aggressive using man coverage following a zone-heavy 2020 campaign. Linebacker Lost: Tahir Whitehead, Adarius Taylor Gained: Denzel Perryman, Haason Reddick, Frankie Luvu, Paddy Fisher Another spot that got a nice boost was linebacker – both the inside and outside versions. Going from Whitehead as the starting Mike to Perryman might be the single-most impactful move the team makes this year defensively. At the very least, Perryman is a far more efficient tackler and light years ahead in coverage. If things don’t work out with Perryman or he gets injured again, they still have an excellent backup in Jermaine Carter. Outside, the Panthers helped their pass rush by signing Reddick – who posted 12.5 sacks and 16 QB hits last season after moving out to the edge in Arizona. If he comes anywhere close to repeating those numbers, the one-year, $6 milllion deal he signed for will be a steal. Tight end Lost: Chris Manhertz Gained: Dan Arnold, Tommy Tremble Offensively, the Panthers made huge changes at quarterback, left tackle and wide receiver, but it remains to be seen if those moves have actually made them better. That said, on paper it’s pretty clear that Carolina is deeper at tight end compared to last year. Manhertz may be one of the best blocking tight ends in the NFL. However, he’ll turn 30 in a couple weeks and most likely won’t be effective much longer. The Panthers should get an effective replacement with Tremble, who has been dubbed the best blocking tight end in college football. If he lives up to that billing, Manhertz won’t be missed. Like the Reddick acquisition, signing Arnold for two years and $6 million could be another significant under-the-radar steal in free agency. Arnold posted four touchdowns and 438 yards for the Cards last year. Similar production would be a step up compared to what the Panthers have gotten from this spot since Greg Olsen’s foot injuries began in 2017.
  3. I gave you a couple of pies that should balance out the ill mannered poo.
  4. The fact that Steve Smith, who is not known to freely hand out compliments, raved on about about DJ's skill set and high potential upside was enough to win me over and sell me on DJ.
  5. "If he avoids mistakes and takes advantage of a far-superior receiver corps, Panthers QB Sam Darnold has a chance to go from being a fringe starter to a top-15 QB". I think all of us can agree that we will be pulling for Sam Darnold to show he is the type of elite NFL QB the Panthers need become a play off caliber team.
  6. After catching a couple of passes in his late-season cameo, TE Dan Arnold made a huge leap last season, with 31 catches for 438 yards (14.1 yards per catch), and four touchdowns.
  7. Definitely got chills from watching this! The confidence Matt, Scott and Tepper showed in the war room is awesome! That this confidence was shown is contagious! Listen to the guys they drafted and picked up, even Sam! For them to be the best version of themselves they need that confidence and Carolina Panthers are doing it! Gotta love it!
  8. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/watch-panthers-inside-look-dan-211451823.html Watch: Panthers give an inside look at Dan Arnold negotiations Carolina Panthers If nothing else, the Carolina Panthers lead the NFL in good content. They’re the online gift to football fans that keeps on giving and continued to do so on Sunday. As a bonus treat off the release of their “Panthers Confidential” feature, the team’s social media squad posted an intriguing look into the start of Carolina’s free-agent negotiations for tight end Dan Arnold. The clip shows Panthers director of player negotiations and salary cap manager Samir Suleiman take an early price check with Arnold’s agent, Erik Burkhardt, as general manager Scott Fitterer looks on. Despite Suleiman’s insistence that he wouldn’t be willing to move off his initial two-year, $4 million offer, Arnold ended up landing a two-year, $6 million contract back on March 19. The deal guaranteed the 26-year-old $4.5 million, more than the Panthers’ first number entirely, with a $2.54 million signing bonus.
  9. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/8-carolina-panthers-could-poised-141702897.html The Panthers are a very young team, so another year of growth could lead to some serious improvement. Here are eight individuals who could be poised for a breakout year for one reason or another.
  10. I am somewhat concerned, like many others about the amount of work CMC gets. However, I think the reason the backfield got so much work was because Rhule/Brady didn’t have the dynamic QB play they were looking for. If Darnold can ball out, maybe the backfield touches slide a little in favor of WRs and TEs, then Chubba can get some touches, even with a healthy CMC.
