  1. Number one it was my bad because I must have overlooked the backup stipulation. I wouldn’t have argued that at all. Top 10 backup? Yeah I agree. And I am not lobbying hard for QB 3 because I agree more or less with what you I am responding to. I don’t don’t feel like typing a ton of stuff arguing, normally because it gets to be a two way back and forth in a thread for one, and that usually ruins them. edit: but there is nothing wrong with wanting players to earn their jobs through legitimate competition. Obviously we aren’t getting that with Bryce... not even the illusion of it.
  2. And to the pull Bryce if he sucks suggestions... (if that ios the outcome) please do not until we are assured of a great draft position. He can pay us back a little bit that way.
  3. Obvious but overlooked? To the Sewer for Ewers
  4. Dalton borderline top 10? Might be stretching things a little. I don’t think he was in consideration to be anything other than a bridge QB before he joined the Panthers. Is that wrong? Sorry to be disagreeable, but unless something has changed - one the first things out of his mouth was 'I am here to back up Bryce’ or other words, but expressing the same idea. Clearly he was brought in to be that and took the gig under those parameters. That was last year, is it different now? If I bet, I would bet on Canales having a condition or two placed on his employment regarding Bryce. Ride with 9, no QB controversy. Job is to grow him into a legit starter. I don’t know anything obviously, but that’s my guess. I wanted competition because I don’t believe it would have been hard to beat Bryce out*, and I wanted better. That was the low hanging stuff. I have refined that into he needs at least some kind of threat to his job, pushing him. Or an illusion of it, just to make him better. edit* now that I think about it a bit more my big deal was I wanted him to at least show he could beat someone out and not be just handed the job.
  5. I think you are arguing something I am not. Or I attempted to say something but failed. Both probably. I was basically guided by the idea that our entire personnel acquisition philosophy was slanted heavily to the needs of the specific QB. Wondered if building the line in the Brees approved fashion was the option we would have chosen in a normal situation. It is all seen through a small QB filter. I mean, most people rationalized that we’d benefit from the guards with whatever QB, so did I. And it should be true. Given the objections to the C plan, I was looking at what they might have done differently, or wondering if a less specialized approach (without the small QB factor) might have gotten us straight at the 3 interior OL spots.
  6. Tepper, 7 years of mostly incredible incompetence. I mean, even the PJ to DJ that was so great, did the black cat.
  7. Dalton is for sure ginger. Young is apparently the strawberry.
  8. Yes and people seemed to overlook that in April or whenever it all came to a head.
  9. Man, how could I have forgotten about Point Guard. Triple doubles here we come!
  10. I agree about Bozeman as far as why was there a need to push him out? Number one, I know he had a bad year, I saw it. I will note that I predicted possible struggles for him because his wife had a baby and it was gonna tax him a lot. Missed a lot of sleep. Knew that was going to really be a challenge. Then you add a guard clusterfug to his right and especially to his left. Okay, crucify him if you must, but spare the little QB. That is what fans spent a lot of time doing. So now, he is dead cap who the hell is the backup? You make someone beat him out. When they do, you have your backup. So I don’t think we really have the whole story. He and his wife were like poster family, with all the team website trimmings. That was fuging weird, thinking back on it., That Hurst deal, big screw job. I think some kind of hardball was in order there, make him retire or whatever you gotta do to not take that $ hit.
  11. You know what? No poo. Rhule had what, 7 years on his deal? And did not gut and remake the team in his image? or whatever... But he totally had the mandate to do it to it. Scared probably. edit: and the Burns stuff, I thought everyone knew he was soft against the run and all about the sack glory. But you can’t escape attack speaking truth when some people’s fanhood is their compass.
  12. I saw someone say they did it last week too. That doesn’t answer your question though.
  13. Yeah. Jake was UDFA I am sure everyone remembers. They should have kept NFL farm leagues going.
  14. I mean, talk about ass backwards ways of doing things, DJ Moore is the classic example of WTF were you thinking? edit: And later, Tepper told us the thinking: Bryce Young means you don’t need blah blah blah
  15. Thank you. He could have said that. I mean how does the depth chart help to differentiate positions? I guess if they want G/T out of a guy he gets a specialist for each. Probably good.
  16. What was the stuff about 3 OL coaches and depth chart groupings? Specific player grouping. What does that mean?
  17. Sorry man I figured maybe you would like to hunt it down. I didn’t mean to insult the Legend.
  18. That is why I could never see Reich endorsing the pick. That was the thing that I could never be sold on (except by him in private), and I mark the dysfunction as starting right there.
  19. Basically, it boils down to life isn’t fair and wtf can you do about it. It was the ammo people needed, and he was a long shot. I really hated it for him. edit: salt in the wound was it was his secondary falling short. And they suffered from lacking his full attention, I think. Had to have an effect. And Al Holcomb was supposed to handle adjusting that also. oh, and the local roots thing. Yep he did but he meddled like hell with that too.
  20. Better sense to use the Lewis money and put it into C and another G maybe? who was out there? We know the (IMO erroneous) Brees analogy that people make with Young. We know what they did to help Brees, and we know that that was the idea here. They copied that idea. So, that’s a choice they had to make. We didn’t see probably the second guard coming until it was happening, I don’t remember much debating of it until after. Might be wrong on that. I remember realizing we really needed a C and then came to think they were not going to draft one high. There were priorities because you can’t upgrade everything at once, this is what they tried. Doesn’t look good, but hasn’t been proven to not work yet. So here we are. Also, 17 games where people predict us to win 4 or 5 mostly. 12 or 13 losses. If it takes two or three games (I think more) to get things maybe working a little better, we need to keep that in mind. EDIT: And when people wonder why some are irritated at Young in all of these threads, everything connects to him. There is no degree of separation, as it were. Exhibit number 1 here is the Brees treatment of the OL. What if we didn’t have to think like that when we assemble an OL? Also, I have said I believe a factor in the C thing was they did not want to put a rookie down there because, they don’t want to put more stuff on Bryce. That’s me spitballing though, the other is not.
  21. One thing, if he starts out bench worthy, Dalton probably won’t hold up. So he’ll likely get another chance. Maybe a benching would do him some good. If he is coasting thinking he has it handled, at all, it definitely would. Which, I don’t know what he thinks. (I do agree, basically. Going by last year he was overwhelmed physically)
  22. I saw a headline referring to him as ‘Panthers legend’. I liked him well enough, and he did some good things, but that gave me a chuckle.
