So does PJ start next week? Does anyone even care?
CRA replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
I have never advocated banking anything on PJ. I mean I joke about him not losing. But he is just a backup QB. And in his two starts he frankly has done his job pretty well. people bitch about PJ so hard because we have done such a pathetic job in front of PJ. -

You put Heiniche with a bad OC, a horrible OL, and throw him out in games down two scores.....it's gonna be real ugly too. it's all the extreme game I don't buy into. Jackson is now a top 5 DB. Sam a possible MVP. Extend Cam after Washington, retire him the next week. Heiniche and PJ largely have been the same tier QBs. Heiniche just in a good spot and getting opportunity. Maybe he will keep developing. I'm rooting for him. I judge PJ on his two starts. If you watered him, gave him some sun and took care of him he might could grow too. Might not. But people are way too hard on a backup QB who has won his 2 starts in the NFL. -

Not a Pickett fan. You don't need to be Vick but you need some mobility in the modern day NFL. He doesn't have enough IMO. Are you need insane pocket movement/awareness. And Brady developed that over decades by first being in a great situation and not needing it. -

they added a 17th game this year. So I don't care about hearing about 6 instead of 5. -

If Rhule got a call….I’m sure it is just OU working on contingency plans if their top options end up not working out. I just don’t see how he could actually be high on any list at this current point in time. -

wonder where the line drawn for what is a horrible finish. I see us finishing out 1-5. 2-4 if being optimistic. -
I’ll largely take a repeat stretch of what the Ron era was. Just give me a better officiated Super Bowl. - drafted the most exciting and entertaining player in franchise history - stretch of 4 postseason appearances in 5 years - best season in Panther history -stretch of 3 straight division titles

There is an airport probably 10 minutes from Clemson if you got a private plane. Oconee County in Seneca, SC.

Don't disagree, and my statement applies double to Cam. Everyone and thing stays the same....refs call the illegal bats, headshots and catches? Cam already a HOF lock. Narrative on him is different too. Yet nothing actually is different at all about Cam.

this is the NFL. It demands scapegoats for a HCs failures.

He does. He has spoken on it. His stock his been hot for a long time. He has spoken about why he has stayed at Clemson. One key reason was he didn't want to be a hypocrite to his kids. He sold them on Clemson and that experience and wasn't going to then bail for a paycheck/job after they bought in. One finishes his career at Clemson this season and isn't using his COVID year. The other is halfway through. So I don't think he is in the same corner he was a couple years ago.
-
Biggest problem will be for Rhule is that when you are in a make it or get fired year (and everyone knows it).....you often don't have the ability to bring in the the best folks. Best window to bring in great coaches was year 1. Job secuirty and time were on the table then.

Name a clear cut better coordinator in college football? Clemson has more CFP appearances than anyone. 2 nattys. And Clemson has been a top 25 scoring D his entire career. And everyone in Clemson knows Venables and the QBs is what it has been about. and before Clemson got him....OU already saw first hand the Venables magic. So yeah, Venables excites the OU alumni and fanbase much more so than a busting NFL coach that didn't do diddly in college. Which is why the famous OU alumni have been the ones driving the bring Venables back bandwagon. Rhule is a just randoms on twitter. Venables actually has people openly lobbying for him.
-
probably Rhule's agent throwing his name out there trying to hype up Rhule. Rhule probably wants his name out there. Doesn't mean OU is the one putting it out there. I mean, Venables is an easy call over Rhule if you are OU. Rhule isn't going to excite the OU alumni and fans. Frankly, that is too big of a job to bring in Matt Rhule (given where Rhule finds himself....in the process of failing miserably in the NFL after being an okay low tier college coach).

he was a bad day away from hositing a SB trophy with a 19-1 record. hell, different refs and he might of hoisted that SB trophy despite the bad day from the RT. it often is overlooked how much the refs dictated that SB. Narrative on Ron could be drastically different. Yet nothing about Ron would have actually been any different. Ref just would have called the illegal bats illegal, called the head shots, called the catch a catch, etc.

I mean it would be cool to never lose another game. Outside of that, starting PJ doesn’t do much for me at this point. Just ready for this one to end. -

Miami, Philly, Giants all were games where the opponents put up points in large part because of the O. -

Phins had 3 scoring drives Sunday where they didn’t travel even 25 yards. ST gave up 7 on top of that. -
Again, Seattle’s LOB isn’t a historic D paired with Jimmy Clausen. and yeah, it takes words to showcase why Philly game and the AZ game….featured the same actual defense. One game the O allowed them to be great. One game the O screwing them. Same caliber D on the display. most defenses have holes. We have them. But you have to have to talent to exploit it. In large part though, it is our offense overall more so than the the opponent taking it to our D. defense isn’t our problem. Yeah, it still needs work. That defense is plenty good enough to contend in the playoffs paired with an actual offense. Which we don’t remotely have.

Defenses are weird. we have a top 5 D pending the O isn’t imploding on them. You still have to help a defense be great. I use the 85 Bears as the example. They aren’t a historically great D if paired with a O that screws them for 4 quarters. It is top 5 caliber in a vacuum IMO in today’s NFL. It is flawed. But it is still build to be a top tier D in today’s NFL. But it’s conditional on the rest of the team. Lot of the Ls have featured the D coming out strong. O has made that futile, pointless and not taken advantage of the position they were helping put us in. The rest of the team screwed them. Philly, NY and even to a point Miami. Ds eventually fold when asked to be it all. Miami - the D forced 3 straight punts to open the game. Then 4th time they take the field the ball is on the 9 yard line for them to defend. Defense basically gives up one actual drive in the first half. And they put points on the board for the team. The FG was the D. But Miami had 21 on the board. Even if you have a great D….if you hang them out to dry long enough they will suck. Defense showed up in the first half. I mean a big OL and good rush attack isn’t something they are built to excel against but most teams aren’t bringing that. You can’t be built to be great at everything.

I actually like Beamer. I’d rather SC be good than horrible. I just want Clemson to win the matchup. Should of gone that type route and never gone down the Muschamp road. If you couldn’t get it done with FL recruits you ain’t gonna work magic at SC.
