Mike Kaye, Observer comment on Wilks support
Gerry Green replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
The LIons D has been improving. But they are still susceptible to big plays, and giving up scores. Our D is better than theirs. Their O is better than ours. Even Steven. -

I was hoping for more of a collaborated effort. As long as Tepper is seen and not heard, we should be ok. -

I was going to say that with 3 weeks left, we could get some valuable evaluation time. But with the way this year is ending. Not sure we will get much of that. An honest offseason player evaluation must be high on the list. -

I would think that without some luck. We are looking at another 2 maybe even 3 years before we can celebrate. But I will add. That with everything that has to happen this offseason. It is going to be a bumpy ride. -

That's basically all I'm saying. This team is on the cusp. With a little luck. We can crest that hill and join the contenders club. -

some ppl want to lose because...well, reasons. Which is fine some ppl want to win because...well, reasons. Which is fine High picks are nice, I enjoy having them. But it takes losing to get em I would much rather win. Winning begets winning Happy Holidays to you and yours. -

I understand that a HC is going to be first on the agenda. Hopefullly followed by HC, Fitz and everybody involved in the process figuring out he QB position. Unlike you, I see a team that has a solid foundation. There is plenty for the new coach to work with. Sans a QB. -

I want a coach that will come in and Continue the culture Wilks has started. Not tear it down and take a year or more instilling his own culture. I think the next coach should be able to work with Fitz and his team to continue to build this team into a consistent winner. The core is there. Work together to finish the job. IF we ever get a QB -

Wilks Defense was good enough to get him a HC gig. So if you are saying he didn't deserve that, then you have to admit he was pretty much a Rooney hire, and set up to fail. Because he was pretty much underqualified to be a HC at that time. At this time. He has a young team believing in itself. With a ragtag team of QBs, and an OC who just doesn't seem to get it. I'm not saying I specifically want Wilks. But he wouldn't be the worst hire we . could make. -

See, I don't get this. IMO counting Zona against him is a little unfair. He was set up to fail. They wanted Kingsbury. So all we really have to go on is what he's done here. And to make any definitive statements now seems a tad disingenuous. He has a team with limitations. Maybe he is coaching that way to mitigate mistakes? There is a possibility that given a well-rounded team, with a competent OC, that he may coach in a different manner. If he is here next year. I hope he is given a QB, and a competent OC. IMO, that would be a team to reckon with. -
The “Maybe Not So Obvious” Elephant in the Room

I have been thinking about this (I know, shocking) a lot. And the one thing I can think of that may ease your pain is that Tepper has the best FO around him since he arrived. I think a Consultant for the HC job is a must. But I also think that once you narrow the field. That is when the FO gets involved. As long as Tepper listens and rarely speaks, we just might make a good hire. My one true hope is that our next Coach, whether it be Wilks or not, is that that Coach be willing and able to hit the ground running. Wilks has started a nice culture, I want that next HC to continue that. Not waste a year or more starting his own. Happy Holidays to you and yours. -

You keep saying this is a "Bad football team". You do know that there are many, many ppl who ascribe to the notion that this is a pretty good young team, that only needs a quality QB, and an imaginative OC to compete. Happy Holidays to you and yours. -

You betca. There are literally a million decisions to be made this offseason. Some I fear, will not be met with open arms. While others will be seen as the answer to our prayers. And at the same time as well. Thanks goodness I don't have a life. Cuz I wouldn't miss this for anything. -
Giving Wilks a chance to finish building the culture he has started would be great. Or at least bring in a coach that can keep it going and not start all over again. In the end, I just want the Powers That Be to make an educated and informed decision.

There are quite a few who believe that giving Wilks a quality QB an imaginative OC. And he can win. We are still young. But we are building a culture under Wilks. I would hate for that to crumble if the next coach can't/won't build upon it. We are closer than a lot of ppl will let on. That next coach, whether it be Wilks or not, needs to be able to hit the ground running. Not wasting a year or more starting over. -
That a perfect wife thing to do. Burst my bubble. Happy frigging Holidays to you. lol That is true. But if you want to stay, you can stay. Well, how about making it so there are multiple ASSTs to the OC. He can't take everyone dang it.

I think Wilks has been told he has the job. (Speculation)
Gerry Green replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'll admit that when we win, my days seem happier. Or at least for as long as I can avoid the wife. lol When we lose, I mope until I turn to the next game. Just watching these mostly huge guys doing amazing things is enough to get me out of that mini funk. Football is entertainment. No reason to give it so much gravatas. -
There is a workaround if you are afraid of losing your OC. Create an ASST OC position. Let the OC teach him everything he can so when he leaves you have his replacement ready to go. Rinse and repeat and you'll never run out of OCs. Or, just hire Scott Turner as coach. He's been around the game all his life. He has contacts to help him build a staff. And he is imaginative. Either route works for me. But then again, I'm married so I'm not used to getting my own way very often.

This team started 1-4 then fired its coach. If we make the Playoffs, that would be a excellent finish to a horrendous start. It would be a building block the players could be proud of. Instead of being proud of our team for fighting their way out of a bad situation. We have a poo ton of folks who are upset because we didn't lose enough. No, we may not win the SB this year. But this team is learning and growing. Give it a QB and an imaginative OC and this team could eat. -

Because Wilks knows that every time we win, there are literally tens of Huddlers who lose their minds. The guy has a wicked sense of humor. -
I find it absolutely hilarious that the "Tanker" get so angry whenever someone mentions winning. Like it's a Mortal Sin to want your team to win. That, and how superior they act, like they are on to some secret cheat code that us normal folks cannot see. I cannot fathom why someone would root for their supposed favorite team to lose. The mind boggles.

Unfortunately, you're not the only one who would rather attack someone than admit you made a mistake. Sad.

It was a Panther win was it not? I'm not the one who said we never beat the Steelers. It was in the post you quoted.