  11. Teddy Bridgewaters clear lack of conviction to get it done with the game on the line was glaring. This was matched by a concerning regression down the stretch that eventually saw the Panthers put him out of his misery by the benching in Week 17 against the Saints. Could the coaching staff have done more? Probably. And they no doubt will with a little more experience under their belts. They are one year into coaching in the NFL and mistakes were undoubtedly made. But if Bridgewater is as smart as i think he is he will not blame others for his own failings.
  12. One of the best ways Sam Darnold can succeed with the Panthers this season is if his offensive line lives up to their end of the bargain. If the Panthers offensive line falls flat on its face, then it could be some sort of a disaster for Darnold. He is probably low on confidence following his time with the Jets and if he goes through some early jitters, things might turn ugly. However, if the Panthers get themselves a strong foundation and allow Darnold more of a chance to go through his progressions than he ever had in New York, then I can see him having a good year and living up to his # 3 overall draft pick potential.
  13. How much is the subscription after the $1 a month for 6 months?
  14. "The best thing that Brady can do is create easy throws for Darnold, which should be quite easy. All-world tailback Christian McCaffrey, provided he stays healthy, can put up 100 receptions in a season, especially with a 17th game added to the schedule." "Combine McCaffrey’s unique receiving ability with the likes of DJ Moore, Robby Anderson and rookie Terrace Marshall Jr. at wide receiver, and the Panthers have a formidable set of weapons on paper."
  15. To me personally, the Falcons just down the road in Atlanta are our biggest rivals. I have often traveled to Atlanta for the Panthers vs Falcons games and come away with a feeling of sadness and remorse. Please watch the video and notice how unselfishly Cam, gives up his body attempting to make a first down.
  16. The fact that Grier was inactive for nine of the final eleven games of the 2020 season seems to be a good indicator that he has some work to do in order to leapfrog P.J. Walker for the No. 2 spot. With OTAs beginning, Grier will need to make the most out of every single rep he gets.
  17. Sam Darnold has yet to be protected by a competent offensive line, he has yet to throw a single pass to a true # 1 receiver, and the Jets never paired him with a coach or an offensive coordinator who had been able to build an offense around his strengths. The mistakes started with Todd Bowles, who entrusted Jeremy Bates as the offensive coordinator to develop Darnold. They continued with Mike Maccagnan, who never made building an offensive line a priority, whiffed on landing him a big-time weapon with the disastrous signing of Le’Veon Bell, and recommended hiring coach Adam Gase. The Jets let his favorite weapon, Robby Anderson, leave for a reasonable price. And Gase, in 22 games as head coach never showed even a tiny sign that he made Darnold better with his offensive schemes. And of course, CEO Christopher Johnson oversaw the team through all of it and allowed it to happen. Darnold took the playing field at that critical juncture in his career with so little talent around him that it makes it difficult to evaluate him properly.
  18. The Falcons likely don't feel that converting a portion of Jones' 2021 salary into signing bonus before a trade to lessen the cap hit for the acquiring team like the Panthers did with Teddy Bridgewater is warranted given their own cap problems. Obviously, teams could create cap room by restructuring contracts in order to be in position to handle Jones' 2021 salary.
  19. Carolina Hurricanes will defeat the Nashville Predators. Count on it.
  20. It is hard to envisage a scenario where the Panthers would be better off without Anderson next season. His previous relationship with QB Sam Darnold will be crucial in Darnolds pursuit of proving his doubters wrong, so even though he might leave for nothing next spring it would be wise to keep him on the roster to assist with this transition, at the very least.
  21. Brady Christensen showcased his athleticism at his Pro Day. His 10-4 broad jump is an all-time mark for offensive tackles. He added to that with 30 reps on the bench, a 34″ vertical jump and a 4.89 40-yard dash. The Panthers need athleticism and versatility along the offensive line and that’s exactly what Christensen will bring.
