  1. I don't want a random developmental QB as a backup. I want someone young who people thought would be a franchise type QB and failed at first, looking for a second shot at redeeming himself in most scenarios. Pending not a rookie or I got Mahomes or something. Bryce is a year 3 QB and sort of in no man's land. Think he deserves real comp sitting on his heals. A guy that believes he could take the job if the opportunity ever arose and be the guy. I mean, just hypothetically play out if Bryce Young were to return to being the dude he largely has been.....then we just insert Dalton. It's a complete wasted season, We have to essentially rebuild the entire room. Who knows, maybe you catch some magic. Have a Geno Smith situation. Or a Jake Delhomme situation.
  2. I'll add one more thought for you Icege What could make me change my outlook? Think that will come down to the Panthers showing me something in preseason. Not wins. Not stats. But I have long been a believer preseason can show you things about certain players, the team, etc (dates back to Matt Rhule era) and IMO has applied ever since. Do they actually rep Bryce Young and not try to hide him this year? I feel that applied the past 2 seasons and drastically hurt him going into both seasons (that's on staff). The young Cam Newton way was the way. Take lumps in preseason. Shake the rust off. Get used to game speed again. Not using the start of the actual season for your very young QB to find a groove. They haven't repped him or rep him less than stud QBs. I don't think either preseason the team was showing confidence in reality (only word) of what they had going into either of the last 2 seasons. also, we need our young WRs doing the same. They need the same reps. Preseason games don't matter. But they do. They are real NFL reps vs people you don't see every day in real game environments. They need lots of balls. XL and Saunders combined for 2 catches all last preseason (XL at 0). I get injury concerns and being overly cautious was part of that. But those dudes still played. Feel the staff did a poor job of working up our young guys in those moments leading into the season. Get them catches. Get them work. If BY, XL, Tmac, Saunders are out there all preseason putting in real work going into this season and showing some confidence? The players on O that will matter are? I might change my view. If it's just a bunch of not seeing Bryce, not seeing Tmac, not seeing XL, not seeing Saunders, etc.....and being told but it's totally going to be great week 1? Meh.
  3. I believe we could in fact be the best and most fun to watch team of the entire Tepper era. So I’ll give you that. I just think we stay under .500. Flirt with that line. I do not think we have much room for injury though. Really need a 17 game Hubbard season behind a largely healthy OL for that to happen though. Still think the pass game is going to be on the weaker side given so much development with guys is in the works there so too much can't be placed on their shoulders. 100% has to be a complimentary O.
  4. lol. I 100% knew that, I guess I failed in not making that reply even more comedically over the top. I’ll try better in the future.

    Jewell Out

best hope now is a team cutting aging vets for their own youth movement I guess. You sometime can snag some good players when those cuts hit but they are pricey

