I mean, you do have to acknowledge the stark difference in situations/talent that Caleb Williams finds himself in vs what Fields did. Fields has great talent around him to succeed out of the gate. Fields didn't. Andy Dalton in his entire, long, career....only had 1 season where he threw more INTs than TDs. That was the team Fields found himself in. The Bears read both books. How to ruin a QB and how to set a QB up for success. Tried both.

Jeremy Fowler: Panthers aren’t eager to trade Diontae Johnson
CRA replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
DeVante Adams just went for a conditional 3rd. Amari Cooper just went for a 3rd. I think the Panthers should no brainer it if offered a 4th. Dalton is playing QB. The emphasis should be on all the WRs that possibly have a future here. Johnson isn't in AT territory. If he can prove to be a good guy this season, he belongs on a NFL field as #2. And the only way for us to have a shot at him would be to pay a #2, #1 money. And we should be smarter than that. -
Yeah, even if they get up….the combo of Dabo pulling starters early and Elliot being his guy presents a game you wouldn’t bet on. Even if Clemson could run away with it, zero chance Dabo would do it to Elliot. So if I was betting the spread I might take UVA. But I wouldn’t touch that game

Miami pass game is largely a Hunter Renfrow wannabe as their primary guy. That’s going to bite them I think in the long run….paired with poo D. That’s not a formula in reality to be good. It’s a weak team with good QB. Which is why they barely have been able to beat the meh-est of ACC squads
-
Miami has been horrible in all ACC play this year. Easily could be 0-2. Probably should be. Louisville will be there toughest opponent yet. I don’t think Louisville is great. But reality seems to be, Miami just has a QB and aren’t actually a good football team.

I was perfect last week in my picks despite being slightly off on the point spread. Here is a list of more winners for you. Clemson 100 Virgina 2 OU 1000 UofSC 2 AZ 10000 Colorado -4 Bonus picks Louisville 100000 Miami -6 Tarheels give up an absurd amount of yards and points to the bye week but advance with no one knowing, no one talking about how that is possible.

Mike Kaye: Panthers might start Bryce Young final 7 games
CRA replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
horrible idea Because our emphasis should be about developing young players and you have to pick a one or the other… XL, Saunders, Brooks, Mingo, Coker OR Bryce if you give Bryce the the starts, you then limit the development of ALL those other players. We know the answer on Bryce. Canales can go if that is his logic. And if he playing that logic there really was no point ever going to Dalton. -
yeah, I do think things are about to go south. Whatever south would be for 1 win team. The more and more film that's put out there....the tougher it will get. I mean, we just got smashed pretty easily by both the Bears and Falcons for crying out loud. Those aren't good football teams. Imagine when we actually see one of those.
-
I've always called it cherry picked logic that was applied. The QB coach was responsible here. The OC was responsible there. Just whatever happened to be Canales' job. Frank Reich did more with Bryce and with less talent than Canales. Maybe he is the QB guru lol. I mean, I'm fine with Canales to an extent. He is what he is. A offensive Pete Carroll variant. Which IMO is fine for a leadership role.

I still can't believe we hired a poor man's Dabo Sweeney....and were surprised it went bad. The actual Dabo would be a trainwreck in the NFL. Tepper's first big move, showed he should be involved in zero moves.
-
I think we have to wait and see....I mean, one could argue.... Tomlin to an extend has a Russell Wilson issue of sorts regardless that needs sorting out. Is he unhappy with Fields? Maybe. Maybe he think Fields is actually the guy in terms of who they have on the roster. I know he needs to resolve his QB situation now that Wilson is healthy. You know the guy, the guy that cosplays as an active player on gamedays even when he isn't. You know Mr. Unlimited is in that locker room doing all his annoying things presenting as THE dude who just happens to be hurt. For all we know, Tomlin could just be giving Wilson one game and pending he doesn't wow vs game back vs a decent Jets D in prime time..... he can say, I think we go with Fields and tell Wilson he can find a trade location if he is unhappy being the backup when healthy.

I mean, that's not the story on every young QB drafted. Most of the goats of the last decade sat and also had franchise stability on top of that. The legit top tier passers. Brady sat. Rodgers sat. Mahomes sat. Brady and Rodgers have been outspoken on what teams do with young QBs. Basically talking about teams like us, the Bears, etc. I'm not saying Fields would have been a top tier passer if he sat. But it's hard to argue the model he got put through was going to bring out whatever the best of him would have been. I've said the same for Bryce. Whatever Bryce's ceiling was going to be (and I don't think it was much)....the Panthers essentially ensured he would never see it.
-
gotta think some of that is him being on his 4th offense in 4 years. I mean, if there was a book of what shouldn't happen for a QB young to develop...there is a chapter there for Fields.
-
Fields is however one of the most dangerous runners in the NFL from the QB spot. So if you play him, you have to accept that aspect is there to counter and make up for his incomplete pass game. I still see no reason the Steelers would go to Wilson. Teammates love Fields. Wilson is tough to take. Steelers are winning. Style points don't count. And Fields while inconsistent, can be a good passer in windows. of course, I say all that as a firm believer Wilson is washed...
-
We won’t trade for Fields… because we could of just drafted him at 8 when he fell in our laps. Kept all our star players. Kept all 2 billion draft picks we spent on random QBs. It’s not like Tepper doesn’t know that. Doubt he wants to look any dumber than he already does.
-
It’s stupid to bench him for Wilson. They are winning with Fields and room exists for growth. Plus, unlike Wilson, teammates always dig Fields. Wilson is annoying and on the decline.
-
Drafting an injured guy was a bit silly for us….but drafting a RB not in round 1 makes total sense. Hubbard is a FA after this year. Not paying him a second contract is smart. Not paying some dude like Miles Sanders would be smart. You are supposed to draft RBs.
-
Heck, of late, the #1 overall QB has been a meh to bad investment for most.
-
Yeah, they both seem to want to dance with pass rush and hold the ball…..yet ain’t built like Lamar to entertain that. I think both have been more lucky than not with that mindset. Weak conference and the easy section of the schedule help. But you got to think it will bite them eventually more than it has to date. Dudes get killed in the NFL with that mindset of holding thinking they can make a play. Ward and Sanders would be destroyed by a NFL front playing that way. their college coaches seem to be cool with it. I just worry the habits set in. But maybe if tasked with quick ball both could do that too.
-
Too early IMO. Take Milroe. It could keep going south this year. And then what is he? I think Carolina likely gets a top 3 pick and should draft back for picks
-
Panthers dead last in point differential at -100, 2nd worst is -65
CRA replied to R0CKnR0LLA's topic in Carolina Panthers
Shoutout to the Falcons DB for going down at the goaline on that pick 6. Could be worse. -
No doubt Frank had flaws. But Frank was mid level NFL coach. He couldn’t do that here because of Bryce….and the same glaring difference appeared when Dalton played vs Seattle. clearly Bryce Young is an offensive issue unique to itself
-
I don’t see how we are better positioned than Dallas or even the Jags. Both have better base talent that projects out past this year IMO. Think coaching is really hurting both of those teams right now.
-
I think he could post a winning record in a 100% healthy SF O. That's about it.
-
easier for them, given they stumbled upon a rookie who went undefeated until the NFCCG we got an empty cupboard.
