Josina Anderson: Panthers NOT trading Adam Thielen
frankw replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Darnold is still the same QB and has now officially bounced around the league. Baker Mayfield had much more success both in college and with the Browns albeit short lived there. Baker got a heaping portion of humble pie from that and his disaster of a time here. You don't see him hocking anymore cheesy t-shirts with his mug on them like he did here do you? And as much as he's turned things around we've still seen glimpses of the same old Baker. He was abysmal against us in Charlotte last year. Sooner or later he's going to hit another rough patch. -
6 pass attempts 5 sacks. Damn.

Good to see some other folks are speaking the same language on this. It's simple common sense. But it seems like there's a disconnect due to the misplaced value the team has put on Thielen because he was the only vaguely good veteran WR willing to sign with the Panthers after we traded away DJ Moore. That time has come and gone. We have two first round WR's on the roster now. -
Sounds like a safe space.

Eh. Ultimately they got abused badly when they faced a more stout contender in the Ravens last year. I watched that one and while they have made improvements to that roster it's still a work in progress. And ultimately they are an injury or two away from tough predicaments like any other team. And they have dealt with that along the way. And let's consider that for a moment. For so long now we've used injuries or lack of depth as an excuse for bad football. But there are other teams out there that while they might stumble a bit they don't utimately fall down a flight of stairs to the cellar because of it. Our Panthers however? Well you know. -

Well you would think the people in the front office and on staff would consider that and a light bulb would go off. But. They were hired by the Tepper's after all. -
Panthers continually seem to fumble this position. At this point just give a young promising kicker the keys and roll the dice.

Best case scenario this season is Bryce either looks like a top 12 QB or he is awful again. For me. Either way. They need to draft a developmental QB next year even if Bryce emerges. We can't keep treating the QB room like this. -

For whatever one may feel about this situation it is interesting viewing other teams around the league like the Texans who already have two playoff wins the last two years operating much differently. The oldest WR on their roster is 29 and they just traded away a 24 year old WR for a player and a pick. We don't have to like it but from a neutral perspective it is worth pondering if the Panthers are continuing to move like a losing franchise. -

He's marginally better than Plummer but that's a subterranean low bar. I think most people know Perkins is a jag at best. But it's through no fault of ours we find ourselves in this situation. The responsibility rests with Dan Morgan. -
Tyson Bagent in one preseason game had more passing touchdowns than our whole QB room.

I agree with you. All I can say for sure is I am beyond coddling. We coddled Darnold. We've coddled Bryce. Enough is enough. It's time to show up and show out.

Our third year 1st overall pick QB needs Thielen for that? I thought this guy was a savant field general aka a smaller Peyton Manning?

Either way he's out of here next year for nothing. You guys can shout into the void about what you think he's worth the league doesn't care. -

To be clear. By definition the players considered to be "assets" here actually have a long term future. Thielen does not fall into that category as he has no future here and we have three (arguably four) promising young WR's already on the roster. And we already have veterans Moore and Renfrow. I think there are people in this thread mistaking their own personal attachment for actual value. -

Jesus Christ dude our passing offense was 32 out of 32 the year he eclipsed 1k yards with us. Be rational. -

Dan Morgan will trade up into the second round to draft an RB with a torn ACL but won't take a 4th for a 35 year old WR who will walk and or retire for nothing next year. -

Hopkins went for a 5th last year and we asked for a 3rd. Hilarious. -

This is not a playoff team barring an angels in the outfield level miracle. It is and always was a developmental season. And at some point your QB has to elevate those around him as he was drafted to do regardless. -

That's a young draft pick for a guy who guaranteed will not be playing for the team next season. You guys are too attached. And the players you're attached to aren't even that good. -

Honestly getting a 4th would be borderline robbery on our part. -
10/10 film.