    Jewell Out

Dude should never play another snap of football.
  8. That's upstate South Carolina royalty right there sir. James Hunter Renfrow. Third and Renfrow. The man's got literal WR routes named after him. A multi-time champion on the football field. Half man, half god, half possible centaur. Best put some respect on his name. Does Adam Thielen have routes named after him? Well, in fairness, JT O'Sullivan might have some names for them.
  9. bro, this is July heading into a new season. Even not very optimist posters are operating at their most optimist versions of themselves. I mean, not me. Just talking about others. I have dumped all my optimism into one player. I got little left over to spread around elsewhere. All hail the future King of the Queen City!
  10. Warren landed in a rough spot to shine. Think Richardson was like at a 40% comp last year or something horrific.
  11. Marvel losing Gunn is going to bite them. Gunn being over this DC universe is going to be a really good thing. He knows exactly how to do this Superhero fun thing just right.
  12. he was an undrafted rookie. Which for me, is a different tier. It's the additional arm tier, that no coach will ever have to really worry about talking about. Pending I don't have a rookie or superstar....I probably prefer the QB situation most coaches don't want. Which means a #2 that fans would clamor for if times got a little tough.
  13. I largely like someone like Noah being added simply because of what the roster looks like. Not so much because I like him. In terms of consistency and reliability, we have Adam Theilen, who debated retirement, couldn't play a full season last year.......and that brings us to the conclusion of that discussion. AT goes down or the lotto hail mary Renfrow thing doesn't work (think Cohen).......and you still got a roster full of dudes you don't even know for sure will run the right routes yet given their youth. We might could use some boring good. Because you basically are all in on AT staying healthy to get that every week * I think Moore and Tremble don't meet the average tier like Fant which is why I didn't list them.
  14. outside of rookie year type scenarios (where I want it)....I'm not a super huge fan of old vet QB as the #2. I'd largely prefer a hungry younger guy that maybe faltered in his first opportunity as the #2. and that really has nothing specifically to do with Bryce Young but it does have something to do with Bryce Young. Bryce Young is sort of in that no man's land. Year 3 player and no one really knows what his future holds and how things will go.
  15. Probably come here because he would actually be able to make a run for TE1 in reality. Tremble is our TE1 and while they aren’t cut from the same cloth….but overall Noah is a better TE to date
  16. Every team has different needs of the backup QB. On some teams a young hopeful makes sense and on others an old worn out dude makes sense. We are a little more in the in-between IMO where you probably would prefer a Fields, Pickett, Howell type IMO. So a young disappoint that you there is still some hail mary hope in.....given BY essentially was benched both seasons for performance (I know that's not the official line going into Seattle but I think most would agree he got a break and should of been benched later that year). I know we want Bryce to be the week 17 guy all season this upcoming year. But it's still in the reasonable thought process that the other dude could show back up.
  17. Evero was setup to fail by design last year and then took the DB hit on top of that. I don’t love Evero but it’a far more on the front office than DC in terms of what happened last year. and the Carolina O was 31st in time of possession in addition to all that
  18. Yeah, at no point did I say he can only throw short and talk in weird absolutes. we clearly sort of found ourselves in a weird spot IMO. Never all in on a vision that made sense. Half way moved on from Bryce after year one. Living in a random parts word and wanting it to work together. Not my ideal why to go about it. It’s trying to manifest Bryce into fitting a non ideal scenario/team for him.
  19. 100% agree. LB and then to a much lesser extent but still a thing was DL. We at least know we largely where going to have the defensive front 7 intact year to year pending injury didn't derail it. I can handle moving away from being RB central but the D is a bit tough to see
  20. they drafted Tmac this year. Bryce's natural play style is going to trend to a Ladd type not the vertical game. So why wouldn't your build your team to your QBs strength fixate on being strong there. We drafted Tmac this year. So you got Ladd in the slot. Now you got that AT money to spent on the outside across from Tmac. That's my whole, random parts thing. I feel Bryce Young fits 1 thing, Dave's always fit a different game (and that basically plays out). So my naturally stance despite not being a huge Bryce guy is either go all in on him (which they never did).....or go all in on Dave (which isn't Bryce's style). I'm fine either way. It's the in-between I don't like.
  21. I still contend if you give any org our OL last year......more offense should of resulted. The D being THAT bad makes sense given what the DL was post Brown going down.
  22. *disclaimer, no need to tell us what happened in the end, just quit watching after he gets the Mountain on the ground. I mean, he technically beat him. Renfrow isn't cocky enough to then get leg swept and then have all that other stuff happen to him.
  23. Really bad defenses actually present opportunity for offenses to overperform statistically. which IMO is a red flag/concern about last year. We had a historically bad defense.....and really didn't generate much O
  24. We had the 29th ranked O last year. 29th ranked offenses need defenses to flat out win games for them. and virtually ALL the investment went into that O while virtually intentionally letting the D slide.
  25. I mean, if you spent the farm on Bryce Young and believed in him....Ladd makes way more sense than XL and an aging out AT shouldn't prohibit you from building a future that makes sense IMO. Ladd basically gets a year of mentoring from AT (not that he needed it)....and then you don't have to overpay AT to take up space in the slot because you got nothing else proven.
