David Tepper is still here. Fitterer is still here. Front office is largely still intact. One that has repeatedly done very stupid things. Are they all suddenly cured simply because they hired a new HC? Going out and throwing cash at a bunch of the best names available for your coaching staff....doesn't mean everyone in Charlotte is cured from doing dumb things. I mean, this is basically the same repeated narrative that always gets applied for every coach and new era. Including the really bad ones. NFL folks do dumb stuff. We have seen that repeatedly here and all over the league. This whole don't dare question a profession that constantly employees people from top to bottom that does dumb stuff is old. I'll judge the new era based on what they do at QB. Until then, jury remains out.

Taysom Hill and Blaine Gabbert had the best QB ratings in the NFL last year you generally won't find them or Sam Darnold listed and tracked on most sites because he and they didn't play enough. And when you barely play, the results get skewed significantly vs the field. So they exclude them from even showing because of that. You don't ignore it. You also can't take a number like that a face value.

Cool. I notice you opted to not respond to the 2 stats I shared that countered your obviously flawed analysis that Sam Darnold was vastly improved in 2022. Sam Darnold had a window with an improved TD and INT %. That's it. That's the only argument. And it requires you to ignore everything else. Outside of that he wasn't even accounting for average offensive production for a NFL QB. Not yards. Not passing TDs. He was accountable for below average offensive production. Then on top of that lower-than-average offensive production, he had a lower completion % and was putting the ball on the ground at a higher rate (even for Sam who has been horrific at that his entire career dating back to college). Sam Darnold is a bad QB. If knowledgeable observers think Sam Darnold is a good QB? Or that he showed real growth? Well, I'll let that statement speak for itself. Pretty sure last offseason we went at it too. You were on your soapbox claiming superior knowledge as I called out what was obviously going to happen with the pairing of Matt Rhule and Ben McAdoo. And it went exactly as I called it. Now, me saying Sam Darnold is bad and calling the 2022 Matt Rhule correctly doesn't actually make me smart. It just means I can see and state the obvious. and I was right in 2021 too when folks were pimping Sam after a couple games. It was fools gold then too. Bad Sam was clearly still there. Even old Jet fanboys like Mike Greenburg could see it. They tried to warn folks. And people were arguing the same thing you are now.

Jacoby seems like the most logical choice. He offers something to a draft pick and Corral. He knows the O. Also, he has been on and around successful teams and QBs. He would be my top pick for a vet warm body. Plus, he wasn't part of the horrific Rhule era. Which this team needs to be cleansed from. Sam Darnold is basically the posterboy of it.

In fact you could argue it was almost exactly like the 2021 season. A good 4-5 game start before the wheels predictably fell off. Repeated pattern. NFL teams just need a couple games to figure out how a staff is hiding a bad QB. Because you can only hide Sam Darnold so long in any offense.

not me. he doesn't fit the criteria for a backup. for me a backup should either be: A - A young developmental talent. That's not Sam Darnold B - A veteran that knows the scheme and is largely a teacher. One that has seen it all in the NFL. And yes, he can be called to start until your young guys are ready. That's also not Sam Darnold though. He hasn't seen it all. He doesn't know the O. And Sam largely was just a guy with physical tools. Between the ears is what he lacks and is key for a QB in that role. if I am going to watch disappointing QB play. At least let it be from someone that is doing something legit for the young talent.

again, it's about pointing out the consistency. That has been there since his USC days. You can cherry pick plays and excuse them all you want. When Sam Darnold is on the football field......the ball is always in danger. and that's a liability. We just lucked out that the ball often bounced our way when it happened so often. But that's just the luck of the bounce. all QBs deal with horrible snaps. Lineman getting beat etc. You can find those plays with everyone and more of them than Sam encountered because they all played a lot more snaps. he also wasn't average or better in all the games but the Saints games. He supplied below average offenses production vs the rest of the league in that window.

