some of us called that one--since Atlanta picks #8, that means that it is unlikely they will attempt to leapfrog us for a QB in the draft---it would have cost them a third and fourth rounder to do so, fwiw.
-
If we got him, he'd be on a 1-year contract ($18.8m) and we could let him go if he sucked. We would then be drafting a QB in the 2023 draft. If we draft Pickett and he sucks, we are on the hook for 4 years. So there is an upside to Mayfield. He has played well when not injured and he is effective when he has time. I am not sure about his maturity and leadership---but he comes off like a prick to me, and that is problematic if you are a QB.

Is it legal to let some air out of these things if you don't play for the Patriots?

They wanted to see WHERE he grips the ball. Some grip with the pinky in the middle of the laces, some with the pinky more toward the back of the ball. From what I can tell, Pickett was grabbing the back of the ball, something that pleased the Panthers. (I know very little about this, based on my friends in college who were QBs---just speculation)

I even wondered if they waited to seal the deal with a LT until after the Pickett pro day-- A few notes (before I read the next 10 pages of this thread): Fitterer, Morgan, Rhule, Sean---the Panthers had everyone there. Fitterer was talking to Pickett about his ball grip/hand size. like checking a horse's teeth. Rhule talking to Pickett and spent time with his coach If the Panthers are not announcing that they are interested in Pickett---then I am not a Huddler. I mean, is there any team in the league who will doubt who we are going to draft after today's showing?

I think he said, I hurt my Baaaaack." Cam was great, but misused. Sad because he could have been great for much longer.

Matty Water to the Colts for a 3rd rounder.

Mariota to Falcons would nearly guarantee Pickett to Panthers. -
We are flying our colors in Pittsburgh today...fully represented

Falcons burned a bridge. Are trying to trade Matty Water.
MHS831 replied to NCTHFL0567's topic in Carolina Panthers
PFT suggests that Matty agreed to extend the contract bonus deadline IF the Falcons tried to trade him--I am not sure that makes sense, because they don't have to try hard. Still, I have to think that the Colts might be interested OR they simply would like to get out of a $50m deal. -
You want the ball in CMC's hands. If giving it to him in open space saves his body more than giving it to him running through a six person gauntlet (Between the C gaps) I am all for it. CMC has EXCEPTIONAL hands and might be out of position at RB.

I am sure the hands play a part in it--so does the OL, the play calling etc. But the 38 fumbles over 4 years is a concern.

Crazy---but it seems to happen every year, so we shall see. I ask this question: What is the difference between Pickett/Willis and Howell? It is possible that you could trade back, grab an edge rusher and get a QB in the first round. People like Pickett because Pitt came together as an offense in 2021, and Pickett had a good year. Put Pickett under center at UNC in 2021, and does he do better than Howell? Howell had a good 2020, so we definitely see the impact of good supporting cast. I dunno. I just think that Howell + a player in the draft is a better option than Pickett at #6. I am really torn.

I am like this: Our choices in free agency are slim. The best (arguably) is having shoulder surgery and will be out indefinitely. Our best trade scenario involves a backup that cannot beat out Jalen Hurts. Our options at QB in the draft are as bad as they have been in years. So what do you do? I say you have to draft a QB. If he bombs, he becomes your 2023 backup. If he succeeds, win. I think Minshew has some potential when he has a pocket, so if we take Minshew, draft the T.

Ridder played fewer games and had 36 fumbles. His hand size is 10". Burrow has 9" hands and fumbled once in over 500 snaps. Source: https://sportsnaut.com/pitt-qb-kenny-picketts-small-hands-could-make-waves-with-scouts/

I think 2017 was Cam's last good run. Unfortunately, he was more fragile than he appeared, and RR learned that his QB is not also a FB.

I think we will draft TE Krull from Pitt on day 3 of the draft because I will assume they have watched a lot of Pickett film--
