  1. If Sewell or Slater are still options at 8 and we ultimately wind up with that super hard to get your hands on, most pressing of all needs a.... ...slot receiver... ..then I am gonna be pissed.
  2. Good way to handle it. Let them get that initial visibility, so the whole community has a chance to look, them move them to the appropriate place. Thanks for making this.
  3. My dream is Sewell in the first, a solid Guard prospect in the second, maybe a good TE or safety in the third.
  4. Regardless of whether Darnold is the answer or not, whatever QB is the answer won't be unless he's playing behind a solid O line. Build the line while you find out if that's Darnold, Either way you're going to need that line.
  5. Do not want non pass rushing lb at 8. In the pass wacky NFL of today, lb's that don't primarily rush the passer are the least important position on the defensive side of the ball. They just don't merit top 10 picks IMO because their ability to impact the outcome of the game is limited relative to other positions. Top 10 picks should primarily be QB's, tackles O and D, pass rushers, and elite corners. These are the positions that have the greatest combination of ability to impact outcome and significant gap between what a top prospect gives you vs a mid round guy. As much as I loved Kuechley, his ability to alter outcomes, even as the best player in the league at his position, was limited, because of his position. And even as an elite player, the difference between what he gave you and what a run of the mill starter who could be drafted in mid rounds gave you at MLB, was not as big as the difference between a middle of the road corner, and an elite one. Loved Luke, hated prioritizing and overspending at the position he played.
  6. To me the more important issue than whether DJ is elite or not is whether having an elite receiver seems to make much difference in winning Super Bowls. In the past decade, of the 10 SB winning rosters, the only WR who was playing at an elite level the year his team won that I can think of is MAYBE Tyreek Hill for the Chiefs when they won. Other than that, WR play on SB winning teams tends to be solid, not spectacular. Aside from SB winners, if you just examine overall winning teams compared with teams that have elite WR's, I'd say subjectively it looks to me like there is little correlation between having a truly elite WR and overall team success. When factoring in Brady's success as an elite qb known to have played with average to good WR's but rarely elite, but who famously just throws the ball to the guy who is open, I'd posit that it's possible truly elite WR's may be a net negative to winning because while they do have to be game planned against, perhaps they warp their own team's offense towards their own production in a fashion that leads to flashy stats for one player, but not more W's for the team. Right now and in recent memory, who are the truly elite WR's? Collectively, what have they actually won?
  7. I'd say that in this situation a "life coach" or "professional mentor" would be a poor substitute for parents who raised you to (at best) have the sense not to put yourself in this sort of situation as a highly visible, highly paid professional athlete, or at at worst, not to treat women this way.
  8. I'd just like to take this opportunity to point out that out of all the males in the whole world, only one dated Sandy Sommer in high school, Shannon McCorkle in college, and Jenny Blackwelder in her bikini wearing 20's prime. Out of 3 billion plus males, I'm the only one who fits into that category. Clearly I'm an elite level boyfriend. It's not even close.
  9. This. Getting more and more exited about the possibility we might actually get to draft Sewell. If he's as good as advertised, we could have a pretty solid line next year, especially if the defensive free agents mean they also pick up a quality guard prospect in later rounds. Solid oline and quality offensive weapons give you your best chance to find out what you have in Darnold without ifs ands or buts.
  10. Gold star to you sir for recognizing an obscure quote from an overlooked 90's movie with great one liners.
  11. Adam Gase is bad. Just in case you didn't know. That is all.
  12. I think it's meant to keep us from drafting a qb in the first out of desperation if all the best options are taken, which seems likely. If somebody falls unexpectedly, I don't see any reason they couldn't still draft one.
  13. Good call. Make sure they build up a tolerance while they're still young, so you don't have to worry if they'll be able to hold their liquor when they become teenagers. I like the way you think. Future Jets fans, better start em drinking young.
  14. if Jimmy cracks corn and I don't care, why bother to write a song about it? Also, why did your fanbase not collectively storm Gase's (I assume) gated community, break down his door and lynch him? If ever there was a fanbase frustrated enough to resort to mob tactics, and if ever there was a head coach who so obviously deserved it, surely Jets fans and Gase should have transported the rest of the football world back to the era of the French Revolution. In short I am disapointed you all did not engage in more bloodshed. I expect to be better entertained going forward.
  15. My gut says Darnold isn't the second coming or he would have likely found a way to look at least somewhat better than he did with the Jets, but I think odds are good he can look much better with us than he did with them. I suspect we'll look back and decide that the draft capital we gave to get him was a pretty good deal, but the move wasn't a blockbuster. A 2nd a 4th and a 6th for a middle of the road NFL starter isn't a bad deal at all, and I suspect that's about where Darnold will land once away from the swamps of New Jersey.
