  1. this has been you all day long: If I was this negative about sports, I'd just quit watching.
  2. The fact that we don't have a beat writer worth a damn means that there's probably a lot of stuff that goes on behind the scenes that we fans never catch wind of. Just because the national media doesn't report something doesn't mean we didn't inquire. Who's to say Gettleman didn't reach out to Smith's agent to see what they were looking for and upon hearing, simply said, "Well then, best of luck."
  3. The only thing that really matters in an NFL contract is the guaranteed money. Agents know that. Informed players know that. Informed fans know that. If they offered $20M guaranteed and we were only willing to do say $12M guaranteed, he's signing with them, even if the overall "value" of the contracts were the same.
  4. Back to back playoff berths for the first time in franchise history and you act like we're gutting the joint like the Saints are doing.
  5. Bersin was never our #2 WR. Harvin is a locker room disaster. It'll take locker room leaders like Brady and Belichick to even have a chance of keeping that guy in check. I love Cam and (to a lesser extent) Rivera, but they don't have the type of clout around the league that Brady and Belichick have. Not even close. There's a reason why despite all his talent Harvin can't stick anywhere.
  6. Their franchise QB is 37. Our franchise QB is 25. They know they're likely to go through a bit of a rebuilding period soon, so they're probably a little more willing to take chances. We're trying to build a perennial contender for the next decade. In other words, we're trying to become what the Pats have been under Brady/Belichick while the Pats are trying to hang onto it for another season or two.
  7. Doesn't matter, made it there. Funny how the last two 7-9 teams that made the playoffs both won a playoff game.
  8. I have no idea what we're doing if we don't at least inquire.
  9. Get the preconceived notions out of your head. What we need at WR is SKILL. The fact of the matter is that whether you're talking speed WR, possession WR, whatever, we only had one starting caliber WR last year and that was KB. Cotchery was the only other WR we had who would've even made many other NFL rosters and he would've been a #4, maybe a #3 on those rosters. There's a reason why no one else wanted him. He's just done. Some of y'all are acting like all "possession receivers" are as slow as Jerricho Cotchery. That's not accurate at all. Put KB, Stevie Johnson, and Olsen out there with Ginn in the slot streaking down field to open up the underneath. Our offense would look MUCH different than it did last year.
  10. What I'm saying is that Stevie Johnson is the more proven WR. Three straight 1000 yard seasons while Buffalo's #1 target. Smith has one 1000 yard season and Flacco pretty much forgot he existed once he got an over the hill Smitty to play with. That should tell you something.
  11. People forget what a beast Stevie Johnson was in Buffalo. He's not the type of burner that Torrey Smith is, but he's a better WR. I hope we're all over him when/if his release becomes official.
  12. They tried to do the same thing with Stevie Johnson. Kaepernick's downfield accuracy sucks balls. When you're constantly scrambling for WR talent, it's probably time to look at the guy throwing the ball. We're going WR in one of the first three rounds.
  13. 49ers would've been better off paying Gore and Iupati that money. Maybe we can get Smith on the cheap in a year or two after Colin "One Read and Bolt" Kaepernick destroys his market value just like he did Stevie Johnson's.
  14. I wanted Torrey Smith, but HELL NO @ that poo!
  15. No one, but honestly, that 2nd round pick they acquired is probably more valuable in a trade than Foles was. Bradford is only signed through this season. After thinking about it, IMO this trade means that it's MORE likely that Chip plans on going all in on an effort to get Mariota.
  16. If this is true, the Saints have just thrown in the towel. Full on rebuilding mode.
  17. Craziest offseason ever. Dumb trade for the Eagles though. Bradford just cannot stay healthy. Meanwhile, they've given up lots of the trade bait they could've used to move up for Mariota.
  18. Glad to see Graham out of the division, but holy poo Seattle is gonna be tough.
  19. Wow. Not a smart move. Not a smart move at all. I know they're deep in cap hell, but Graham is an elite weapon.
  20. Nor do we. I think we're going to try to utilize him in the same role that we did in 2013.
  21. Smart move. Peyton Manning vs. Jay Cutler? No contest. With Julius Thomas gone, that position is wide open for the taking.
  22. Ideally we could use speed, but what we NEED is a better #2 WR. At least we have Ginn back in the fold to add some speed. He was a good field stretcher for us in '13.
  23. Yeah, that's what a I thought. I put it in the cart and it looked like an auto-renew type thing and that's why I didn't go through with it.
  24. Torrey Smith was #1 on my list, but I imagine we got priced out of that one pretty quick if we were even in the running at all. Others included: Cecil Shorts Eddie Royal Michael Crabtree Denarius Moore Hakeem Nicks Who knows, maybe one or more of those names will be in the dumpster when we dive in. I'm not even certain that some of those names would provide a definite upgrade at #2 WR, but they'd at least provide some competition.
