Panthers Select Xavier Legette WR - Pick 32, Round 1
CRA replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
Canales also didn’t draft the anomaly QB. I wanted Leggette and at the same time I don’t think he is a great pairing for Bryce. Outside of the old college try because he has to this year….Canales shouldn’t be overly tied to Bryce and I don’t think should be pigeon holed into building a team/future that caters to a guy he didn’t draft. -
yeah, I think that side sort of emerged at the end of the prior year too and just stuck. The Gamecock game specifically. Didn't he have to apologize for saying too much after Dabo botched that one on trick plays, abandoning a run they couldn't stop and stuff? But I mean, I think he was right. Not that you want your player saying the correct thing publicly lol. Think he just got frustrated Clemson could of won more games than they did....if it was just about that and not trying to develop DJ and then Cade. I mean, I do think running and grinding out Shipley/the ground game and playing D....probably could of won some of those losses. and that CJ Spiller incident on the sideline is a legit dislike moment this past year. And I largely ding most guys hard for those type things. Which I probably give him a pass on. end of the day, I just want a natural pass catcher in the backfield and to round out the backfield better. I forget about Trotter in this draft. I do think if a Tiger is signed, it's a front 7 guy. Just like fearing them overdrafting Shipley. Part of me worries about Ruke. Who they must like to some extent.

Panthers Select Xavier Legette WR - Pick 32, Round 1

this was the talk going into last year. Health was deemed the hindrance to his career, not ability. I think it's safe to say just watching him here, and the college numbers do back it.....the deep ball isn't really Bryce's bread and butter/game. Assuming he’s healthy, Chark should perfectly complement Thielen’s short-to-intermediate profile. At 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds, Chark is a burner and a ball-winner. -
I still don't get why such a heavy % of the board isn't on board w/ the pass catching RB need. And how a pass catching RB is much different than just throwing to a RB that isn't one.
-
well, I didn't feel we catered to his uniqueness going into last season at all. And it went horrifically. I largely feel the same way. BUT, I'm not sure I want us investing into his uniqueness heavily at this point. We should just be adding pure talent at his point. I think we move on from Bryce in the near future. I mean, I love Leggette's potential. I wanted us to draft him. I think Leggette frankly would pair up better with a Jake Delhomme style QB than a Bryce Young.
-
yeah, anything is possible, I'm laying the odds as of right now on Johnson. I think he trends more as a one year guy than anything. I guess that's my issue on Canales and Bryce and the Panthers overall. I think if you are just going to do what Canales did in Tampa and insert Bryce? Just call it a wrap. Bryce is such an anomaly at QB he needs a unique Bryce centric O. I mean, we saw the insert Bryce into what I do approach last year. It was a trainwreck.

I can get down wtih this one. I think Atl helped the Raiders have a good draft. Not that I don't like Penix, but I think them landing Brock is better for them than if they had gotten Penix. And I think they were the team most thought might get squirrely and take him
-
I'm not sure the intention when things started was for Theilen to be the end all be all of our pass game. I think that organically came about when Bryce and the O simply couldn't really make plays to the outside. I still worry that's largely going to be the same thing. Outside of having Johnson running slants. I'm not confident Bryce Young is going to be able to take advantage or maximize whatever we put on the outside.

I could see Ruke or Xavier being possibilities this year. Top 30 visits. Seems this group looked at Clemson more so than past regimes. Not that I really want that to happen. I think the last time I legitimately wanted them to draft a Tiger was Nuk. I'm also curious if they end up doubling down on the local products. XL checks the box. They brought Wilson, Walker, a bunch of Clemson guys in. Who knows. I would like Shipley in the 4th. But I strongly want them to draft a RB that isn't an early down runner and can be part of the pass game.

I mean, I think at this point, we are creating a version of Tepper that isn't actually real. I mean, I meet Tepper once for all of 2 seconds. And it happened to be at a sports bar before a game. I think thats actually something he attempts to do. Pop in to Panther-ish bars from time to time. Attempt to come off as friendly owner.
-
There is reporting also from news folks that employees reported that Tepper was actually in good spirits and went in to make friendly jokes about it all.....and asked the bar owner who they should take. Who turned out not even be a Panther fan.

drastically? I wouldn't say that. Johnson IMO is a one year rental. Leggette IMO is now the best long term hopeful. But I still think for Bryce Young, RB, TE and the slot trio is the bread and butter pass game for him to succeed and we haven't improved there at all.
-
sadly, I think if we do land a Clemson Tiger it won't be Shipley. I think it's one of the DT/DE Tigers. We brought 2 in for top 30s visits. And in that case, you would prefer Ruke over Xavier with rounds not factoring.
-
Shipley in the 4th is good though. But I think someone likely could grab him in the 3rd. Shipley IMO is the best actual all around RB in the draft. But still just a committee RB at the end of the day. but Shipley 1000% fits the dog mentality Morgan talks about. He takes winning and football as serious as it gets.
-
I don't like Ship in the 3rd, but if Bryce Young is ever going to himself....you got to start adding players that match his style of play. Throwing to Hubbard and Sanders doesn't make them rec backs. I'd LOVE Shipley in the 4th. You actually have to DRAFT RBs to build your team properly. Because you shouldn't be signing these FAs. And every RB on the roster should be gone after this year. I think the ideal Panthers vision is some variation of the following based on their top 30 visits, pro days, etc. Leggete - done Wilson Rice/Walker RB/OT/DT/DE in some order

Panthers Select Xavier Legette WR - Pick 32, Round 1

as Leggette "fan"....the only negative I think really applies to the pick outside of maybe ideally drafting him slightly later is Bryce Young is our QB. And I think Leggette pairs better with a big arm that gambles. Not sure Bryce is really the type thrower that can get the most out of Leggette. -

Cam Newton was essentially a one year wonder SEC player and we took him #1 overall. I mean, I get he had a season at junior college. But no one has ever factored that before for other players as meaning that much. -
Only top 30 visit out those guys was Payton Wilson I think. think you might have to out him as the favorite target on that list I’d say Walker and Rice would be the 2 favorites in the 3rd round too. Carolina could have a real Carolina draft.
-
I want the WR double dip. I think if it comes it comes with the 3rd round pick

Anyone comparing Mingo and XL IMO hasn’t really watched a lot of the two. They just aren’t comps. XL doesn’t play like Mingo -

I mean, I’m a Clemson fan. Hating on the Gamecocks is my jam. Leggette is the type dude you take a shot at. He ain’t Mingo. All Carolina has to do is keep him trending in the direction he is going -

I mean Leggette has a crazy high ceiling. what did you want Leggette to do in that offense when they were playing grad coaches at QB or WRs? The minute they got a somewhat decent QB he started to shine and make massive growth strides. I feel better about XL than Mingo. But I think Ladd was the best pairing for checkdown Young -
We’ve always had them. We draft a Gamecock every other year.
-
What did it cost to get the guy that was going to be there at 33? but to those that weren’t thrilled about Leggette. All it will take is his opening presser and you will buy in. He is the type you want to root for and be here I still think Ladd/Mitchell at 33 and the double dip to Leggette at 39 was the ideal play to aim for.
-
I would assume the cost of that 5th year option isn’t dirt cheap
