Wouldn't be the first time a team has IR'ed a player to save a roster spot and to keep a developmental player from being poached. Am I saying the injury is completely bogus? No, but I am saying that if not for this injury there would have been another one which really could have been questionable in another week or two. In short, Corral was going to IR at some point anyway, IMO.

Several...in attendance and watching on TV. The second playoff victory versus the Cowgirls was great one. It's hard to pick just one. But as many have said, X-clown has to be top 3. It doesn't get much more dramatic than a walk off TD in sudden death OT during the playoffs.

I should have put money on this, I was 100% sure Watson wouldn't get a full year. NFL judge goes light, the NFL steps in and flexes it's muscle (wink/nod) and the whole charade is over. The NFL can say they did the best they could invoking their most serious punishment and Watson still gets to play this year. Win/Win, just how it was scripted.

Watched the game at work, which was at a sports bar, but requested the night off for the game. I had recently moved to Raleigh and noticed the lack of Panthers following. So needless to say there wasn't many avid Panthers fans there (like none) but people interested in the game because it was a NFL playoff game. Being half crocked and yelling at the TV made me sort of a spectacle. When X clown happen, I ran around the room dishing out high fives to strangers and co-workers alike. It was awesome!

Upon further review Darnold had to keep back peddling because the interior of the OL got blown the fug up. One of their DTs and right end were at the 15 yard line when Darnold released the ball just shy of the 20. Where was the LOS? Lol, the 8 yard line!!! The 15 yard line is where Ickey lost his man that hit Darnold at the 19. Again, that's 7 yards behind the LOS. You can tell Ickey kind of let him go at that point. He was probably thinking "why is this dude still running up field?"
-
I saw the replay on Darnold's TD and it was on both players. Ickey was trying to push the edge rusher out and beyond where the QB typically would be. He was beat, but not as bad as it looked. Darnold kept fading back and even further back. The LT's job is to misdirect the edge rusher not shadow them 5-10 yards up field. Had Darnold stayed tight in the pocket, he probably got the ball out before the rusher gets to him avoiding the hit, otherwise it would have been roughing QB.

I think it was painfully obvious to anyone with a functioning brain, basic football knowledge and two working eyeballs that Darnold, PJ Walker and a kid that we caught form falling to the 4th round in a pretty bad QB draft wasn't the answer going forward this season. Call it hindsight 20/20 if people want to, I call it not being a complete moron. That said, I think Fitts pushed for Baker because he doesn't want to sink with Rhule aboard the USS Clusterfug.

We need an end, not a tackle. Sounding like a broken record going back to last year, but we are a Brian Burns injury away form having the weakest DE room in the League. YGM, still unproven. Haynes, a one trick pony--speed rush, and then a bunch of no-names.
-
Before the Jets settled in on a CB and took Sauce Garner, most mock drafts had Ickey penciled in for the Jets. Sucks for them and great for us that they decided to stick with Beckton.

TE, DE and LB look very iffy. But hey, I've only been saying this for a while.

Time to string Rap up by his toes. He says, Baker #1, Sam #2, Corral #3. TOTALLY unacceptable!!!
-
That, or he was intentionally left unblocked...such as setting up a quick screen.
-
Looks like today's practice was pretty uneventful form the updates with exception to the Baker to Anderson connection. Glad I stayed home.
-
Exactly. So we would be paying $18M for Darnold not to be on the roster. At that point why even worry about a trade? If we are going to eat his entire salary in a trade, just cut him and save the headache of shopping him. OR since his salary is fully guaranteed for this season anyway and he has no trade value, just keep him as a backup. Crazy thought, I know.
-
You people are aware that it's not unusual for teams to have 4 QBs in camp, right? Heard of the term 'camp arms?' Remember, we had some local kid from Elon as QB4 before the Baker deal. PJ Walker still being on the roster during camp means nothing more than you need at least 4 QBs, minimum, during training camp.
-
Sometimes you have to take your lumps and move on.
-
Fair enough, however I'm not worked up, lol. I am not a fan of Darnold. He's clearly a career backup from this point forward, but cutting a backup just because the fan base doesn't like him is kinda futile, especially given his cap hit. Rhule has given every indication Corral is being red shirted, so he is about the future, not the present. Again, once camp is over, Mayfield is going to gobble up nearly all, if not all, of the 1's reps. So the idea of Darnold retarding Corral's growth with the nearly non-existent in-season backup reps is pretty moot.
-
That is some really strong hope there my friend. I think you are looking at it form the wrong point of view though. The PANTHERS were not willing to take on more than $5M of Baker's salary and the Browns were not eating over $10M. That was the major sticking point. Baker had to eat $3.5M himself (could be made up in incentives) to make the trade work. So if we weren't willing to take on more than $5M to acquire Baker, what makes you think we are going to eat ANY of Darnold's contract just to be rid of him. Also, anything higher than a 6th is a pipe dream.
-
I get it, but until Rhule is fired we all have to deal with these decisions. In the immediate future we are dealing with Baker as the eventual #1 and Darnold being the veteran QB as the #2 and the rookie getting red shirted as the #3. My gripe, as with everyone, is Baker has already separated himself from Sam enough to be named the #1.
-
Call Rhule and tell him that then. Just because you think Corral should be the #2 doesn't mean Rhule does. Rhule has said Corral is being brought along slowly. Why do yo think Mayfield is here in the first place? If the staff thought Corral could push for the #1 or was good enough just to be handed the #2 spot then the wouldn't have seeking an upgrade even after drafting Corral. Just admit to hating Darnold. One-year deals are one-year deals, dude. No twisting of the facts can change that. Will Bozeman get another deal with us? Who knows? He's a FA just like Darnold after the season. What would be freaking hilarious (just to see the Huddle completely melt down) is Darnold signs another short-term deal after the season to compete with Corral as the #2.
-
Wow, the Darnold hate is strong here. I plainly said Baker should be getting the bulk of the snaps with the 1's and Darnold should be getting the backup scraps. However, I can't put this any more plain...Corral ISN'T PLAYING THIS YEAR, so Matt is not getting snaps 'stolen' from him by Darnold. The hate for Darnold is so bad that ANY reason is reason enough to cut him, even as the #2 QB. So folks on one-year deals are little benefit because they have no future here? I guess Bozeman and several others should clean out their lockers too.
-
Eh, okay, Darnold understands it best as he's been here all offseason and has taken the bulk of the offseason reps leading into camp. But sure, let's cut him just because 99.9% of the Huddle gets triggered by him simply being on this roster.
-
Darnold is already here getting paid and knows the system. Corral is sitting this year, period. I guess we could keep Walker as the primary backup over Darnold. Just for cap purposes alone that makes zero sense. Hopefully Baker is healthy all year and whomever is the backup is holding a clipboard until the end of the season.

Yup, those were the fun days. They actually hit too...after the first few practices, obviously. Fans could also get right up to the practice field, especially the lower one by the woods. Back then, the pads would really pop and the defense would get geeked after a big hit. Now, they get cut or have to run gassers for too big of a hit in practice. It wouldn't shock me if camp goes completely tackle free in the near future.
