Bryce could be a future cautionary tale...
frankw replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
Ah yes I see someone is employing that ol' revisionist history about the 2023 Houston Texans roster as if anyone here back in May of that year had the team that was one play away from the first overall pick the season before pegged as playoff bound and winning a playoff game with a rookie QB. It couldn't be that the presence of CJ Stroud's phsyical abilities as a passer has an effect of elevating those around him like other elite QB's before him. Which is a very common expectation for any passer picked within the top 3 picks of the draft yet for some reason here on the huddle it is unreasonable and a sign of blind hate for said QB. -
You cannot start Bryce Young again. He is not an NFL player.

The OL is absolutely doing work out there plays are available. I never co-signed the endless excuses about last years OL though. Was it bad? Of course. Were there still some solid opportunities that any starting QB worth their salt should be capable of making? Absolutely. Sam Howell was sacked as many times as BY was last year and was 12th in YPG while Bryce was bottom 15. The Commanders shipped his ass out. Meanwhile some people are still making excuses for Young. Wild. -

If we can get him a real QB I think Legette is going to be good for us. -
Monday Brew: Dealing with loss, and moving forward
frankw replied to Carolina Panthers's topic in Carolina Panthers
I just saw the news. What a loss. Too many classics to list them all but one of my favorite underrated ones was his performance in Conan the Barbarian. He played an excellent villain. But he was a fantastic human being that inspired generations. RIP. -

So what this all boils down to is you think those who differ from your POV of endless excuses want the Panthers and their QB1 to be the biggest laughingstock in the league just so they can say I told you so?
-
I would argue you are simply making excuses and carrying water but if you think you're making an actual point then proceed.
-
Oh man I forgot about the talk of his arm "elasticity" hahaha. That was a key point to shout down any talk of perceived lack of arm strength compared to Stroud AR or Levis. Shows how truly desperate the talking heads were who were only worried about saying nice things about Alabama.

Wasn't he the one that returned a Bryce Young pick for a TD in camp? Too bad they don't get to play against Bryce for 17 games eh?

Would the Carolina Panthers move on from QB Bryce Young?

Didn't you initiate this by quoting CRA? Now you're apparently under some bizarre attack? Settle down. We can argue about specifically what he did or didn’t do in the offseason all we want but the simple fact of the matter is Bryce Young has not made any progress developmentally and we cannot place blame everywhere else but him any longer. The time for scapegoats is gone. He has to stand on his own two feet. He isn't in college anymore. I look at BY and simply do not see a #1 pick that is concerned with becoming one of the best QB's in the NFL let alone competing for and winning one or more championships. I see the same prospect I was concerned about before the draft. He had been given the best to work with in high school and college and afforded every excuse possible before entering the NFL while CJ Stroud was dragged through the mud as much as possible before the draft. What adversity has he ever had to face before this? It's time for some hard truths and tough love. Enough whispering sweet nothings in his ear from our staff and org. This is not a daycare. Step up and own your shortcomings and commit to striving to become a better player or get out as far as I'm concerned. No more coddling.
-
Matthews and Sanders. Damn that hype machine disintegrated quick! Our two OL signings are certainly holding up their end of the bargain.
-
Immediately after the season he dipped out on football entirely like it's just a job and then did the bare minimum working out with TMJ and then showed up to camp looking exactly the same. What a strong offseason. He is Sam Darnold without any of the phsyical traits. Time to face the music.
-
Coach speak or not. The coddling is insane. At what point does this org and staff stop shitting on their own fanbase and acknowledge reality?
-
This kid has 38 million guaranteed to continually be the worst starting QB in the entire NFL. We don't need these sob stories. He's laughing all the way to the bank no matter what.

I'm reminded of this fluff article the Panthers bot posted in early August talking up how much the players specifically the starters appreciated Dave Canales even though there was skepticism amongst the fans that the overall approach to camp and preseason seemed to be giving the appearance of what can only be described as "soft". Fast forward to week 1 being one of the worst ass whoopings in the history of the franchise and.....
-
Well he certainly earned it with how he had the starters being coddled in camp and sitting out preseason like we were coming off a Super Bowl appearance and not the worst record in the league.
-
For added perspective. The Bobcats hold the record for the worst single season win % in NBA history. Still not as bad as Tepper.

Derrick Brown potential season ending knee injury
frankw replied to UNCrules2187's topic in Carolina Panthers
Actually if you look at the touches his usage is up and likely only going to increase given his contract. He just is willing to play through injuries there because he is where he wants to be whereas here he was over it and not wanting to risk himself just to lose. I don't necessarily blame him but we paid him a ton of money. Truth is truth. -
I don't think even Tepper is that stubborn. The fanbase is already becoming nonexistent. Another season of this they may as well move the damn team.

Derrick Brown potential season ending knee injury
frankw replied to UNCrules2187's topic in Carolina Panthers
No you're just being realistic. All last year the offense put the defense in bad positions and kept them on the field. All things considered they were at least decent most of the time. The defense could have done much better yesterday but this is an offensive league ffs. When you invest what we have into the offense to the detriment of the defense you expect a hell of a lot better than that. We have been trying to build around our first overall pick. He still stinks. And it's having a ripple effect to the rest of the team. -

Snakebit. That's all I can say. -
I'm out of pie but when I re-up I got you guys. Some great content here since last night. But I couldn't agree more. Let's not forget his dad was on X lobbying for the team to take his choice of WR. The level of entitlement is astounding. Clearly passed this on to Bryce who before last season looked like he had never faced any true adversity in his life.
-
Multiple coaches have already fallen on their swords for Bryce Young. We have tried to scapegoat everyone and everything possible to avoid facing reality. That's over. What we are seeing is why ultimately nobody else seemingly wanted this head coaching job or the general manager job. By taking the job you were immediately beginning your first attempt by taking a huge L. Everyone that watched last season knew Bryce had low odds of becoming a franchise QB from that. Only cope filled fans here truly believed something special was brewing. We always knew when Canales took this job it was not tied to his ability or inability to salvage Bryce Young. The same would have been said for anyone who took the job at this point. You remove the common thread at the center of the issues and from there try to get a picture of what you've got. Until then. Unless you want to remain a dumpster fire and the worst team in the league for several more years you take a deep breath and approach this rationally. Yes give Canales tons of flack for his dumb ass approach to preseason. But talk of firings at this point is not going to solve anything as much as it sounds appealing to our need for instant gratification. Just put Bryce Young in the rearview.

Here's the rub. If your #1 pick QB is any good at anything whatsoever you won't see people on random fan communities having to shout down any and all criticism to the point of basically creating an echo chamber. Those people deserve yesterday.
