Looking ahead to this offseason *Warning* Not for the Weak Stomach

Daily reminder that we gave up 4 total draft picks for Darnold and CJ Henderson. -
Happy Panther's tank thread and projected draft pick

Is it possible that the darnold trade was the worst in franchise history eclipsing even Sean Gilbert? -
My interest in this team is at an all time low
BIGH2001 replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
2001 lost a ton of games at the end of the game. They were more competitive than this group many weeks. Yes it was terrible but at least that team hadn’t spent 60 mil and 3 picks while failing to identify a franchise QB. We also had all our draft picks in 02 and used the first 3 on peppers, deshaun foster and will Witherspoon, all key players on the 03 super bowl team. Thanks to rhule and fitterer we’ve got one pick in rounds 1-3. I see our situation now as objectively worse than 01. -
WFT at least has an identity and a plan to win games. More than I can say for the used car salesman.

Let's look at our 2020 draft again: Round 1, pick 7: Derrick Brown, DT, Auburn - Benched on Sunday, hasn't done anything of note since he's been here Round 2, pick 38: Yetur Gross-Matos, DE, Penn State - Hurt a lot, used as situational run stopper, no pass rush ability Round 2, pick 64: Jeremy Chinn, S, Southern Illinois - The best player from this draft, not used properly by shitty coaching staff Round 4, pick 113: Troy Pride Jr., CB, Notre Dame - out for the year with an injury. The team has since traded over his position and now has 100 CBs. He must not be that great. Round 5, pick 152: Kenny Robinson, CB, West Virginia - irrelevant and non-factor Round 6, pick 184: Bravvion Roy, DL, Baylor - depth player at best, mainly irrelevant. Round 7, pick 221: Stantley Thomas-Oliver III, CB, Florida International - non-factor and irrelevant. The third CB we took in the 2020 draft. Dave Gettleman redux. So out of this draft, we got one good player and a few JAGs/situational players. Wow.

Hey, Tepper, next time hire a grown up coach
BIGH2001 replied to rayzor's topic in Carolina Panthers
Concession revenue, merchandise sales, etc will all suffer. Fan enthusiasm at a historical low. It will definitely send a message even if the seats are technically purchased. -
That would totally explain why they picked up darnold’s option before he ever played a down for us. It has nothing to do with the complete inability of this staff to evaluate players and assemble a competitive roster.

BIGH2001 replied to rayzor's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don’t think he’s guaranteed next year. A couple more games like yesterday and empty seats might force tepper to make a move. I’m not sure that our remaining home games are going to draw anywhere close to the interest from opposing fans that we’ve seen so far. Atlanta has a weak bandwagon base and Tampa fans don’t really travel. The result = lots of silver and blue on TV. -

BIGH2001 replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
This team is more comparable to 01 and 02. Years where we had an ok defense, terrible offense and little hope for the future. However 01 and 02 at least had Smith and Muhammad at WR. This is the most devoid of offensive talent I think we have ever been. -
Now is as good a time as any to fire Rhule.

Matt Rhule: "We have to double down on our approach"
BIGH2001 replied to ENCPantherfan2's topic in Carolina Panthers
It makes sense that he wouldn’t change staff when he knows he might need them at his next college stop. -
Matt Rhule: "We have to double down on our approach"
BIGH2001 replied to ENCPantherfan2's topic in Carolina Panthers
Rhule is about to fug this franchise by grabbing one meaningless win in the last 5 games to ruin our draft pick again. -
LOL had forgotten about the Schiano era Bucs. Like with Rhule, you knew going into the game that one competent NFL coach was about to have a huge advantage on the sidelines.
-
We always knew it was a gamble that could really pay off or blow up in our faces. It’s blowing up in our faces and no amount of “trust the process” platitudes is going to convince the majority of well-educated fans that the team is on the right track.

2022 (3rd year of the rebuild) and beyond...
BIGH2001 replied to musicman's topic in Carolina Panthers
Learning is one thing but this year’s draft was a complete bust in terms of selecting players at positions of need. Free agency wasn’t much better. -

What about the past two offseasons gives you any hope that they will get it right this time? -
We aren’t seeing progress. Are we really supposed to believe that Rhule has some master plan that involves constructing the worst offensive line in the league and bringing in two crappy QBs just to say “gotcha!” right before he goes on a huge run in year 3 and teabags all his detractors? This is the roster that he intentionally assembled. He’s had time to fix the offense and instead has made it worse. The defense is marginally better but still has glaring weaknesses. His top draft pick in the all-defense draft is trending into Vernon Butler territory. The 7 year deal for Rhule is kinda like the 5th year option for Sam. Tepper thought he had found some generational coach and he was gonna show everyone by locking him up long term at a steal. If Rhule had actually lived up to the hype and brought the franchise what his contract suggests, then 9 mil per year is on the average end of great coach’s salary and look we’ve got him locked up for 7 years! Look how smart that move was, I’m such a brilliant foreshadower!! Instead Tepper outsmarted himself and just looks like a dumbass who is as clueless as Rhule. There is no such thing as a long-term rebuild in the NFL.

We were building with a franchise QB and would make the playoffs the following year. In 2012 we went 5-1 down the stretch. Rhule has 5 games left. If we got 4-1 then I might change my mind. But what are the odds of that? He’s hopelessly fuged this roster and there’s no franchise guy who can turn it around. 2012 and this year are not remotely the same situation. I’d argue this year is more akin to 2001 or 2010 where there are some pieces but not nearly enough holes filled to be competitive. If you want to be really optimistic you could compare this year to 02 and pray for a miracle pickup to become the next Delhomme and Steven Davis combo.

Matt Rhule 3rd year success (Does history repeat itself?)
BIGH2001 replied to Leotiger's topic in Carolina Panthers
Notice the 4 and 6 game improvements in year two. That ain’t happening here.
