Exactly. It all depends on who falls/is available at 8 and where our staff ranks them. We aren’t going to avoid the top LT fir our 5 ranked QB, or ignore a top rated QB for a LT we aren’t as high on.

Bunch of Robby Anderson builds coming into the league.

Hulk Smash?

My only critique is I would use more perrywinkle. Seriously though great work!

So if we can’t get a LT at pick 8 we can’t address it at all? This happens to be a very deep draft for that position. Fields at 8 and Radunz at 39. Our line was middle of the pack last year with Teddy in the pocket. Darnold and Fields can avoid pressure better than Teddy plus throw in a player like Radunz at LT and your line isn’t terrible. We can even draft another G in the 3rd. What happens if Sewell and Slater are gone before 8? Do you think Murray had an elite line in Arizona when he was drafted? Herbert had the worst in the league. The line is very important, but it doesn’t triumph the importance of finding the right guy to play QB. I don’t understand the whole we can’t draft a QB until we have a top line in the league issue.

It’s like spending a future 2nd (reluctantly) and late picks on a player in a position that important doesn’t guarantee him a starting spot. We just spent a decent amount of money on Erving telling him he can compete for LT, so do we not draft one now because we have to build a complete team and have other needs? I mean if we traded for Watson (before legal trouble) or Rodgers then yeah I would be against drafting a QB in the first, but it is Sam Darnold which makes the position still incomplete in my book...
-
Yeah no team has ever been upset with having two productive young QBs. Especially at the value they are currently holding... and if Darnold struggles we would be very thankful we would already have another option.
-
There is a very good chance we trade next year’s second and a couple late picks for Darnold because we doubted the QB we wanted would be there at 8. Go ahead and lock up our backup plan before the draft so A) teams are less tempted to jump us and draft a QB B) we won’t have to trade the farm to jump up and grab a QB we like C) we won’t have to worry about getting into a bidding war for Darnold with desperate teams who couldn’t land a QB in the draft after it’s over This does not mean we are set and don’t draft a guy that falls to us. Those three picks wouldn’t be wasted. Darnold would have an advantage to start the season since he has been in the league 3 years. If our rookie is good we can ease him in and trade Darnold next year if we pick up his 5th year.
-
Exactly. If we used those picks to move up to 5 or 6 and picked Fields no one would blink. This way we also have a young backup with potential no matter who wins the starting spot. Also if Darnold turns out to be great like people on her are suggesting then we can absolutely get a return by trading one of the two.

Newsome is going to be a very good NFL CB IMO. I could see him and Horne being better than Surtain (who should be solid).

They can claim they see whatever they want, but statistically speaking no QB has a better rating when throwing past their first read than Fields. There is no such thing as a slam dunk and our staff may feel no draft prospect is worth 3 first round picks (and I agree).

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/49ers/pff-grade-counters-narrative-justin-fields-one-read-quarterback%3famp He is actually the top quarterback in this draft at going beyond his first read. There is definitely that narrative going around, but it is proven to be a false one. https://www.google.com/amp/s/saturdaytradition.com/ohio-state-football/dan-orlovsky-shreds-critics-who-say-justin-fields-cant-get-off-first-read/amp/ https://www.google.com/amp/s/ftw.usatoday.com/2021/02/nfl-draft-justin-fields-one-read-quarterback-report/amp

Teddy is your guy then. What issues are scaring you about Fields?
-
It all depends on who is available and how they value the remaining picks. What if we are not high on Slater or Sewell vs the rest of the class and the one we like is gone by 8. Trading down makes a ton of sense in this scenario.

Waddle/Smith if no one will trade, but someone will want Mac Jones.

No linebacker is getting past me in the first!

I get Darnold has talent and was in a terrible situation with the Jets. However, his turnover issues weren’t something that just started happening in New York. https://www.google.com/amp/s/clutchpoints.com/nfl-draft-sam-darnold-knows-his-turnover-issues-in-college-are-a-concern/amp/ 27 starts with 22 interceptions and 21 fumbles. 43 turnovers in 27 starts is Winston bad... This wasn’t against SEC defenses either, he was in the defenseless PAC 12. I love the optimism and understand he is still very young. However going all in on a QB who has shown on both levels TOs are a big issue is extremely risky. If Lance is there, I understand passing on him because he appears to be a project himself. However if a top QB we are high on falls to us I hope we consider taking them. I’ll cheer for whoever we get, and I would love Sewell if that’s the pick, but Darnold went from 3 over all to being traded for a future second and late round picks for a reason... I’m just a fan of doubling down to increase our odds of getting our franchise QB now vs having a constant revolving door at the position.

Sewell and Toney would make our offense great! (IF Darnold works out, but that’s a different conversation) Sewell, Elf, Paradis, Miller, Moton blocking for Sammy D and CMC with Arnold, Toney, Deej Moore, and Anderson catching calls would be very fun to watch!
-
FS and maybe another CB and this defense should be solid. Now we need a LT and slot WR on offense.

The big issue with the Cooper argument is he had Dak all of 2019 and nearly a third of the games in 2020. Dalton was his low point which would have been Moore’s best QB yet. McLaurin is a much better argument. It’s hard to find WRs excelling with bad QB play which is why Moore is underrated. We showed you the link where he had some of the most uncatchable passes. On top of that we were constantly watching plays last year of him being wide open and Teddy missing him (yes I know this happens to all WRs, but when your top QB is known for check downs it’s an issue).
-
I think we are rolling with Arnold and Thomas at TE. The depth might have to be some FAs and undrafted rookies. LT is a must and this draft is loaded with them. Slot WR is getting overlooked by us I think. I would not be surprised if we draft one of the WRs like Smith in the first and a LT in the second due to the depth in this draft.

Ah yes you are struggling to show Moore is overrated so you try to say Dalton is better than former NFL MVP Cam. Brilliant!
