With Baker behind a good OL? If CMC is healthy for a majority of the games thanks to the OL? If McAdoo is a decent OC and Campen has our new OL playing well quickly? If Horn stays healthy and plays to his draft status? If YGM shows any growth/development? If Brown plays more like his rookie vs his sophomore year? -Hard to tell. Anywhere from dead last to squeaking in as a wildcard…

Hey I'm not arguing on Pickett, just showing how some scouts/places have him rated and how they were lower on Watson then they should be. There is so many variables which is why we are able to make this any sort of debate/discussion. I'm with you though in thinking this is the draft to take our LT at 6 (providing one of the big 3 are still there). I think I'm leaning towards one of the 3 LTs, then 2 DEs, then trade down if possible. If we don't draft a QB I think trading for Baker for the cheap might be our outcome with the least amount of long term damage. Baker with our new OL could make games more watchable this year.

You said he also never had a statistical season like Allen’s sophomore season. Just showing you that’s wrong. Also showed where they graded Watson lower than Pickett. It’s tough to evaluate these QBs…

https://www.nfl.com/prospects/patrick-mahomes/32004d41-4840-1939-e4c1-bb89191b4e71 https://www.nfl.com/prospects/kenny-pickett/32005049-4377-7233-6101-772adaebe15c NFL.com has Pickett scored higher than it did Mahomes. I’m not saying these guys weren’t as polished as you think. They turned out great, but teams took a risk and developed them properly. That’s what you need to do when you aren’t picking in the top 3. Sophomore season 56% 28 TDs 15 INTs 144.9 rating Willis this year 61.1% 27 TDs 12 INTs 152.1 rating (Allen did have 350 more yards) -that’s just looking at passing to keep it fair. Willis crushed him running the ball.

Allen’s game tape wasn’t good. Willis has plenty of physical talent. It’s easy to sit back and judge these QBs AFTER they have become successful, but they all had some red flags just landed in good spots (Watson excluded). This class does look weaker than normal, but guaranteeing we will get a top 5 pick to draft a flawless prospect is a bit of a reach IMO. I’d be happy with a top LT as they are hard to come by and this class seems deep there, but that should make us better than last year.
-
Those 3 you mentioned had several red flags coming out of college. Allen was very raw and Mahomes needed to sit almost a year. They questioned if Watson could play from the pocket. That’s his point. If you aren’t picking in the top 1-3 you won’t get a prospect with no weaknesses/red flags. Not at the QB position…

If we get one of the big 3 LTs in this draft and trade for Baker/Jimmy plus we have freed up money for an additional FA if we need, plus who knows what Rhule/Fitt will trade away. Just swapping out QBs in general makes this team very different. Baker and Jimmy shown they can get you into the playoffs with a string team around him. That’s not necessarily the route I want, but it’s a real option our staff is looking at.
-
It’s irrelevant to banking on next year’s draft. That’s the whole point. We could look way different at the start of the season. So all the “we will get a top 5 pick next year” is nonsense at this point.

Our team isn’t complete yet…
-
There is no way to know that. We are picking 6 now and 8 the year prior. If we draft a LT along with our FA OL and still get a higher pick the following year it tells me that OL isn’t as important as people think, but I don’t think that’s the case.

Bob McGinn's annual draft spectacular (QB class)
ForJimmy replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
He would do fine in New Orleans with the dink/dunk offense and a dome to prevent bad weather fumbling issues. I could see them drafting him with one of their firsts. -

Honestly I’m thinking the best we can do (without Rhule ruining next year’s assets for our new coach), is trade low picks for Baker and draft a LT at 6. Don’t let Rhule extend Baker until AFTER the season. If he earns a new contract then that opens things up. If he struggles we let him walk at no expense to us. We have a promising OL and defense for our new coach and our early picks for him to draft his QB. Rhule gets his vet, our OL coach gets a great group of guys to work with and fans don’t have to watch Darnold again. This is all assuming the Browns eat a chunk of his salary too.

Who cares about a straight line race?? How often is that going to happen for our QB. Willis is far more elusive and quick than Pickett, he showed it at the Senior Bowl against the same competition. He showed it against Syracuse and Va Tech (same schools Pickett played in the ACC). Willis is this year’s Trey Lance (small school QB with huge upside but needs the right staff and probably needs to sit a year). He isn’t the QB that our staff needs to draft, but he has some great upside.

Lol you being high on Herbert wasn’t some crazy, rare take. He got drafted in the top 10 so obviously scouts were high on him as well. Trask is still a question mark and the Drew Brees to Carson Strong is very random. Strong is a statue with a strong arm. His best shot would be more of a Rivers style play IMO.
-
I find it interesting that several different scouts here compare Willis to Lance. One said he is a better prospect. I mentioned this on here and some Huddlers lost it. If we had a better staff to develop him, I’d be ok with Willis at 6. However with Rhule and Co I’d rather trade down and take a Howell/Corral if we go the QB route.

Yeah OL never bust in the draft right? Are we done paying Matt Kalil yet?
-
All I know is Neal and Icky are constantly ranked in the top 10. Cross is more all over the place. Im not saying he will bust or is bad, but a slight tier lower than the other two IMO.
-
I think it’s more of a big 2. I’ve seen Cross as low as in the 20s on some rankings. We have definitely improved our OL with our FAs alone. Throw in a stud young LT and we could have something.
-
If you are an offensive line fan, I don’t think this is the best team for you to pull for…
-
It’s all mental for Sam and our staff was dumb enough to pay him after 4 years if no results. That speaks of our stupidity more than anything else.
-
It gives Rhule his vet QB for cheap and let’s us see how Baker can perform in our system BEFORE we extend him. If he struggles it’s easy to cut him lose. If he plays well then we have some options (extend, sign/trade etc…) It’s a low risk strategy if they are unable to draft one or aren’t high on any of the ones in the draft.
