I think if Sam Darnold remains Sam Darnold….decent odds we get stuck with him for a bit. worst case IMO is Sam just remains Sam. Good and bad. We get to about 8 wins. We have no options and they rework his deal

I don't know if I agree. Watson went to a horrible Texans org. It didn't matter. Horrible OL. Bad coaching. Bad management. I mean, he is Mahomes to the Bears (but worse). Watson was going to be special no matter where he went. That's just what he was.
-
well, that was a bad OL vs a great defensive front. And Mahomes was pulling off some matrix stuff in that game......and his receivers let him down. Lot of big drops in that game after he pulled off some absurd stuff. I mean, the Bears haven't had a losing season over the last 3 years. I would wager if they wouldn't of sucked with Mahomes. overall I do agree with your point though. Most folks are not Mahomes. Even most really good QBs.

Your reaction when Sam Darnold is not named a Captain...
CRA replied to Basbear's topic in Carolina Panthers
Cam came into an offense that featured established pro bowlers/life long Panther leaders on the OL and WR spot. I don't think it was a knock on Cam's leadership at the time. Just like it wasn't a knock on Kalil for never jumping Gross/Smith until Ron altered the captain criteria. -
NFL Network says Darnold worst starting QB in the league.

In a world where our starters were going up against against backups......and Sam wasn't able to get anything going until the 2 minute drive as the half was about to end. -
worth noting Chase and Sewell both missed the 2020 season. So in addition to the jump to the NFL they haven't played football in a long time.
-
I think Ron appointed Captains some years. There isn't a set in stone way of doing it.

I can't pull for the Brady Bucs to win. Fug ceding the division to them. Brady hate + Tampa hate exceeds Cowboy hate. Go Cowboys.

Zod Almighty's 2021 Carolina Panthers Season Prediction
CRA replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah, 7 to 9 wins is my window. Ball bounces our way a little then we get to 9. It doesn’t, I think the floor with some adversity is about 7. Too much talent not to get to 7. OL too weak IMO to get much further than 9. -
I mean, there are you tube videos up featuring all his INTs from every season. It's a tough sell for someone to watch them....and for you to then claim they were largely great defensive plays and bad breaks. Sam Darnold made some really terrible decisions about what to do with the football in NY. The type stuff a NFL QBs just shouldn't do. Which is the knock on Sam. Not his physical talent.

Zod Almighty's 2021 Carolina Panthers Season Prediction

7 to 9 wins. triple stamp it, no erasies, touch blue make it true. -
He is a 30 year old RB (technically 29). He basically is right on schedule. Even if he was younger, he doesn't seem like a fit for Baltimore.
-
I think there is a 0% chance CMC does it. His load is going to be too crazy as is. Maybe DJ if they have zero faith in anyone else.
-
CMC and DJ Moore have returned punts in the NFL. Both returned some in college too. so by default, they just listed guys on the roster who have IMO. I don’t think it means anything. I think they will likely throw someone to the wolves that has been working on it in camp if I had to guess. Which I hate. Because PR is a weird thing. Especially in a real game. I don’t even care about return yards. Just want it fielded cleanly.
-
Shi and Chubba aren't punt returners though. PR is weird. You either got it or you don't.
-
I would say that isn't an actual depth chart. And they simply put the only bodies who have returned a punt as the punt returners. but I have no problem with it. You could just have them fair catch them all. Actually fielding a punt and not muffing it is the concern by just putting a random guy back there.

We have won 5 games each of the last two seasons. and there is at least an arguement....we got a little worse on both the OL and at QB. I mean, it isn't outlandish for folks not to have ton of respect for us. I mean, I think we will win. I wouldn't be shocked if we lost. Our OL/QB combo looks problematic and that can implode a teams chances in any given game. The starters didn't look great in their one appearance in the preseason on O. and while we likely will have a pass rush. It can't get there every snap. And we have been a very average defense when it doesn't of late.
-
well, last season we had a checkdown QB. So that is what happened. Joe Brady's offensive pass scheme is built off Sean Payton.....so it isn't a checkdown offense. Which is why it LSU had a historic offense. The deep ball is an essential cog.
-
I mean, Darnold checked down all training camp and off-season. It was a common theme reported on. And when we finally saw him in a half of football in preseason that is what he did. Small ball. that’s most likely the early plan IMO
-
Sam has had one of the highest INT% by a starting QBs in each of the last 3 seasons. He has been the only constant in that grouping of top 5 highest INT%. his INT% increased last year. Total INTs went down simply because of less games.

ESPN Analytics' simulation. You're not gonna like it...maybe

I think Teddy was a bad fit in hindsight for a super green staff. Especially one trying to figure it out in the shortened COVID lead up. Sam could probably be slightly worse than Teddy and they stick with him. Because Sam isn't going to always give the textbook response. -
I think Horn will defiantly get his shot to show what he has got. I mean, given his play style....you got to think a NFL staff is going to look his way to see what is what.

man coverage is always an interesting play. People hate soft zone. But coaches run so much of it to limit the big plays and forces QBs to play a certain way. I'm not sure this team is anywhere close to being ready to run tons of man coverage. More? Sure. We ran more cover 3 than anyone. But a lot? Out the gate? Well, that can be playing with fire with a gunslinger. Especially when your team as a whole hasn't run a lot of it and your number one man DB is a rookie that sat out most preseason reps.
