  1. Luke Patterson @LukePattersonLP “I really think most teams are interested in Bridgewater if #Carolina releases him. The Broncos would be interested in Bridgewater competing with Drew Lock. Either Carolina has to pay some sort of guarantee, or release him.” .
  2. https://thespun.com/nfl/nfc-south/carolina-panthers/there-appear-to-be-2-favorites-to-land-teddy-bridgewater CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA - AUGUST 24: Teddy Bridgewater #5 of the Carolina Panthers walks to a new drill during a training camp session at Bank of America Stadium on August 24, 2020 in Charlotte, North Carolina. (Photo by Grant Halverson/Getty Images) Teddy Bridgewater could be on the move fairly soon, as the Carolina Panthers have already granted him permission to seek a trade partner. Bridgewater signed a three-year, $63 million deal with the Panthers last offseason. He didn’t really live up to that contract, which is why Carolina went out and acquired Sam Darnold this week in a blockbuster trade with the New York Jets. Now that Darnold is the projected starter for the Panthers, rumors are swirling about Bridgewater’s future. In fact, the betting odds have just been released for his next destination. As of this moment, the Denver Broncos and Houston Texans are toward the top of the list for Bridgewater. Neither team, however, has better odds than the Panthers. Here are the current odds for the Broncos and Texans: Denver Broncos (+250) Houston Texans (+350) Denver makes a lot of sense considering the front office actually checked in on Bridgewater’s availability earlier this offseason. “Their new general manager, George Paton, was part of the front office in Minnesota that drafted Teddy Bridgewater,” NFL Network insider James Palmer said on NFL Now. “After they missed out on Matthew Stafford, they showed some interest in Bridgewater. My thought would be at the cap number he’s at right now, they’d like that to be different if they’re going to pursue Bridgewater.” Houston, meanwhile, already has a veteran quarterback in Tyrod Taylor. On the other hand, the uncertainty surrounding Deshaun Watson’s situation might influence the front office to go out and acquire another proven quarterback. Where do you think Bridgewater will land this offseason?
  3. https://www.profootballnetwork.com/top-9-offensive-tackles-2021-nfl-draft/ I want a Left Tackle selected with our #8 draft choice. This is an interesting article rating the top 9 offensive tackles in the draft. They had Christian Darrisaw North Virginia Teck as the # 2 rated offensive tackle and Rashawn Slater North Western # 3. I wonder how the Panthers Staff have them rated, since most of us think Rashawn Slater should be rated # 2.
  4. It is going to take a brave team to pass on Sewell with a need at the position. Realistically speaking, Sewell shouldn’t make it out of the top-five. If he somehow makes it past the Bengals at No. 5, then the Panthers would be in-play.
  5. Teams that constantly recycle quarterbacks are often teams that draft bad or hire poor coaches. That is why the grass is greener, quarterback recycle doesn't always work .
  6. https://twitter.com/CatCraveBlog/status/1379415196586934273/photo/1 Robby Anderson on @gmfb Talking Sam Darnold. “I was surprised when they trade was announced. I had some great chemistry with Sam and think his development was not correct with the Jets. Didn’t have the best coaching or supporting cast.”
  7. Fitterer said he talked to Bridgewater and his representatives but was careful not to rule out the possibility of last year's starter staying here in some role. This is where you have to point out that everything is always on the table — "In on every deal" means "In on every deal" — but Fitterer alluded to the possibility of a contract adjustment or a trade, as well. "I think there's things we have to work through, obviously," Fitterer said. "And I've already talked to Teddy's agents. We're going to find the right place, whether it's here or wherever it may be, we'll figure things out, contract-wise as well."
  8. Allowing Bridgewater's representatives to reach out to other teams regarding a trade could help bridge the gap where contract issues are concerned. There aren't any logical landing spots for Bridgewater where he'd be considered a sure-fire starter, but teams like Denver could use veteran options to compete. The Broncos want competition for Drew Lock, and new GM George Paton knows Bridgewater from their time together in Minnesota. The Panthers have insisted that they can still bring Bridgewater back this season, even with Darnold in-house. The truth is Matt Rhule has been looking to move on from the incumbent since the end of the season. If a trade can't get worked out, the Panthers could cut the 28-year-old QB and allow him the freedom to select his next destination without Carolina recouping any compensation.
