It's almost like you didn't watch the Panthers play this year. Stop watching the results of college plays/games and thinking it directly translates to the NFL because it worked in college. Oh yay! Mac Jones just completed a 50 yard pass for a TD! He's amazing! Nevermind that the WR had the CB beat by ten yards but nearly had to come to complete stop allowing him to nearly catch up then simply out-motored the physically out-matched CB to the endzone. -

Watch his passes vs. Burrow's and stop being emotional. Burrows hit dudes in stride. With Jones, those receivers are generally having to slow down and/or make other adjustments. That gives NFL DBs time to recover. There aren't going to be many times where you're open by ten yards in the NFL like those Bama WRs were. -

Jones is throwing more often than not to dudes that are wide open. The downfield throws usually aren't that great. They basically look like Teddy's, NFL DBs just have a lot better recovery ability than college DBs. -

He's basically a less athletic Teddy but has the guts to throw the ball more than ten yards down the field. -

Goff and Cousins are the comparisons I keep coming back to as well, but I honestly think both are still considerably more athletic than Jones. Jones is basically a pure pocket passer with a below average arm. That doesn't seem like the makings of a starting NFL QB to me. -

I think we're rapidly approaching the point where there's not many places Watson would straight up say "no" to. I think he REALLY wants out of Houston. -

I think we have some interesting pieces to offer, it's just a question of whether or not you'd want to send say three 1sts and Burns + Chinn to Houston for Watson. I'd LOVE to have Watson but IMO that price is just too steep. The big knock on any package we could offer is that it wouldn't provide a clear path to another franchise QB for Houston. #8 is probably too low. -

What? That seems very contradictory. -

I thought the basis of your reasoning was that the Panthers screwed over his idol Cam Newton? That seems to be thoroughly debunked at this point. I mean, he probably still doesn't end up here because the Jets and Dolphins are both in a far better situation to trade for him but your reasoning seems to be completely out the window at this point. -

I'd argue that Rosen had more talent, he was just an entitled brat. Tua seems like a great dude who may have been ruined by a devastating injury. -

Understand the concept of a sunk cost. With the new rookie salary scale, you're no longer hamstringing yourself with an outrageous contract on a top pick. I'm sure the Cardinals don't regret for a moment bailing on the previous year's #10 overall pick in Josh Rosen to take Kyler Murray #1 the following year. -

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if there wasn't some wildly differing opinions within the Dolphins' organization on what they should do with Tua. I could definitely see reason for a contingent of folks who want to keep and develop Tua and I could definitely see reason for a contingent of folks ready to cut bait and move on. -
I still hope we can get Moton signed long-term this off-season. Applying the franchise tag doesn't at all mean that won't happen.

PFT: Seahawks want three #1 as starting point for Wilson trade.
LinvilleGorge replied to SCO96's topic in Carolina Panthers
This. What I'm hoping to get out of this is for Wilson to go to the Jets or Dolphins and take one of them out of the Watson race. Let the other one fall in love with Zach Wilson and Watson is OURS!!! *evil laugh* Yeah, it's probably a pipedream but whatever. Don't spoil my fun. -

I doubt it. They would almost certainly get that or equivalent value. -

Turning the page on Bridgewater definitely wouldn't be a step backward. -
Yeah, honestly this isn't great news for us. I mean, it's completely expected since Miami was a pretty good team with shoddy QB play last year and NY is reportedly Watson's preferred destination, but both of those teams have far better trade bait to offer than we do.
-
For some reason we thought he could be more than he's shown throughout his career. Everyone talks about his stint with the Saints last year but minus that 4 TD game against the Bucs' worst in the league pass D he pretty much looked like he's always looked.

Peter King on Panthers and Deshaun Watson
LinvilleGorge replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Nothing. I'm just saying they have Tua to offer and they have the #3 overall pick guaranteeing at worst the 3rd QB off the board this year. They simply have more and better options to offer than we do. -
If we don't get a QB this off-season it's Howell or bust next year.
-
I hope not.

Wilson alone doesn't make us a contender. We'd still need to build an OL and a secondary. By the time we do that Wilson could be on the decline. -

I can't do that for a 32 year old. Sure, some QBs play very well into their late 30s and a rare few play well into their early 40s, but eh...
