Are you saying Mac Jones and Lance aren’t it? Shocking!
-
People still don’t get it. Teddy was ok, but he was never THE guy. This team is going to churn that position until they find THAT guy. Taking chances and turning over rocks is what we have to do. Mediocrity is not accepted anymore. Too many people think we should be happy and extend a QB because he *could* get us a winning season every now and then. Thats not the point of this game. Lots of people will say our QB carrousel is a sign of org failure. It’s not. It’s what we have to do to. Settling on a mediocre QB for years while we wait around for someone to drop in our laps 20 years from now is not an option. The media wouldn’t accept that approach from the patriots, but for some reason it’s what the panthers should do. Don’t accept that line of thinking. QB talent matters a ton. Coaching can only do so much. Let’s continue being aggressive at finding the right person for that spot.

What Are You Going To Be Upset About If We Draft A
Tbe replied to OceanPanther's topic in Carolina Panthers
A lot of mocks have us giving Fields to NE in a trade down. I will rage if that happens. -
People went completely nuts over this today. I guess the thread was deleted. To sum up the thread... turf = Tepper is evil. World is ending.

Yeah, the rules have changed since the old pound the rock days. It’s harder than ever for defenses to beat a really good QB. A QB can transform or tank a team. LTs don’t really have that power.
-
A lot of us have been trying to say this for months now, but some insist on a left tackle and waiting for a QB to fall to us ‘organically’ in the future.
-
Im not convinced the 49ers aren’t taking Fields. We’ll find out soon.
-
Yeah, on paper we had the worst defense in the league at the start of the season. 40% of our defensive starters were rookies. The others were scrubs with the exception of Burns. Rhule massively overachieved given the circumstances.

If he falls past #3 the odds that we get him go way up. Denver or NE could still come up for him but it’s not as likely.

Let’s just all agree the that owner input issue is nuanced. After all, not all ‘football’ guys are smart or think long term (talking to you Hurney) Some owners are stupid. We see that all the time. Some smart owners have quietly interfered to keep their staff from building for the short term. Rooney and the Ben pick come to mind. His coach that year wanted an O lineman instead of Ben. I think a good org needs a balance. The owner needs to stay away unless his football guys are making harmful short term decisions because they fear for their jobs.

It all comes down to this. Some people believe you should build the team (or at least the O line) before fixing the QB position. Some think you should find the QB before putting together a team. Tepper is the 2nd type. We will spend significant draft capital on multiple QBs over the next few years. I wouldn’t be surprised if we trade down for future picks for this purpose.

Sims is an aspiring GM. He’s not doing it for click bait. He wants to be right. He is very down of Fields though. Doesn’t think he’s a top prospect.

Would the Panthers sign Lamar Jackson if the Ravens dump him?
Tbe replied to SizzleBuzz's topic in Carolina Panthers
If they really want to take the Army approach, then I’d take both of their first rounds so they can get Lance. -
Not a Kiper fan, but his “success” rate is on par with most GMs.

I don’t think there is any chance he turns into a 30+ mil a year QB. 20-25 max in a best case scenario. The precedent with TB is there. If Darnold sucks he’s not playing next year. It doesn’t matter what picks we traded.
-
Giving up a 2nd PLUS 18 mil next year to a terrible QB would be a bigger dumb ass move. You don’t give a guy a guaranteed 18 mil extension just because you gave up something to acquire him. Acquisition cost shouldn’t drive retention decisions. After all, there is a significant chance this guy becomes clausen 2.0. If he plays great, give him a contract. If not, let him walk.

I think the “plan” is to exercise it if Fields doesn’t drop to 8.