  9. https://walterfootball.com/scoutingreport2018SDarnold.php Sam Darnold Scouting Report By Charlie Campbell Strengths: Naturally accurate passer Fits passes into tight windows Excellnt ball placement Throws a catchable ball Pocket presence Has poise Advanced anticipation; instinctive thrower Throws with good timing Can accelerate his throwing motion Quality arm strength Pushed team to wins Good internal clock Mobility Throws very well on the run Throws accurately off platform Displays some feel in the pocket Not easy to sack Can hurt defenses on the ground Can make all the throws required Can pick up yards on the ground Threads passes into tight windows Throws receivers open Can beat good coverage with his arm and accuracy Potential for good field vision Can move eyes through progressions Smooth, natural passer Instincts Stands tall in the pocket Throws knowing he is going get hit Impressive precision Great fit for a west coast offense Good footwork Good ball placement and timing to lead receivers for yards after the catch Excellent intangibles Smart Good worker Good teammate Upsiide Weaknesses: Ball security Too many interceptions Too many fumbles Had some confidence issues in 2017 Doesn't secure the ball well when getting sacked Good enough not doesn't have elite arm strength Throwing mechanics are a bit unorthodox Needs to start games faster Summary: Darnold took college football by storm during the 2016 season, and even though he wasn't eligible for the 2017 NFL Draft, the redshirt freshman had scouts buzzing about his pro potential. After a 1-2 start to the 2016 season for USC, Darnold was made the starting quarterback. For his debut season, he was an extremely efficient passer who led the Trojans to a 10-3 record. Darnold lost his first-ever start against a good Utah team, but after that he led his team to ripping off a nine-game win streak to close out the year, including impressive wins over Colorado, Washington, and a comeback Rose Bowl win over Penn State. Darnold completed 67 percent of his passes in 2016 for 3,086 yards with 31 touchdowns and nine interceptions. The 2017 season was more of a mixed bag for Darnold. The redshirt sophomore completed 63 percent of his passes for 4,143 yards with 26 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He had an up-and-down season with too many turnovers - fumbles were a particular issue beyond the interceptions. Darnold also made some beautiful anticipatory throws with excellent accuracy in just about every game. There is a lot to like about Darnold as a future starter in the NFL. First and foremost, he is an accurate pocket passer who throws with good ball placement and is very precise in the short to intermediate part of the field. Darnold has excellent anticipation to know when and where receivers are going open. With his feel and timing, Darnold hits receivers on the run, leading them to picking up yards after the catch. He also regularly will throw receivers open and help them to find space to beat tight coverage. Darnold is a natural rhythm thrower who would fit best in a West Coast system to maximize his ability to throw accurately in the short to intermediate part of the field. He is a smooth precision passer who can be deadly when he gets into a good groove. Darnold is comfortable in the pocket, but also has the ability to move around to buy time. While he is not a running quarterback, he is functional to avoid sacks and will move around to help his offensive line and receivers. Darnold made a number of really nice plays during the past two years when things went off script as he got creative to move the ball for his offense. Routinely, Darnold would buy time with his feet and then make an accurate throw downfield with the rush closing in on him. Regularly, Darnold displayed good poise to keep plays alive. In every game at USC, Darnold would make some impressive throws that were very rare for a college quarterback. Darnold's throwing motion is a bit unorthodox, but it isn't a serious concern. One general manager who has scouted quarterbacks extremely well in his career told me that they didn't think there was anything wrong with Darnold's mechanics or arm strength. That general manager said with his throwing motion and arm strength, Darnold is similar to Philip Rivers. Darnold has a good build with size and athleticism for the pro game. A rare trait that Darnold possess is the ability to accelerate his throwing motion to get the ball out when he's under pressure. There are plenty of NFL starters who haven't developed the ability to speed up their throwing motions, so Darnold's skill there is impressive. The negatives with Darnold are well known. His ball security in 2017 was poor, including both issues with fumbles and throwing too many interceptions. He admitted to having some confidence issues in the early portion of the 2017 season, but that seemed to be rectified during the year. There were plays on which Darnold showed good field vision to work through progressions, but eye movement was an issue on some of his interceptions. Thus, he needs to get more consistent there, and pro coaching could help him with that. Of the top quarterback prospects for the 2018 NFL Draft, Darnold has the best intangibles and the most "it factor." There is no doubt that Darnold has a lot of moxie. He is a gamer who doesn't quit and pushed his team to wins. Darnold is said to have very good intangibles off the field and football character with leadership. Sources from a variety of NFL teams have spoken positively about him in that regard. Darnold isn't loudest player or a huge "rah-rah" kind of quarterback, but he has a calm presence that leads by example. In speaking to two general managers of quarterback-needy teams, they felt that Darnold was worthy of being a high first-round pick and franchise quarterback. Over the evolution of the draft process, Darnold is the consensus top quarterback and is the favorite to be the No. 1 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Player Comparison: Philip Rivers. There are a lot of similarities between Darnold and Rivers. They have similar builds with hitches in their throwing motions that make them a bit unorthodox. Both are pocket passers who throw the ball accurately with timing and precision. Both also are known to be good leaders, workers and teammates. One difference is in their styles of leadership; Rivers is more loud and vocal whereas Darnold is quieter. Still, their playing styles are similar and both have excellent intangibles, but of a different nature. Rivers was a top-five pick in the 2004 NFL Draft, and Darnold could easily be a top-five pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. NFL Matches: Cleveland, New York Giants, New York Jets, Denver and Buffalo There are a lot of quarterback-needy teams in the NFL, and Darnold should be gone quickly in the top-four picks. The Browns need a franchise quarterback, and Darnold is a favorite to be their selection with the No. 1-overall pick. If Cleveland passes on Darnold, the Giants could be a fit for Darnold with the No. 2-overall pick. They could use a young franchise quarterback with Eli Manning aging. Staying in New York, the Jets traded up in the first round to get a franchise quarterback, and Darnold would be a no-brainer pick for them if he gets to the No. 3 spot. The Broncos and Bills are also in the market for a franchise quarterback, but they will have to trade up to land Darnold and it isn't clear that either the Giants at No. 2 or the Browns at No.4 are interested in trading down from those spots.
