I mean, there was legit reporting the Panthers were doing a lot of work behind the scenes to make sure they weren't even rejected for interview requests. Carolina seems in total damage control. Interviews often serve tons of purposes. You could probably reasonably argue some rolled in here with no real intent on taking it. It's interview practice for some. League folks have talked about that for awhile. It's some simply not wanting to turn down an offer. For some it may be trying to leverage other jobs and get them to make a move. I mean, we know that type bologna all happens. Did it happen here? who knows. This is offseason imagination time. You can think up all sorts of stuff that could be plausible. I mean, maybe they didn't offer jobs to certain people because they knew the answer. Maybe they found out the real answer before an offer. I think Dan Morgan job is the best indicator that Carolina didn't have TONS of options in reality. Given the search firm talk and ending up doing that in the end.

I would imagine they have already been there and done that. That's why he still isn't sign. I mean, we know they have made a bunch of offers. They started last summer. And you can't keep offering a dude more that did less and less last year.

I mean, letting Burns walk has been talked about here. Heck, realistically it became a path when he went into the past season. if you don't want to overpay him, that's sort of that. tag and trades aren't actually that common and if you just tag a dude that doesn't want to play, that's it own nightmare. especially for a new HC trying to build a new culture here out of the rubble. *and obviously better players than Burns have walked out of here.

Division Talk: Falcons are heavy favorites to land Justin Fields
CRA replied to WarPanthers89's topic in Carolina Panthers
in 2022 Fields set the #2 all time mark for rushing yards by a QB. Fields was still offering something. and people called the cast around Bryce Young the BEST one assembled in a long time. Until Bryce couldn't do anything with any of it. People were never praising Field's entering 2022. Bryce Young was really bad. No point trying to compare him to better players that disappointed. It's always just going to end up highlighting how awful Bryce Young and we were. -
Division Talk: Falcons are heavy favorites to land Justin Fields

in his first 15 games Bryce Young never once showed a glimmer of being special. and that's not true of Fields. these 2 things are not the same. Fields is his own unique quagmire. -
I don't buy that. I mean, Tepper hired them to have their own input....but Tepper also had a team working on the hires. They were just a voice. So was Dave, Nicole, Jim FREAKING Caldwell which I still can't get over.... But there is no way I believe an outside firm searched the world over and said we found the guy Mr. Tepper you need to hire. He was right here in house and part of your team that was making all these bad moves that lead to you being he worst professional team in all of sports....and they went with that and that alone. That was Dave, Nicole and Jim Caldwell hiring the GM.
-
well, not really that. But it's hard to imagine Morgan surviving in Tepperland if he was voice consistently going in a different direction. Because Tepper reportedly has targeted those types. So you go to think Morgan was part of some of at least some of these bad ideas. Who knows exactly which ones. But if him and Fitt were in sync....that's probably not great.

I was just highlighting pre-lockout talk Hurney. That tiny window. I thought that was pretty dang good. Post lockout talk Hurney was always more bad than good stuff. but there was a window where I thought his drafting, FA moves/attempts and no contract messes were pretty dang solid. Then came lockout talk and Mr. Look at this pie chart Jerry and it was all downhill for Hurney for whatever reason.

Panthers building new training facilities

i was thinking of him pulling out of the eastland project. I really don't follow all the ends and outs of his soccer stuff. -
Panthers building new training facilities
CRA replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
when has anything Tepper claimed he was building (football or soccer).....gone as he initially said? it probably will end up being a rectangle of broken glass and legos that people can walk on with a giant magnifying glass above it to fry people in the heat. -
I personally think the best GMing in Carolina was pre lockout talk Marty Hurney. Then Jerry IMO made him fug up contracts and Marty never recovered as a GM. Got worse and worse. Maybe he was always going to struggle there and the lockout talk, Jerry directions, etc didn't matter, and his path was always going to be his path. But I always wonder about that. none of that is relevant. But it's just a lingering thought not worthy of putting anywhere else.

8 years vs 3. Morgan's career and advancement in a front office was Seattle. Seattle is also where he really saw an organization thrive and reach NFL heights. Fitterer also talked about it a lot. Maybe Dan will be great. Maybe being not paired w/ Fitterer will make a huge difference. I need some proof in the pudding though for a start fanboying this move. I think the Seattle influence in our front office has lead to a lot of mistakes. And you are right, they got lucky with Wilson. They also got lucky with there big physical corners. Richard Sherman wasn't a top 10 pick on a team that had nothing.
-
all guess work. my concern remains the common theme. The Seattle mindset and focus. I think our wannabe Seattle blueprint front office folks have botched this. Sadly, that's going to include Morgan. Morgan is a real football player. But Morgan, the front office guy and build a team guy, was largely molded in Seattle. from day 1, I think our first big move and our last big move.....was the Seattle dream clouding judgement. Jaycee Horn on a team that had nothing and needed to rebuild....and the farm for Bryce Young.

see, I don't agree there. There isn't much of an argument for Matt Rhule being all powerful and getting de facto GM his last season either. He was a dead man walking in reality. That's why he was fired a couple weeks into the season and even during that offseason had been intentionally put on the back burner. Matt Rhule had a line buried in a contract and people IMO ran way too far with it. Some of the bad moves during the Rhule era where Matt Rhule influenced bad moves. Some of the bad moves were just Fitt and company being just as bad at it. I'm not down w/ using Matt Rhule as the catch all fall guy for where we are today. It was also the front office. Fitterer and his team.

Panthers building new training facilities

It’s billed as a multi purpose facility. So they can have training camp there but a whole bunch of other events too. So they 100% ain’t practicing on grass. -

I don't see Atl giving up a 1st for Fields. I think a team ends up getting a good deal on him in terms of a trade.... considering everyone will know Chicago has to get rid of him and then you have to pay him. -
I've efficiently done Dan Morgan's job for him. Goal 1 - right a horrific and shameful wrong of the past 4 times over Goal 2 - looked forward to our 2025 rebuild for when we look to build around our 1st round pick in the 2025 draft.

I read that it was done between Aug-Nov of 2023. Which, Frank probably came off very well to guys that lived through the Rhule joke era. So that means the polling also took place before they actually got a taste of Frank the real NFL Panther HC. Don't even know if a game was played during that quirky window.
