  1. This is my mock version 3.0 for week 3 leading up to the draft. This is the one I personally would like to see happen, not what I think will happen. That one will be next week and my final mock for this thread. #8- QB Trey Lance-NDSU: (He slips past the 9ers and Falcons; nobody moves up, so we take him) #44 *TRADE w/ Dallas* G/C Quinn Mieinerz-UW-Whitwater: (Randunz and Cosmi are gone and a run on corners leave a void in value--we trade back to recoup the loss of our 4th next year) #73- LT Brady Christensen BYU (LT needy teams have already pounced, so we get our LT here) #113- CB Robert Rochell-Central Arkansas #138*Dallas*- CB Marco Wilson-Florida #151-DT Bobby Brown(1-tech)-Texas A&M #193- DT Cameron Sample- (3-tech) Tulane #222- DE Elerson Smith- Northern Iowa Got the QB, LT and center with needed depth on the D-line and corner. This would make me very happy with our draft!
  2. Eh, I'm not so sure about the first two picks. At #15, I'm okay with Surtain, but only if all 3 OTs are gone. Little bothers me. He's injuring plagued and sat out last year. I really like the Meinerz, Smith, Williams and Jackson picks.
  3. Here are the threshold numbers Darnold needs to achieve for me to believe he's a good QB that the Jets simply sabotaged because they are an incompetent organization: - 9 wins -27 total TDs (including rushing) -12 or fewer picks -More than 3,750 passing yards -TWO 1,000 yard receivers at minimum (yes, that can include CMC) -QB rating north of 95 -QBR over 65 - Yards per game greater than 250 on average *All of this would put him in the top half of starting QBs based on last year's stats. If a QB isn't in the top half of his peer group in comparison, then he's not that good.
  4. People are now mocking Meinerz in the second round. Chances of him being around at #73 are fading fast.
  5. If Sewell and Lance are gone, I'm all for moving back a FEW spots and taking Slater or Darrisaw. Certainly one of them will be there. I'm leaning Darrisaw though. I honestly think Slater will be an good tackle, but if someone takes him as a guard in a zone blocking scheme, dude will be a perennial Pro Bowler.
  6. Player grades versus drafting trends often don't match up especially the deeper in the draft you get. While you may be a stickler on your grades, all you have to do is go to history to figure out roughly the same amount of players at each position are drafted every year. Even if you consider this a weak DT class, I can promise you more than 4 DTs will be selected by the end of day two. Nearly two dozen DTs get drafted each year, so I can't see roughly 20 of those coming just on day 3.
  7. There, that seems more accurate.
  8. He has the most upside of the 'big 4'. His biggest knock is his not ready to start now. With Darnold here, he wouldn't have to AND we won't have to fall back on Teddy either. Slater I'm okay with, just not at #8. If we move back 3-4 spots and he's still there, I'm good with it. I agree, I think he's a better athlete than a completely rounded OT. Having two franchise QBs on rookie deals sets us up for big things in two years when Darnold is set to be a FA. Most teams would be jealous to be in such a situation. I was really opposed to an OT with our first round pick, but now Darnold is here, It's right there at the top of the list. If we do draft Sewell, I'll be very happy.
  9. I'll be happy with Sewell or Lance; Slater as a distant 3rd. Anything else is going to be somewhat of a letdown. If we take a skill position without a trade down, I'm throwing something at the TV.
  10. That's roughly the number of undrafted guys we sign every year after the draft. I doubt we add many more FAs, 1 or 2 max, if any at all.
  11. We traded for a QB and his name isn't Deshaun Watson. Can we move on now? This was unbearable even when the Panthers were being linked to him. Now it's time to move on. Yes, I know it's still the offseason, but some topics need to be put to rest.
  12. Hard to tell. The value is cusp of end round 1/top round 2. The Bears would REALLY have to love a player to give their 2022 first round pick because, in all likelihood, it's going to be a fairly high pick. It would most likely be their 2nd plus something else to sweeten the deal.
  13. All day 3 selections. So we are apparently looking at CB and WR in the 5th and 6th rounds. That had better be the SECOND corner taken if we wait that late to draft one. I've been mocking CB in the 3rd or 4th round. I've got my sights set on Adebo and Rochell.
  14. I would suggest the lubricated ones then.
  15. For a 6th round pick, you are taking a gamble anyhow. I don't like the really big guys like Slanton and Shelvin. Once DTs get north of 330, they are basically glorified speed bumps to simply occupy O-linemen. I think Rhule values DTs that can get up the field, especially those from a 1-tech spot.
  16. My take based on availability (top 2 QBs 100% gone): A) Lance/Fields B) Sewell C) Slater D) Pitts E) Trade down We know Lawrence and Wilson are gone. Miami, Philly or Detroit will take the top WR. One of the two between Fields and Lance will be 99.9% gone. That's four selections leaving at least one of those options unless another WR is selected. My thought is we are left with the option of Slater or a trade down. I don't like Surtain at #8, BTW. You only take generational corners like Revis in the top 10 and while very good, he is not that.
  17. This is all about taking value in the draft. CB was the last glaring hole heading into the draft. I had been drafting two corners in the majority of my mocks. Now we don't have to reach for any needs.
  18. FWIW, I've been doubling down at DT and using one of our 6th rounders on Bobby Brown or Tonga for a 1-tech. That way we have a bunch of young studs on rookie deals in the middle of the D-line.
  19. I've been mocking Togiai with out 4th rounder a good bit. He gets after the QB and would be a nice 3-tech for us. Him or Williams for La. Tech.
  20. Yup and Fields/Lance are much better prospects than Love. You can never have too many good options at QB and besides, Sam Darnold is no Aaron Rogers.
  21. I do. You draft the guy, period. You have an ace of spades in your back pocket. a) Competition for Darnold--he can't rest on his laurels. Getting pushed by Walker or Grier? L-O-L!!!!! b) If Darnold doesn't work out, we are not back in the same spot by already drafting his replacement. c) If Darold doesn't work out, it gives the rookie a year to learn the NFL and our scheme. d) If Brady works magic with Daronld, we have a HUGE bargaining chip with a 1st round QB in trade. e) We could be a cherry scenario of having a starting level QB and a starting-caliber backup.