Sam Darnold only played in 6 games. Wilks did his best to limit him lean on the run. Yet....Sam Darnold had the 5th most fumbles at the QB spot on the season. Sam Darnold is Sam Darnold. He has been a consistent liability since his USC days.

Sam barely played last year. And he still was a league leader in putting the football on the ground. Sam Darnold never changes. And yet here we are....still talking about a confirmed and established bad QB.

I found it previous years, I can't find a trade chart that shows the value of future picks. Bears 1st is - 3000 points Our first, 3rd, and 4th - is just 1546 points Just applying mid round value (16th) to the 2023 1st and 3rd doesn't get you to 3000

hard to guess. Every year is different and just because one team is really stupid doesn't mean it continues a trend. Draft chart was thrown out the window I believe with Trey Lance. That's like saying every team can get 2nd, 4th and 6th for whenever they develop and produce the worst QB in the NFL just because the Panthers did it.

why did Cam set records as a rookie? Well, he was unique. Different. NFL didn't know what to do with that. but he had multiple Pro Bowl offensive lineman, 2 stud RBs, 2 stud TEs, and a HOF WR. Which allowed him to shine year 1. Cam wouldn't of set the league on fire in a bad situation. He would have just been sacked a lot and thrown a lot of picks most likely.

Trevor couldn't elevate diddly squat with a bad scheme, weak coaching and zero talent. He was called a bust. Horrible. Change the coach, scheme and talent and suddenly they go IMMEDIATELY from worst team in the NFL to winning a playoff game. That's no Trevor. That's everything around him.

in Fields first true year as the starter he did near historic stuff on the ground....and managed a better comp %, TD %, INT % than virtually every season Cam Newton played in Carolina. With no talent. The problem isn't Fields. You put young QBs in horrific spots and you aren't going to win and they are going to look bad often. Especially when asked to be everything. I think the Fields criticism remains way over the top. He isn't what they have gotten wrong. 2 years in and they haven't done diddly for him. Take a young Cam and a young Fields. Cam was in a fantastic spot early on vs Fields. A dream scenario in reality if you compare a 2011 vs a 2022.

Is this draft the one to take a shot in? That’s the thing. You never really know. If you look at recent history or all time? The GOATs and great QBs are rarely no brainers. that’s why you just have to play the lotto IMO. Only way to win. Unless you want to go the route of signing an established good QB late in his career IMO. Which limits your window. So instead of being able to compete for 10 years it shrinks to a couple generally. Maybe like 2-3. it’s a QB driven league. and it continues to lean that way more and more IMO.

and scheme/predictability. If JJ Watt knows what the play is too often....he can get in the passing lane and time it. You can be Yao Ming at QB.

I mean Bama has the nearest thing to an NFL OL that exists in college football. Was never an issue. It’s not like we haven’t seen 6ft QBs before. Either you can play or you can’t. batted balls to me at the highest levels IMO is more about O scheme I mean, giant QBs have struggled with it at times. Big Ben late, Cam in New England, etc.

well, I haven't heard an argument that makes sense to take on a pricey win now QB and then spend a top 10 pick on a QB. Who has done that? because you aren't committing to anything really. That's no man's land. you sign Carr and you try to win now or you spend a top 10 pick on a QB and try to get him ready ASAP. Those make sense.

I think it does. You sign Carr, then you need to use those resources on aiding him. Not drafting a QB. Because while a low end version of it....he is a plug in and try to win QB. I don't get the Carr and draft a talented rookie QB narrative working together. Breathing room to get the rookie pick right? We have been waiting since Cam got hurt. This franchise has had nothing but time and room. There is no perfect storm you can keep waiting on.

yeah, but that isn't a likely position Carolina would take. You get Carr and you are committing to making this the Carr Panthers. Therefore that #9 isn't a QB. You are tryin to win with Carr, not build around a top QB prospect. The resources would be used to aid Carr's team.
