Well I clearly stated he was better than Carter, so I’m not sure what you are arguing. Carter is a very low bar. The Pro Bowl is voted by the fans so it’s not a true indication of how good a player is. They just read a stat and assume.

The man can’t cover. He loads up on tackles in a very average defense. He is better than Carter, but honestly I’m ok with getting a draft pick for him, because we desperately need picks.

ESPN suggests 2 QBs for 2022 for the Panthers...
ForJimmy replied to musicman's topic in Carolina Panthers
The Chargers drafted a QB when they had a top 10 pick and a terrible OL. They drafted their LT the following year. Some of these Chiefs OL you are talking about were later rounds picks as well, Trey Smith was a late rounder and they paid big money for Thuney in FA. We have a 2nd and 3rd rounder already in Moton and BC. There is definitely more than one way to do this. I’m not against using our top pick on OL as they are an extremely important group, but there is definitely more than one way to turn around a franchise. -

Don’t give up anything for injury prone average Jimmy G. If we draft OL this year, we will need our picks to draft a QB next year. Just sign Mitch or Marriotta for cheap and have Cam be our Hill/back up QB for the year. -
I don’t care who was blocking, they couldn’t hold their blocks for whatever reason. If they have proven they could in the past and now can’t, there is a coaching/development issue. (Example) If you have a Pro Bowl LT and he allows 5 sacks, him being a Pro Bowl LT doesn’t really matter as he failed to do his job.

In his defense if he went to his second read this year he would have been sacked. Look at the prior year if you want to see him go through progressions. I feel like this year he was trying to do too much, but didn’t really have any other options.

Probably Howell. I think it’s close. Pickett is more polished, but Howell has more athletic ability so maybe a higher ceiling?

You want to roll with Darnold?
-
I think he will be gone before our pick. He seems to be the top QB and the Lions or Giants could use him. Giants will probably bring in a new coach who will want a new QB, Lions could use a rookie to learn behind Goff for a couple games.

That’s very odd… Any good deals? Asking for a friend.

Trading for Darnold was questionable at best, but pretty low risk. Passing on QBs like Fields and picking up no other FA QBs to compete with him or act as plan B was foolish. Picking up his 5th year for $18.5 million before he took a snap with us was idiotic. The Darnold saga was stupid because Rhule went “all in” on him with no backup plan. It was a longshot to begin with, but going all in was the ultimate failure. If we had a young QB like Fields on the roster to compete with him and weren’t on the hook this next year for 18.5 it would be a totally different situation. We could draft OL and have extra money to sign a great vet. It was a complete roster mismanagement followed by incompetent coaching. Shuffling bad vets on the OL constantly is also killing this offense.

Turnovers are a problem? Let’s see what Darnold can do…

I got excited about Mike White too, but it was fool’s gold. Hell Kyle Allen looked like the guy for a few games for us…

The Lamar hate is strong with some fans…

Yeah a good coach can pay dividends with Henderson/Horn/Taylor in our secondary. That’s a lot of talent plus Brown has flashed potential at DT. The Darnold 2nd rounder plus his 18.5 million next year is just terrible…

It’s an important enough position that you draft one when you are in position to take a potential franchise one. The main question is, is there one that is a franchise QB in this draft. A very common strategy is take the QB and the build around him. There is usually a learning curve regardless. Franchise LTs are also very hard to find. Right now at pick 5-8 and considering this is a strong OL draft we probably have a higher chance of getting a franchise LT with this class. I would be ok with a top OL, or a trade down and then a QB later in the first with additional capital to address OL.

The funny thing is the Jags have actually invested in the OL. Jawaan Taylor 2nd round 35 overall, Cam Robinson 2nd round 34 overall, Norwell ( UDFA), but was a high priced FA, Baruch was a low one 4th, Linder 3rd rounder center pick 93, and Walker Little 2nd round 45 overall. They just have had a terrible coach and no real weapons for Trevor. It doesn’t matter how good you draft if your staff sucks. BC and Brown could be solid starters for all we know…

This Sunday - a likely reality for us Cam stans
ForJimmy replied to CRA's topic in Carolina Panthers
Sam was his guy. He was so confident in him he even picked up his 5th year. The worse Sam looks the worse Rhule looks. I just hope Tepper sees it. -

Good. Start Sam and help his ass get fired. -
If we tear it all down again how long would it take...

100% right. I see people talking about “tanking” next season for a QB and know there is no way Rhule on the hot seat or a new coach is going to want to do that. That’s why I’m all for drafting a QB, if there is one we like. If not address the next most important and biggest weakness in OL. No plans for a rebuild are going to involve a “tanking” year to address needs. -
Even if half of Brady’s weapons were missing, he would still have more weapons than Cam did a majority of his career, plus an OL. The just got out coached.

As long as Rhule is replaced by someone qualified I’m happy.
