  1. We're praying Horn can stay healthy. He's been elite when on the field. That's a lot different than praying Icky learns how to pass protect.
  2. Seriously. We've drafted a total of three good WRs. Smitty, Moose, and Moore. That's the whole list.
  3. Yeah, Icky still has a long way to go as a pass protector before I'll be on board with him being the long-term solution (meaning a gob of salary cap tied up) at LT. For sure pick up his 5th year option to buy us toke but I'm not even having discussions about a long-term contract.
  4. I just see more opportunity for specialization with a position like WR where you're playing more bodies where with positions like safety and OT that guy is generally going to play most of not all snaps barring an injury.
  5. Do you want to pay him elite LT money to hope he keeps developing? I'm for picking up his 5th year option but I'm very much waiting and see on talking about offering that long-term franchise LT contract.
  6. I was thinking more a long the lines of what we were talking about about with Icky - run blocking vs. pass blocking for a LT. Yeah, the elite guys are really good at both but if you're having to pick, definitely choose pass blocking over run blocking st that position.
  7. Yeah, outside of the elite guys you kinda have to pick and choose. Pick coverage when it comes to DBs.
  8. Yeah, the enforcer safety should have likely gone the way of the fullback with the new rules and the modern pass happy NFL offense. Just like the RB who was too slow or the TE who was too small used to play FB, now that guy is pretty much just not in the NFL aside from a few select individuals in select systems. Same thing with the undersized LB at safety. That guy probably just shouldn't be in the modern NFL unless as a backup and he's also an elite STer.
  9. Moehrig was such a a head scratching signing. He's a 1980s safety in the 2020s. The era of the undersized LB At safety should be over with the possible exception of the SS in a cover 3 scheme but in that situation you should probably be looking at that position as a spot to save cap space not burn through it.
  10. Agreed. I'd love to find one in the draft but I think it might end up being a battle between a vet off the waiver wire and Richardson. What I definitely DON'T want to do is simply draft a safety out of desperation like when Gettleman spam drafted CBs after knee jerk yanking the tag off of Norman.
  11. When you're 65th in pass blocking proficiency you're aren't that close. It's a pass blocking position. You'll take "good enough" run blocking of the guy is a legit good pass blocker. But the reverse means that guy probably shouldn't be playing LT. This was the concern about him going into the draft - that he was a much better run blocker than pass blocker but that he had the physical tools to develop as a pass blocker.
  12. I don't love this safety class. It won't surprise me if we don't see value there. We shouldn't reach just because we have a need this year. A big part of our failure to ever put together consecutive winning seasons is constantly flailing to find bandaid solutions vs. actually focusing on building the core of a roster. I'm a firm believer in getting your bandaid solutions in low to mid-level FA and using the draft to try to build the majority of your core roster. Basically, using free agent for the pressing current needs and thinking longer term with the draft.
  13. For this season we look good on paper. But the future is very murky.
  14. 65th in pass blocking rate is the issue. This isn't 1985 anymore. You're not paying LTs to be road grading run blockers. He's above average for a starting LT as a run blocker. He's well below average for a starting LT as a pass blocker. The issue is that you're paying LTs primarily to be pass protectors.
  15. Possibly. With the rumors swirling about Moton it's easy to convince yourself that it's possible that OT is a LOT higher on our list of needs than would appear at a glance. The other distinct possibility is that we feel like Icky isn't putting in the work and we want to light a fire under his ass. If it's the latter, I would expect us to ultimately pick up his option but likely not be super aggressive to sign him to a huge extension. In which case, again OT would be a lot higher on our list than most would assume. The smoke is saying OT is a lot higher on our list than most of us think IMO.
  16. I would be SHOCKED if we got that type of offer for #8. Keep in mind, per the (admittedly imperfect) draft pick value chart, #1 is worth over double #8 (3000 vs. 1400). It is very much an apples vs. oranges comparison.
  17. Off season after off season of bandaid duct tape patchworked together rosters just trying to salvage this season after this season has created an organization that has never put together consecutive winning seasons in it's three decades of existence.
  18. Yeah, I think there are guys that we feel comfortable picking but we'd prefer to slide back and get an extra pick or two.
  19. Poor salesmanship on that one. "Yeah, we got some calls." and refuse to elaborate on that would've been the right way to field that one.
  20. I sure wish we'd had that in SB50...
  21. If we're not sold on Icky long-term and Moton is going into the final year of his contract and possibly has career shortening knee issues going on, it's very possibly that OT could be a LOT higher on our needs list than fans would think.

  23. No we didn't. Those guys tested the free agency waters and couldn't find anything better. They saw the market.
  24. Players don't take team friendly deals to stay in dumpster fire organizations. At 31 this will be his last shot to get one last payday and possibly his last shot to try to compete for a ring of that's what he wants. He generally fits the description of a guy who would demand a trade more than he fits the description of a guy open to take a team friendly deal with his current team.
  25. If we think the BPA is an OT and there's no compelling offers to trade down I'm open to it. You gotta remember Moron is going into the last year of his contract and you're either going to have to back up the Brinks truck to pay a guy on the wrong side of 30 or you're going to have to let him walk for a comp pick... or you trade him.
