Robbie should like this “All Carolina had to give up was a 2024 conditional fifth-round pick that could become a fourth-rounder based on playing time and roughly $5 million in salary,” Spielberger writes. “Since Mayfield and Darnold were taken with the No. 1 and No. 3 overall picks in the 2018 Draft, Mayfield has earned an 80.0 passing grade compared to Darnold’s 58.5. He has a 6.1% big-time-throw rate (6th) compared to Darnold’s 3.6% (51st).”

Again, Smitty is cautiously optimistic about Mayfield

Yeah exactly. You can win and be competitive as long as you have decent play from the position. Darnold was far from decent. Jake at the middle of the pack go to as many Super Bowls and an elite talent like Cam did for us. People seem stuck on this we have to get a top 5 QB on suck until we do... -
That has so many variables in it to really worry about. 1. How good did HE play? Was it lighting it up and our defense letting him down? 2. What kind of contract is being offered? Mid level? Top 10? Getting us past 5 wins will be a good start. Helps us become somewhat respectable so the Staffords, Russ Wilsons, Watsons (thank God we dodged that) will actually consider us if another becomes available. Also we can just trade up and grab a top rated QB if we find one we like like the Chiefs did with Mahomes or the Niners are attempting with Lance. Staying at the bottom of the NFL and trying to draft one CAN work, but it also can turn into us with Cam's Panthers (good QB with not enough cast), Stafford with the Lions, Texans with Carr, Bengals with Palmer, Goff with the Rams, Bradford with the Rams, JaMarcus with the Raiders, Winston with the Bucs even Lawrence struggled with the Jags (jury is still out, but he didn't look like the next Andrew Luck last year). Trying to land a Burrow or Manning will be an extremely rare occurrence IMO. Build a team to win and be as competitive as possible and when the opportunity comes to acquire a talented QB pounce on it. That just seems more likely IMO then trying to stay at the bottom of the league until we find an elite QB.

If he blows then he walks into FA without costing us any more money. That’s one of the best parts about this trade IMO.

Give me 2020 Robbie and I’ll be happy. 21 Robbie wasn’t worth the headache…

This is it right here. If he fails we will be off the hook and only lose a future 4th/5th in 2024. His last healthy year he was top 10 in QBR, so there is definitely some potential there. Virtually no risk with a chance of reward…

We all know Corral will try to play through whatever injuries he will get like he did in college as well. Our medical staff better be keeping on eye on these players.
-
Didn't realize he also had a foot injury on his planting foot to go with his shoulder injury last year. The Browns should have held him out after those injuries. He is lucky his shoulder didn't get more severely injured taking hits. Reminds me of us letting Cam play through all kinds of injuries. These guys are on another level for competitiveness and the doctors/staff need to step in.

Nah I find it amusing how triggered you get by this. I come here to talk about football. You come to cry about your feelings. You might want to see a therapist instead….
-
Watch out you are going to trigger a certain someone…

Our LBs (which still suck) upgraded a little as well. This should help our run defense slightly, but I still see us as maybe middle of the pack in total defense providing Horn plays as well as advertised.

I’ve never heard of someone crying so much about a cheap ass trade like this. But crying is what I expect from you anymore.
-
Go get laid and get over your miserable self. Seriously do you have anything to contribute aside from your constant bitching and moaning?
-
Just reading his name makes me sick.
-
In the past absolutely. That is actually what made me happy about this trade. It was only a 2024 conditional 5th which should have very little impact on our future and no money is being pushed past this season.
-
Oh I doubt he will be a 10 year All-Pro. If he does then great. If he can make our offense respectable then I’ll be happy (especially for what he cost). I think Corral could be that guy. He needs a year to sit and learn the NFL speed and more complex offenses and Baker can allow that to happen while our offense gets clicking and ready for Corral next year. Let the new OL gel, Tremble and TMJ get some catches/experience which can lead to confidence. No offensive player was growing in the garbage we had last year.
-
I’m not. I’m comparing Baker to Goff, Winston, and whoever the Broncos had before Manning. We are currently bottom of the league, and Baker COULD help us get to where those teams were BEFORE those elite QBs were acquired.
-
I still can’t believe that offense beat our team in the big game. I don’t care how good their defense was….

The Chiefs are the only recent Super Bowl winners out of those teams unless you are including Flacco’s Ravens win. The Chiefs had an average QB in Smith who could get them in the playoffs but not much further BEFORE they traded up to acquire a QB in which they let him sit fit a while behind Smith. So we very well could be attempting their formula (only they have Reid and we have Rhule… yuck).

Looking at the recent Super Bowl winners Rams, Bucs, Eagles, Chiefs, Broncos all established solid teams before acquiring their Super Bowl winning QBs. The Chiefs drafted theirs, but traded up to get him as they were already a playoff team with an average QB in Smith. Bucs and Rams had average to below average QB play and build solid teams around them before trading for or signing their guy. Eagles won as a team with a journeyman QB filling in for their drafted one. Even if he doesn’t win a Super Bowl, have a decent QB to run our offense and build up our team is a big next step from constantly drafting in the top 10. We become more attractive for vet QBs that may want to leave their team for whatever reason or we can trade up and get our rookie to insert in an offense that isn’t limp and dead. Corral could even be that guy. Rolling it back with Sam and PJ is just hoping for the draft to save us.
