I get what you're saying and while our end goals are obviously the same, we have differing philosophies as to how to get there.

But it's an investment that will be here for a few years, versus a Patrick Kane-type arrangement which will also cost a ton, and it's a one-shot deal. I have no problem giving up something as long as the ROI is over the course of 3-5 years and not a short term hopeful fix.

And, in Los Angeles....

I'm not there on these short term rentals. There are already a couple on the roster, and it'll be enough trying to replace them in the off-season without adding a few more to the mix. The Canes success for the past few years is predicated on building a team of players who will bring consistency and a winning mentality. What the Canes have accomplished in that regard in recent years is nothing short of phenomenal. You had a team languishing in sub-mediocrity, a fan base who had given up and attendance sucked. Enter Tom Dundon and Don Waddell, and here we are. Not only did they bring a formula to win, they brought the fans back and they built a team of exciting, young players eager to play for RBA and that, my friends, is the culture and the identity of this team. Look, I loved the Blackhawks when they had their run. Patrick Kane may be the best American born hockey player ever, and Toews is no slouch either. But giving up 2 draft picks and Drury goes against everything the team was built on. It's fugging hard to win a Cup. And if it doesn't happen with Kane and Toews, where is the team then? Without 2 draft picks and Drury- essentially 3 players. I'd much rather find a Bo Horvat, who would not only fill the Patches void, but also likely remain with the team with an extension. There is no shortage of players who want to come here and play for RBA. The key is just finding the right guy who fits the chemistry.

Stepan centering the 4th line tonight.
-
Cheaper than Pacioretty. And Don W signed Burns (38), Statsny (37) and Pacioretty (34).
-
Am I a bad fan because I trust the blue line to score and short-handed goals more than the PP? Anyway, gonna miss most, if not all the game tonight due to an obligatory social engagement with the wife's job. On a positive note, the Canes are wearing white tonite and the event I'm being dragged to, kicking and screaming, is an all-white wine dinner, so we'll be in white as well.

Statsny's early season performance was lackluster, at best, playing on the 4th line. KK has been the same centering the 2nd line. Look what's happened since RBA swapped them- Statsny is playing much better with a couple net front goals on the 2nd line and KK looks better with the 4th line. He's getting looks and is more inclined to take a shot now. Now, if KK makes some major strides this season, he could keep himself on the roster next season, but he's pretty overpaid for a 4th line center. Keep in mind he does have the ability to play the 2nd as well. Regardless, if Horvat came to Raleigh, I would anticipate an extension to keep him around after the end of the year if everything works out. The 4 centers, assuming Staal doesn't retire: Aho, Horvat, Staal, KK

Tarasenko is a younger version of Pacioretty, by a couple years is all. But he's on IR as well with a 4-week hand injury from Jan 2. He does have 29 points in the 34 games he's played. He's also a UFA after this season. I'd be interested if the Canes could land him with a prospect and a reasonable price. Again, I don't think he's a $7.5M player, but... Horvat has 49 points in 45 games and is 4 years younger than Tarasenko. He's currently playing out a $5.5M contract and is also a UFA at the end of the year. He could be a long term fix at the center position for the Canes on the 2nd line replacing Paul Statsny, who, at 37, will be gone after the season. And who knows how much longer Jordo is going to play?

Pacioretty Placed On IR With Torn Achilles

Fug. Just fug. -
I re-watched the game on BSSO this afternoon and Max got his skate blade caught in a rut right on the goal line just a few feet from the net. His right foot was turned ever so slightly and his skate blade was all on the ice. Typically, an achilles injury occurs when the foot is coming up as the trailing leg while running or skating. It really looked like a twisted ankle to me, with tendon or ligament damage a possibility. The few achilles injuries I've seen didn't look like that. Maybe just wishful thinking on my part, but..

Before the Canes can do anything, they need to free up some cap space beyond the current $3.1M they have. I don't think anything will be in the works until Max's injury is thoroughly diagnosed. If he goes on LTIR and/or is done for the season, the additional space may precipitate a move. I'd certainly entertain any move that would include Bo Horvat, but not give up the farm for him.

Per Walt Ruff, the MRI on Max's injury has been delayed until Monday to allow things to settle a bit. The Canes skated this morning, obviously without Max, and Jacob Slavin was also absent. Should be noted that Slavin did not play the last few minutes of last night's game. Hopefully, just some rest for him as much ice time as he gets. 20230119_214248.mp4 20230119_214248.mp4 20230119_214248.mp4 20230119_214248.mp4

After joining up with Stephen Stills and forming CSN, their first live performance together was Woodstock. How's that for breaking onto the music scene. You guys all know how old I am- growing up and spending the first 38 years of my life there, this music was everything to me. Losing him and Jeff Beck in the last couple weeks only serves to remind us of our mortality. I'll be spinning a bunch of my vinyl today. -
Where were you sitting tonite? The couple next to us got the fan tunnel tonite also. 1st intermission.

Stastny has played much better with the 2nd line than he did with the 4th. And I think KK is getting more looks to shoot on the 4th. In my opinion, a good move, although for what KK's salary is, playing the 4th line is a little steep. I like KK, but he's not a $4.8M center.

The lines: Forwards: Pacioretty - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - Stastny - Necas Martinook - Staal - Fast Teravainen - Kotkaniemi - Noesen Defense: Slavin - Burns Skjei - Pesce de Haan - Chatfield Starting Goalie: Andersen

Not my cup of tea, but Gatlinburg? Also heard the Great Wolf Lodge or something near Charlotte was good for kids. Ocean City, Maryland? Haven't.been there in 30 years... smaller scale Myrtle?

When are you headed over?

Can't you negotiate orders with your detailer? When I was in we called our rating (MOS) detailer to see what he had available and we could make a choice or take a chance & wait a few weeks. This started about 6 months before your rotation date. I don't think I ever got sent anywhere I didn't want to go. That is, until I hit my 19 year mark and they told me I had to go to DC. I kept asking them for another ship, but they were clear that wasn't an option. So I decided to retire on 20.

We're in 216 tonight. Will be wearing all superstitious winning gear. And we'll be there early enough to tailgate for a bit. Need Max & Jordo back tonight, otherwise I think we're in for a long night.

I made a stupid mistake trying to sell this house

So, a couple moving parts here. North Carolina: First of all, a certified mold inspector will come out and inspect and take samples of anything suspicious he/she finds. Those samples are sent to a lab. I used CEI/Eurofins in Cary. They will provide a detailed analysis of each sample, telling you of the concentration as well as whether or not it's active or dead. Then, and only then, upon the decision of the homeowner, does a remediation contractor come into play. Keep in mind, the inspectors, the lab and the remediation companies all have state licenses, which are easily verified through both your local county health department and the state Department of Insurance. -
Per Kevin Weeks, Kochetkov Is Headed Back To Chicago

Keep in mind he's a $7M UFA rental. Although he's a strong veteran presence, a very good team player and a stand-up guy, the reality is the Canes could have moved for a couple good UFA forwards at the same price they paid for 1. I'm not worried about the team going forward- they'll win games and get into the playoffs. But iffy goal-tending and a bottom dwelling PP will send them home after the first round. -

I have 2 concerns at this point in the season- the first being Andersen's health and can we keep 2 healthy goalies playing at a higher level than what we've seen thus far. Although Andersen has looked good in his first 2 games back, why do I think it's only a matter of time before he goes down again. My second concern is the PP. Absolutely atrocious. No need to say anything more there.
