Panthers interested in bringing back Tre Boston?
LinvilleGorge replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Everyone available this time of year either sucks, has serious injury issues, or serious off field issues. I don't think Tre is hurt and I don't think he's ever been a concern off the field, so... -
Oh, feel free to challenge my opinions. I've been wrong before and I'll be wrong again in the future. That guy's entire shtick is not voicing an opinion and just bashing anyone who has anything other than a straight homer line opinion.
-
Bingo. Our reputation around the league is what it is for a reason. It will stay that way until we change who we are as a franchise in terms of consistent success.
-
I think Ryan is about average. I'd put Cousins below and Baker above. I mean, Mayfield did throw the longest pass ever thrown in an NFL game this past season. Your "average" guy isn't doing that.
-
I can't see the Allen comparison. Allen is significantly more athletic and has a significantly better arm. Allen's big knock coming out of college was accuracy and he's greatly improved in that department. Dude has a cannon.

We know, man. They're know more about football than us. Every move they make is well founded. Everyone who disagrees with that is a moron. Meanwhile, somehow the Panthers have an overall losing record. That losing record has this far gotten worse under Tepper. Marty Hurney without a doubt knew WAY more than any of us about GMing an NFL football team, how the draft prospect evaluation process goes, how negotiating contracts goes, etc. That absolutely didn't get in his way of failing to intelligently implement any of that knowledge. My point is that if all you want to do is parrot that line and not actually take place in any discussion differing from that line, what is your point in being here? Serious question.

I think you have to either oversell his talent or undersell the concerns between the ears to be seriously excited about his prospects. I hope he proves me wrong, but I think the most likely outcome is that this forum is dominated by 2022 QB prospect discussion before the first frost at BOA.

Teddy actually surprised me with his ability to throw darts on the rare occasion he'd actually let it rip. He just very rarely actually did that.
-
This is about on par with the "Sam Darnold is basically a rookie" stance.
-
LOL of that's actually how you interpreted that.
-
His physical tools are fairly run of the mill for a starting QB. Not a minus, but there aren't any real special traits either. That's an upgrade from Teddy's below average traits, but a lot of Panthers fans have seemingly convinced themselves that Darnold is a Rodgers type talent that has been squandered in NY. I just don't think that's at all accurate.
-
Teddy's arm was significantly better than I anticipated. Honestly, of Teddy had the guts he could be a Cousins/Goff level QB. He has about that level of arm. He just doesn't have the guts to make the throws. And no, you completely missed my point here. Meanwhile, I never questioned Darnold's arm. I question Darnold between the ears.
-
You know who had the strongest arm at the Combine in 2019? Will Grier. Not just the highest velocity that year, but velocity numbers that would hold their own in any draft class. https://www.ourlads.com/story/default/Quarterback-Ball-Velocity-at-NFL-Combine-2008-2017/10243/dh/ Darnold didn't throw at the Combine.

Huddlers: Sam Darnold has all the physical talent to be a franchise QB! His talent is worth the gamble! *shows Darnold's average at best athleticism testing* Huddlers: LOL! Physical talent isn't everything! Le sigh...

According to some other sites on the interweb, those pool boys are too busy servicing your wife to bother with the pool.

2000 Draft Class - It can always be worse:

'09 was definitely horrific. -

Yep. Our draft history has been incredibly spotty. Our spendy FA history has arguably been even worse. Poor roster management has definitely been the biggest thing holding us back as a franchise. Fox and Rivera weren't great, but they both also showed the ability to win when provided with the sporadic quality roster. -

Landing a franchise QB by itself easily puts it over 2000 where our best pick was a decent FS who wasn't signed to a second contract. That's an utterly atrocious draft. -
He basically said that they weren't trying to make it easy on the QBs. They want it to be hard in practice. They're looking for "good" days, not "great" days. It's always the conundrum of camp. If one unit/player is looking really good, is it because that unit is really good or is it because the opposing unit/player sucks?
-
I think Little has to have a tremendous camp to have any shot at the roster. The only way he ends up ahead of Erving is if he gets injured. Erving is just better. If Little doesn't have a tremendous camp, we'd probably be rather go dumpster diving through other teams' cuts than have Little remain on the roster. His draft status with a prior regime has carried him as far as it's going to get him.

Rhule see’s Brady Christensen more of a RT or OG than a LT
LinvilleGorge replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Normally I would agree, but given our nearly complete lack of long-term solutions along the OL right now, I can understand this one. We can absolutely end up using him wherever he's best fit. If that's OT, great. If that's OG, well that's fine too. -
Then why are you here? What else is there to talk about right now? Your bullshit of criticizing others for wanting to discuss the team and football in general is getting old.
-
I don't think it has to do with anything regarding philosophy on QB athleticism. I think it has everything to do with not being able to impact that aspect of a player as a coach. You can't coach physical traits. All you can do is prepare a guy to play the best he can with what he has to work with. Darnold isn't a a statue but he isn't a big run threat. He has a big arm but he has a pretty big wind-up as well. If he has sufficient grasp of the offense, might as well throw the kitchen sink at him and try to figure out if he's gonna sink or swim before the live bullets start to fly. See if you can open up the playbook or if you're going to be forced to dial it back.
