  1. And three first rounders for a guy that has approx. 300 College throws makes sense?
  2. Apparently, if you believe the stories coming out of Santa Clara, the 49ers didn't actually know they were taking Lance until Monday. Which sounds terrifying as they traded three first round picks for a Draft slot without a name in mind.
  3. That's what I'm saying - they traded down to #52 and saw Jenkins, Eichenberg, Little, and Cosmi taken off the board. We traded down again (I quite liked JOK, but whatever) to #59 and saw Radunz taken off the board too. Obviously Jalen Mayfield was taken off the board at #68 and suddenly we traded up to take Christensen at #70. Which is why I wonder if they panicked and traded up - and I'd love to know how they graded all of the guys that were taken between #39 and #70. I suspect this is the 'gut punch' moment Fitterer referenced in the post-Draft press conference.
  4. No, the one where Rhule was sat in a hotel at the Combine and a Comms staffer showed him Newton's 'respect' IG post. Rhule has a pretty good poker face, but you could see he was done with Newton at that point.
  5. Well on the FA market Mitch Trubisky signed a 1 year, $2.5m contract with a team that (bar injury) he has ZERO chance of winning the starting job on. Darnold was traded for by the Panhters and we weren't his only suitors. Not to mention the Jets GM said he'd have stuck with Darnold is they didn't have the 2nd overall pick and wanted Wilson (he had no reason to say that). Evidently the NFL has spoken on both players.
  6. What competition would you have brought into the QB room this offseason?
  7. How come people throw Steve Smith comparisons around with every 5'9" receiver? I never hear people throw around Randy Moss comparisons for... well, anyone. Smith is in that same rarefied air for mine - just a unique, brilliant player.
  8. He had every intention of coaching Newton. After that IG post though he was done.
  9. It fundamentally changes the rules of the game.
  10. Tampa Bay have two Kickers that are better than anything we have. I'm not sure why we didn't address the position this offseason.
  11. Because Darnold is much better than Trubisky.
  12. Let's revisit it in three years to see if he was right. NFL teams using premium picks on QBs does not automatically make them great. Trey Lance is the one I'm most eager to watch - two guys who I think are excellent talent evaluators said he's the kind of pick that loses a GM his job. Fingers crossed that's true.
  13. That trade up for Christensen shows how desperate we were to ensure we got him.
  14. Mond was taken at the top of the third round and we traded UP to select Christensen 4 picks later. No dice.
  15. I think Moore will play C for us, if he makes the roster.
  16. Wait, did you just call CB a luxury position? Have you SEEN the numbers bang average WRs and QBs are putting up these days!?
  17. I get Jordan Gross vibes from Christensen i.e. a guy that looks like he's doing just enough to survive out there, but 60 minutes go by and you realise the DE hasn't done anything all game. If he pans out I think he'll be a very solid Zone LT. I don't see him having the strength to move inside.
  18. I thought it was our weakest day of the Draft because we veered away from our 'high character, exceptional athlete for the position' formula, but I didn't hate it. Some very flawed prospects, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if they all made the roster. I'm baffled that Hubbard and Nixon fell that far - one guy ran for 2k yards in the Big 12 and the other was the Big 10 DPOTY AND they're both exceptional athletes so it's not just College smoke and mirrors. Really happy with those two picks.
  19. Yes and no RE: Grier. Personally I don't think he's any less talented than a Trask / Mond et al, but Rhule is very careful not to exclude players when he's throwing around platitudes. With regards to Darnold, whilst I think he was Plan C, Plan A and B were shots at established, upper echelon NFL starters. I've no doubt they looked at the tape in NY and thought "they've done this kid dirty, he can play". The Jets have realised that too because they've immediately invested a boatload of Draft resources into help for Wilson. That said, Darnold will have a short leash. He'll be given every opportunity he didn't have in NY (we're building a team around him now), but as we saw with Bridgewater - it's perform or get out of the way.
  20. Honestly the relief in Tepper's voice during that phone call to Christensen tells me that he was literally the last OT on our Big Board. They absolutely didn't expect that run on OTs to happen when they traded down from #39.
  21. We'd have ended up higher, but we tanked our score in the final two rounds.