  10. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/panthers-allowing-teddy-bridgewater-seek-131228497.html Teddy Bridgewater will be allowed to seek a trade following the Panthers’ deal to bring in Jets quarterback Sam Darnold, according to a report by Ian Rapoport at NFL Network. Finding a willing trade partner won’t be easy. Bridgewater is coming off a disappointing 2020 season that saw him post more turnovers than touchdown passes. He also has a cap hit this year of around $23 million, the highest on the team. The trouble is there may only be a handful of teams who think Bridgewater would be an upgrade over their current starters. The Broncos, Bears and Giants come to mind, to name a few. Hopefully Bridgewater lands on his feet and gets another opportunity to start, but it seems like a long shot at this point.
  11. I agree MHS831. I can always count on you to be a voice of reason with well thought out, researched responses.
  12. I like the fact QB Sam Darnold was traded to us for a 2021 sixth-round pick and second- and fourth-round picks in 2022. I feel Darnold has a great upside if we surround him with good players obtained in the draft and wise trades. Hopefully, this puts and end to the wild talk of trading the farm for another teams disgruntled QB or taking a chance on a QB in the draft that may be good or may bum out. At least we know what we are getting in Darnold, who was a QB that everyone had high expectations for when he was drafted but had the misfortune to play for a sorry team that certainly hurt his chances to excel.
  13. I would love for us to obtain the Jags Gardner Minshew, who i feel could be gotten at a reasonable price. In 21 games, 19 starts, playing for a horrible team, Minshew completed 461 out of 737 (62.6%) of his passes for 5,126 yards, 34 touchdowns and 11 interception. I believe at best would be a very good starter and worst case a top rated backup.
  14. There is no way I want us to waste a roster spot on the aged, injury prone, Short, who would be nothing more than a no show player taking up a much needed roster spot in the long run.
  15. If all four top rated quarterbacks are gone when we pick at # 8, I would like to see us draft TE Pitts (if still undrafted), the best OT or CB. Then try to obtain the Jags Gardner Minshew, who i feel is a good starting quarterback and surround him with better players. This would solve our quarterback problem for many years.
  16. I would love to have the Jaguars, Gardner Minshew on our team for the right price . I feel he has the most upside of any QB we would be able to obtain.
  17. Now that is funny. I suppose it never hurts to give yourself a nick name you like.
  18. Seems the Panthers are becoming a feeder team for Washington and Buffalo.
  19. Atlanta got a good deal by signing Mike Davis for 2 years at $5.5M. I would not be surprised for him to have some career high games against us this year.
  20. “I don’t think it would be a reach to get him at eight. It’s hard to argue that there was a better quarterback in the country in 2020. Along with being a Heisman Trophy finalist, Jones led the country with 4,500 passing yards. He was also deadly accurate. He completed 77.4% of his passes, also No. 1 in the country, and was second in the country with 41 passing touchdowns with only four interceptions. He did all of this in 13 games. The Panthers will enter the draft already having some familiarity with Jones. Jones, who is 6-foot-3 and 213 pounds, was a participant in the Senior Bowl last month, and practiced under the Panthers’ coaching staff. The Panthers staff got a chance to talk to Jones and see him up close and, apparently, Panthers coach Matt Rhule liked what he saw. “He processes information quickly, highly intelligent, he’s an alpha,” Rhule told reporters. “He’s the first guy on the practice field, he’s the first guy in the runnings, so he’s got a lot of really, really, really strong traits.” The general consensus among draft experts and scouts is that there are five quarterbacks worthy of a first-round selection. Jones is one of them.
  21. Samuel Darnold was selected third overall by the Jets in the 2018 NFL Draft for a reason. I would be all in for obtaining him if he could be gotten for a third or fourth round draft choice. Playing for a Panthers team that would be an upgrade over his present Jets team should allow him to further reach his upside potential .
  22. There is no way i would touch Wilson if i were an NFL G.M.. If he hasn't learned his lesson by now, after being given all these chances, he probably never will.
  23. One of the Panthers’ key positional deficits last season was a tight end that could convert first downs and be a reliable target. Arnold a former wide receiver will provide that. The tight end room now includes Arnold, Ian Thomas, Colin Thompson, and Sullivan. The signing is another example of an investment in a lower tier player for a reasonable price. It should not preclude the Panthers from continuing to address the position, especially through the draft.
  24. I did not want to give up players and draft picks that would gut our team, even before these current allegations were brought forth. These current allegations, if true, only add icing to the cake.
