Jay Gruden on Bryce Young: He looks small and plays small
strato replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
The thing I feel about going with an offensive minded coach is (you will be) getting a team that is what people are calling soft. Finesse over toughness. That is my perception of offensive minded football teams. You aren’t going to get Tough from people who obsess over route concepts and poo, it just a more intellectual approach than a physical one. It is almost a given to me, and why I prefer (or tend to) defensive guys setting the tone. -

Bro, isn't that what pretending is? Or maybe, lying to yourself is a better description. But go for it. -
Nutshell.

No taste left since the internet. Well, plenty of poor taste, I was talking good taste. -

Not saying you are wrong. The all of a sudden thing, you said it yourself. Until last year. Like in the SEC the typical DE was big and fast. NFL will cull most of them. What is left is bigger tougher better and just as fast or faster. Ever hear of the Peter Principle? If not, basically you do well and move up. You will keep moving up until it gets too hard for you. Then, you don't move up any more because the job requires all of your abilities and you no longer are top dog. That is a loose interpretation. -
I was going through YouTube shorts and checking the pulse, and all were pretty disappointed in Bryce but then McShay comes up and it is just like last season. Something something ‘sucking his soul’ something something Take me back. I guess he is invested. Or is it a new angle on hating on Tepper, where Young is the victim?

That was happening last year too, people overlooked it. He can't see them I think. There is also that Alabama open vs NFL open, and I believe that was a factor as well. He held the ball a lot. Right off the bat Canales said 2.7 seconds. Because he held the ball, just as much as it was said to help him avoid sacks.

Everyone should have seen the disaster around Bryce coming

I still think of them as San Diego. Probably always will. -
Maybe we can lure Costanza out of retirement. He was on to something.

That's probably who was secretly consulting with Nicole and Dave. -

From the heart, can't fault it. I can dig the don't watch or watch football 'elsewhere', but I can't play pretending sunshine and lollipops no matter how bad it is. -
I think he might have just tried that. He gave up trying to play in his correct mechanics model and went to what he knows. I thought, anyhow. It looked like it Sunday and this QB school video isolated a lot of it that you can see pretty clearly. I know he can be better but kind of tired of waiting for it. You have to be repeatable to a high degree. Unless you have your technique straight you are not going to be as good as you could be. And his margins are so slim. (and he has abandoned his technique) So it is hard. And it isn't like he ha really done much of anything at all to look to for encouragement. It's bleak. I am human tonight on Wednesday so I can feel like I hope for his sake he plays better. But on Sundays I am not going to be forgiving until you earn it. We'll see.

Quality. Lol. -
I don't know about that, he might look okay. I was thinking though, of Vinnie (Vinny?) Testaverde getting off his couch at 42 or something and throwing bombs back in 2007. Old washed up off the couch would run this offense.

I am sorry to whoever was a fan of Bryce Young for the NFL... They lost their minds. Supposed to be professionals. I can't accept that certain people didn't see this. I don't know for sure who is to blame for leading the organization into that decision, but I hope they know. -

I enjoyed that, watched most of it. Thanks. Gruden knows a little bit, and I like that he will just say what he thinks rather than temper it to not hurt someone's feelings. I am sure he did temper here and there but it was more honest, less tentative with his words then what I have been exposed to. Seemed confident in what he was saying. -
We can waive his ass and someone could claim him, technically. Which is the only way I'd take a look at him. But, I've had a good enough look.

Chargers Sign CB Dicaprio Bootle To Practice Squad
strato replied to Basbear's topic in Carolina Panthers
I know.. no one needs intel on handling the offense. And the D is so weak, but they operate like they operate and that is one of the prescribed strategies. -
Pundits... are bullshitters and follow narratives like lemmings. No penalty to them if they miss, like weather forecasters.

Reading this will be fun. Repetitive, but fun.

"Maybe you should find another team to vote for" and, gotta say, I watched Arizona and Murray, he is crazy little also. I don't want any of that small mighty mouse demographic at QB in the NFL.

Kind of weird, he was signed here exactly a year ago on 9/11. Signs with LA on 9/11. He isn't in line yet for those guaranteed vet deal where they will not sign you until after week 1, I don't think. If you need a CB, may as well get one that can help you with your opponent. -
The "if he wants to play" words have meaning. I happened to see a clip of him talking about playing just this morning. I am no doctor and don't know what exactly is it that can't at least get better - if not heal back to original condition? It be funny to see him and Young in pads next to each other. (if that sounds like pining, it isn't, I don't favor or consider that being an option for 2024)
-
That is what a guy who had to change his mechanics look like. Thinking. And we saw him revert to that meander, face the LOS the whole way, whatever you call that. The stuff he was being re-trained out of. I never thought he could do it in a camp. It is just not something that is done at the NFL level.
-
I will say this. If it works out like that Young doesn't get a ton better, like totally change my mind, and they force us to watch him all year if we want to watch the game... one word from them about fixing him and 2025, I am out for good. Like that minute. No more NFL. Canales gets the Bryce excuse treatment from me. I reserve the right to bitch about him some, but I'll be standing by the plan for this season. Free year to learn, then he is on probation the next year. If he 'behaves' that year, he is good.
